The night overall wasn't great, I think it's mainly because the songs are fun but not very hard to perform. Most of the contestants weren't able to display theit vocal range.

Melinda - Great performance, she let her vocals show, she did seem a little old. But still the best performance of the night.

LaKisha - She looked very beautiful this night. When she sang with Jennifer Lopez, it was obvious she's a much better singer. I didn't really like the performance, the song didn't let her show her amazing vocals.

Chris - His voice is really starting to annoy me, he can't sing without doing it through the nose. The original is much better.

Haley - Again with the legs, girl give it a rest! It's a singing competition. She was horrible as usual, went off key many times, she was screaming the high notes. I so glad she's gone!

Phil - The original was better, but a nice solid performance from him. He was a little bit boring, but not bad overall.

Jordin - She looked beautiful, the beginning of the song was a little bit boring and slow, but towards the end she went for the high notes, and really let her vocals show.

Blake - Nice performance, great vocals. He did a very good performance.

Sanjaya - Anyone can sing like that! It was very boring, he didn't reach for any high notes. Horrible!moreless
  • j lo helps the top 8 and brings some shocking surprises where the great singers have an off night where sanjaya still sucks!!!

    9.1
    "Superb"
American Idol is going down hill and is scaring me that it is all coming to an end because if sanjaya wins i will NEVER watch the show again because it means that it isnt serious any more and that it has turned into a giant joke where no one cares anymore. Every one that votes for sanjaya needs to have their head examined as soon as possible. Simon C. needs to tell the truth to sanjaya like he does with all of the other contestants and tell him that he needs to go home because him keeping his mouth shut is not working at allmoreless
  • This week was all about fun, and fun they had. Perfect: Melinda Doolittle Superb: LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson Great: Jordin Sparks Good: Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey Fair: Sanjaya Malakar Medmoreless

    "Great"
It's Latin week and our top 8 contestants are mentored by singer, model and actress, Jennifer Lopez.

Melinda was up first, she sang "Sway" by Dean Martin. I'm happy that Melinda did not chose a ballad for tonight, and I'm also happy that she left her comfort zone and did the whole sexy diva thing. Her performance was really great. It wasn't one of those vocally focused performances, but it was one of those fun and different performances, which in my opinion, was great because we all know very well that Melinda can sing. 10/10.

Following Melinda after the commercial break was fellow diva, LaKisha. Like Melinda, LaKisha decided to go out of her comfort zone. Actually, "going out of her comfort zone" is an understatement. LaKisha decided to do a very upbeat song with a lot of body movement. The song was "Conga" by Gloria Estefan. One thing I admire about her and her performance was that she decided to take the risk. When I heard she was going to sing this, I couldn't 100% imagine what it was going to be like, but I had the idea that she was going to pull it off like she always does. 9/10.

Chris Richardson was up next doing "Smooth" by Santana & Rob Thomas. The performance was really great. This was an excellent song choice by Chris in my opinion. It was very upbeat, it suited his style well. When Jennifer Lopez told him his voice was too low during the video, she was without a doubt correct. I couldn't imagine how bad Chris' performance would have been if he decided to go for a low voice on a song like "Smooth." It was a really smooth performance by Chris, pun intended. 9/10.

Haley Scarnato a.k.a. agent legs sang "Turn the Beat Around" by Vicki Sue Robinson/Gloria Estefan. As usual, Haley makes it a PG-13 show with her mini skirt. Her voice was OK, but I still enjoy her upbeat singing and her movement on the stage. It wasn't a memorable performance, but hey, what can Haley really give us at this point of the competition besides her legs? 7/10.

Phil came right after Haley singing "Maria Maria" by Santana & The Product G&B. It was a really great song choice for Phil tonight. One problem I had with it was that his voice was cracking all around the song. Actually, that was my one and only problem. That aside it was a good performance. He didn't exactly butcher the song, but with all the cracking, you have to wonder if Phil's singing career is already over before it even started. 7/10.

Jordin sang "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" by Gloria Estefan. This was another upbeat performance for the night. It was probably my least favorite Jordin performance. The vocals were still great and she still had the spark, don't get me wrong, but it just couldn't compare to all the other superb Jordin performances. The song choice wasn't the best, but it was OK. She really was the least impressive diva of the night. 8/10.

Blake Lewis was next doing "I Need to Know" by Jennifer Lopez's husband, Marc Anthony. J. Lo's tips have never been more useful. Blake gave a very great and awesome performance tonight. When I knew it was going to be Latin week, I just knew for sure that Blake was going to be one of the best for the night. Great song choice, great stage presence, and most of all great performance. 9/10.

Last performer of the night was Sanjaya. He sang "Bsame Mucho" by Consuelo Velzquez. At first I really didn't enjoy it, but when I closed my eyes and just listened to his vocals it wasn't so bad. There were quiet a few pitch problems that I noticed with my eyes closed, but it was surely better than any other past performance Sanjaya has done. This was Sanjaya's best performance so far in the competition. 6/10.

    Overall:
    Perfect: Melinda Doolittle
Superb: LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson
    Great: Jordin Sparks
Good: Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey
    Fair: Sanjaya Malakar
    Mediocre - Abysmall: Nonemoreless
  • Latin Night with Jennifer Lopez

    7.5
    "Good"
Well, this week's theme is Latin Night and Jennifer Lopez is mentoring the Idols.

    1) MELINDA - "Sway" Her vocals are fantastic as usual. However, didn't really fit the Latin theme. She could have maybe danced some cha cha or something as she looked stiff. Didn't sound sultry enough in my opinion, but still a strong performance. (8/10)

    2) LAKISHA - "Conga" I was entertained as she tried to dance to the rhythm. Vocals were just ok though, but she showed a lot of personality and had fun on stage. (8/10)

    3) CHRIS R. - "Smooth" His vocals were just ok, doing his usual runs to the song, almost ruining it for me. Performance-wise was just OK for me but not enough to WOW me. (7.5/10)

    4) HALEY - "Turn the beat around" She's got great legs, this much I can tell you. Vocally she sounded just average. Should have danced more instead of just pacing up and down the stage. Compared to Diana Degarmo (who did this song in Season 3) she's just blah. (6/10)

    5) PHIL - "Maria Maria" From the get go, his vocals sounded bleh. Tried too hard to sound sulty, didn't work for me. A boring and forgettable performance. Looks shaky for tomorrow. (5/10)

    6) JORDIN - "Rhythm is gonna get you" She's so much fun to watch and she lights up the stage everytime she performs. Great personality and fantastic vocals. (9/10)

    7) BLAKE - "I need to know" His vocals sounded really good. Strong performance and boy, he can really move. Thought he'd move more though. I disagree with Simon that it's the Best performance of the night, but do agree that it's definitely the right song choice for him. (8/10)

    8) SANJAYA - "Besame Mucho" He actually amazes me week by week. He has shown a lot of improvement. This time he actually sounded quite good. However, I still think he's the weakest singer in this competition. (6/10)

Prediction for bottom 3 : Phil, Haley & Sanjaya
    Bottom 2 : Phil & Haley
    Eliminated : Phil

Sorry Phil, based on tonight's performance I don't think he's good enough. Plus, I've given up on predicting that Sanjaya will be eliminated each week.moreless
  • i cant stand melinda she looks like a retarded person no offense or anything. But anyway the best of the nigth would be either lakisha (my favorite), or jordin who is a good singer but i just cant see her geting much farther.moreless

This was an okay day nobody did to good nobody did terrible. I live in a family where i like lakisha but everyone else is obsessed with melinda and i just cant take it snymore. My grandmother showed me an article in some boring low rated newspaper and it said that lakisha is an A- and Melinda is an /a but who cares what they say this is coming from someone who belioeves that Phil Stacy is final 3 material so whatever. But anyway my bottom three is Phil Haily and Chris then Chris is safe and finally Phil goes homemoreless
