Ryan Seacrest called Blake Lewis and Lakisha Jones to the center of the stage. Seacrest told them that one of them would work with Diana Ross next week and the other had made it into the top twelve. As they both looked puzzled, Seacrest clarified that they had both made it to the top twelve.
The next contestant that Ryan Seacrest called to center stage was Chris Sligh. Seacrest asked Chris if he thought he had made it to the top twelve, and Chris replied "For fear of looking stupid, I'll say I hope." After a commercial break, Seacrest revealed that Chris Sligh's hopes had been fulfilled and he was in the top twelve.
After Chris Sligh, Ryan Seacrest called Jordin Sparks to center stage and told her that America was in love with her and she had made it to top twelve. Phil Stacey was next, and he also got the news that he was moving on in the competition. After Phil Stacey, Seacrest called out Jared Cotter and told him that the journey was ending for him tonight. Jared Cotter gave one last performance of "If You Really Love Me."
After the American Idol challenge, Ryan Seacrest called Melinda Doolittle and Brandon Rogers to center stage. He revealed that both of these former backup singers had made the top twelve. Next up were Chris Richardson and Gina Glocksen, both who also made the top twelve.
American Idol 4 winner Carrie Underwood made a special guest appearance and sang her hit song "Wasted." After Carrie's performance, Ryan Seacrest called Antonella Barba and Stephanie Edwards to center stage. Seacrest told Antonella that the journey ended for her tonight and told Stephanie Edwards that she had made the top twelve. Seacrest said "Anontella, ladies and gentleman. Antonella Barba who has probably grown up a lot on American Idol." Antonella Barba gave one last performance of "Put Your Records On."
Next, Ryan Seacrest called Haley Scarnato and Sabrina Sloan to center stage. Seacrest told Haley Scarnato that she had made it into the top twelve and told Sabrina Sloan that she was leaving tonight. Randy Jackson said "Sabrina should be in that top twelve, dog. She definitely put it down. America got that one wrong I think." Sabrina Sloan gave one last performance of "Don't Let Go."
Ryan Seacrest announced a new special event program called "Idol Gives Back" that would help raise money for children in Africa and in America. Clips were shown of Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell visiting Africa and also of the devastation caused by hurricanes in Louisiana. Seacrest revealed that Quincy Jones had written a special song and that Borat would be making a special guest appearance on "Idol Gives Back."
After announcing the event show, Seacrest called Sanjaya Malakar and Sundance Head to center stage. Seacrest revealed that Sundance Head had not made the top twelve and that Sanjaya Malakar was the final members of the top twelve. Paula Abdul said "I'm speechless. I am. This is a singing competition, and Sundance you've been one of our finest." Sundance Head gave one last performance of "Jeremy."
