Sugarland performed "Stuck Like Glue" and Jennifer Hudson performed "Where You At?" George Huff, who was on American Idol in the same season as Jennifer Hudson, was one of her back up singers.
The Ford Music Video was "All This Beauty" by The Weepies. The contestants use recycled materials (bottles, newspaper, cardboard etc.) to build a tree. Then it starts to rain.
The Group Number was "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Right after the Group Number Stevie Wonder came out on stage and sang "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" and then "Happy Birthday" (his version) to Steven Tyler (as this episode aired on his birthday) and a cake and painting were presented to Steven. The Top 11 sang back up for Stevie. This is the first time something like this has ever happened during a Group Number.
During their performance, Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles messed up the lyrics. This is the first time ever there has been a very noticeable screw-up by one of the special performers.
There was a video clip about how much James loves wrestling. Him and Paul were shown constantly wrestling, and James made a joke to Hulk Hogan to watch out. During their results, Ryan said that neither were safe, to which Hulk Hogan showed up. He announced that both James and Paul were safe but that Ryan was not, and "punched" him in the face. This is the first time someone besides Ryan (and Brian in Season 1) revealed the results to the contestants.
NASCAR racers Trevor Bayne and Joey Logano were in the audience tonight.
When Ryan was introducing Jennifer Hudson he said "she is the only Idol winner with an Oscar", she did not win, however it is clear he knew he flubbed as he paused after the word winner. He most likely wanted to say she is the only Idol contestant to have won an Oscar.
There were 30 million votes.
Voted Off: No one due to the judges using the save on Casey Abrams
3. Thia Megia
2. Stefano Legano 1. Casey Abrams

After Pia's performance, Ryan comments that the best view was behind her. As Ryan was asking her to turn around the camera switched angle and showed other things. It is most likely a censorship because of its connotation of the meaning as suppose to a mistake.
The episode started with a black and white screen and the size was smaller, to represent the time of Motown.
After Jacob's performance Steven went on the stage and gave him a hug. When Ryan read out his numbers he told the audience members to come up and give Jacob a hug as well.
Funk Brothers' bassist, Bob Babbit performed on stage during Jacob and James' performances.
Thia messed up her words a bit during the song. The judges didn't say anything, but during her little speech after the commercial break, she mentioned it.
Actresses Liv Tyler and Jennifer Beals, Aerosmith Bassist Brad Whitford, Singer Otis Williams and Celebrity Chef Gordan Ramsey were in the audience.
Lee DeWyze performed "Beautiful Like You" and Black Eyed Peas performed "Just Can't Get Enough".
The Ford Music Video was "Val Kilmer" by Bowling For Soup. The Idols go to a drive in and see various movies, of different genres in which they appear. Movie 1: Lauren is tied up in a warehouse and Paul is her captor. Scotty and Pia come to rescue her. Movie 2: Thia and Naima are watching Jacob reporting the news when James appears in the room suddenly. Movie 3: Karen is consoling a broken-hearted Haley when Stefano shows up and they embrace.
The Group Number was a mix of "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf and "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga. For the first time ever the songs were sung intertwined with each other, with the girls doing Born This Way and the boys doing Born to Be Wild, and going back and forth between the two.
