how come the movie ends in a cliffhanger?

    the mini series doesn't talk about the thing with the ending. about the symbol at the international space station. how come it ended without answering the question who were working with the andromeda strain?

    As to the title of your thread it doesn't it's called an open-ended ending giving room for a second part in the future if they choose.
