AIRED:
In this special two-hour elimination episode, the group of 50 are called all together, and have one minute to re-pitch their invention in front of the judges and their fellow inventors. The judges narrow down the field to the top 24. The top 24 make a personal plea to the judges about what the invention means to them, and the field is eliminated down to 12. The 12 finalists are each given $50,000 to make their invention better.moreless

  • American Inventor gets down to business and weeds out the humorous and zeroes in on real innovations. ABC's judges want more. They want "passion" and enthusiasm and this triggers some heartwarming but also heartbreaking backstories as well. To win the onemoreless

This episode of American Inventor is pivotal. Will the ABC reality show finally be about inventing or will it only be America's "funniest" invention-like vignettes? This episode superficially examines what have been chosen as the nations 50 best inventions. But the tv show takes a turn. A sharp turn to being a show that wants to be a tear-jerker as well as a show about inventions. Maybe this will satisfy the fans of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, but will it satisfy the millions of viewers who want a competition show about inventions and the process of inventing? Only the ratings will tell. Maybe next season American Inventor will make adjustments and the format will actually be about inventors, Eureka moments and the exciting journey of real inventing. Let's hope so.moreless
