Daniel Powter performed "Bad Day", which was the elimination song, after the recap, as a slideshow from the season played. He is the first non-Idol celebrity to play an original song during this time. Season 1 had Pop Idol winner Guy Sebatian, Seasons 2 and 3 had Paul Anka covering/rearranging "My Way" by Frank Sinatra and Season 4 did not have a live performance.
Actors Ben Stiller, Taye Diggs, and Christine Applegate, singer Mandy Moore, Olympian Sasha Cohen and season 4 contestant Constantine Marulios were in the audience.
There were no video clips before any of the performances but before after the commercial breaks before each one sang their final song, there was a video of the contestants parents.
For the first time ever there are two separate original Winner's Songs, depending on who wins. Usually both perform the same song and whoever wins releases it. The only other time that there were two different Winner's Songs was in Season 2, but only Clay had an original, as Ruben did a Westlife cover.
Ford music video: "Young at Heart" by Frank Sinatra. The Idols are old and having a senior's party. At the end they are in a car and are themselves again.
There was no group number however, each of the three finalists sang a song of the AI5 CD. Taylor sang "Taking It to the Streets" by The Doobie Brothers, Katharine sang "Think" by Aretha Franklin and Elliott sang "Moody's Mood For Love" by James Moody/Eddie Jefferson.
Actors Zac Efron and Rosanne Barr, and talk show host Leeza Gibbons were in the audience. Clive Davis who picked the contestants' first song, was also in the audience
During Chris' journey through Idol piece there was a piano version of the Bad Day song that plays.
Ford music video: "Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. Katharine wants to park her Hybrid car but when the garage gets opened it is full of junk. The guys clean it out and put a garden in it. Katharine pulls in and Kermit the Frog appears in her car to say "I guess being green isn't that hard".

Actors Jerry O'Conell,Rebecca Romijn and TV host Melissa Rivers were all in the audience.
Chris Daughtry being eliminated was one of the biggest idol "Shockers" since the show started.
Rebecca Romijn requested that Taylor Hicks sing "Jailhouse Rock" again. This was the first time ever, that someone who wasn't in the bottom group performed.
The Idols were all taken to Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, since his songs was the week's theme. They meet Precilla Presley (and Lisa-Marie off screen).
