Dylan is taken by surprise when some armed men board the Maru and attack him and drag him off to an unknown destiny. When Trance returns, Dylan is nowhere to be found and no one knows where he is except for one tiny clue - a very unusual button lying on the floor.

When Dylan wakes up - the story takes us back to a time when he and Rhade were on a secret mission together and things go wrong and he is forced to remember what had happened and is blamed for the deaths of some people during their mission.

Dylan is tied up in a chair and beaten badly, and tortured. The situation looks really grim. Trance meanwhile tries to find Dylan. This is her first big adventure with Dylan and this is one of her many wonderful ways of always coming to the rescue when he needs it the most. I always liked Trance's character and always knew there was more to her purple tail than meets they eye!! I love the fact that although she is the one that gets him out of the toughest jams, the bond between Dylan and Trance become more special. The friendship between these two are very unique and very very warm and wonderful throughout the series.

I like the fact that the Production team included a character from the universe to be part of Dylan's crew. After all, without the universe, none of us would exist and so with Trance along with all her mysterious secrets makes an awesome "tale" of adventure!!

Trance may well be Beka's "lucky charm" and Harper's favorite little "sister best friend", but we soon loearn that she will be Dylan's "biggest secret protector" on all his adventures throughout the series.moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Dylan was at one time assigned to the Argosy Special Operations Division, the branch of the High Guard concerned with covert operations. One of his missions was to assassinate Chancellor Ferrin, of the planet Mobius. It was during this mission that Dylan first met Gaheris Rhade. After the mission Dylan was assigned as Captain of the Andromeda and picked Rhade as his First Officer.

    • Beka and Tyr's candlelight dinner: The style of cooking Tyr uses when he prepares dinner for Beka- quick chopping with two knives and cooking on a flat metal surface as opposed to a pan/wok/pot- is a version of teppanyaki, a form of cooking popular in Japan, China, and other parts of Asia. The translation of the term is "metal slab cooking", loosely.

    • The number pad Trance uses to send a courier message uses Chinese/Japanese Kanji characters for the numbers 1 through 9. However, they're in no discernible logical order.

    • We learn Captain Hunts serial number in this episode to be "Dylan Hunt Commonwealth Captain HE5095C21922."

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Trance: That's the thing about guessing. Ninety per cent of the time it's fifty-fifty.

    • Beka: The Maru is not just a ship, it's my livelihood. It's the hospital where I was born. I opened Christmas presents in the airlock as a kid. And after the Salvage Guild debutante's ball, it's where I lost my-

    • Venetri: I'm Ferrin's architect, which makes me closer to him than his first mistress.
Rhade: Then why don't you kill him and save us the trouble?
Venetri: Kill him? I was told that this was...
Dylan: The truth! Which is that this is a NON-VIOLENT extraction. Correct?
      Rhade: If you say so.

    • Dylan: Mr. March, I think you're becoming a pessimist.
Rhade: I'm a realist. And I think we need to revisit a realist's solution. Ferrin should be eradicated.

    • Rhade: You've gotta hand it to Ferrin. He's ruthless and efficient. He runs an orderly society.
Dylan: Didn't you tell me an hour ago you wanted to kill him?
Rhade: I said I admire him. I didn't say I like him better than me.
Dylan: At least you're consistently Nietzschean in your views.
      Rhade: Thank you.

    • Dylan: How did you find me?
Trance: Oh, that was easy. (shows Dylan the button) I had this.
Dylan: You found me with a button?

    • Trance (Speaking about her former job on the Maru): Well, first I'd find things and then I'd take them and give them to people who wanted them.
      Dylan: You were a thief?
Trance: No! Thieves have bad intentions, I never do. But I am going to steal you now.

    • Dylan: They found the guards.
Rhade: We don't have time to be subtle or nice anymore. We have to kill him.
Dylan: I take it back. You're not consistently Nietzschean.
      Rhade: What do you mean?
Dylan: What's to stop them from killing us, huh? Try a hostage. A high-level hostage.
Rhade: Mr. April, I like the way you think.

    • Dylan: You can see the future, can't you?
      Trance: That depends.
      Dylan: On what?
Trance: Well, there are all kinds of futures. I can--Anyone can see any number of possibilities, all of which are constantly diverging. Contingencies arise, and paradox vanish and all the while we turn our way from chaotic uncertainty never knowing which of hundreds of possible realities we could find outselves in. And--
      Dylan: Trance? Which way?
      Trance: Left.
      Dylan: Thank you.

    • Rhade: This is the mission?
      Dylan: This is the mission.
Rhade: You've got to be kidding. Kidnap Chancellor Ferrin?
      Dylan: EXTRADITE him.
Rhade: KIDNAP him. Then smuggle him to Tarn Vedra so he can stand trial.
Dylan: Well, he certainly deserves it. His invasion of Xangbristol Four has destabilized this entire sector. Face it, he needs to be removed.
Rhade: Mobius isn't even part of the Commonwealth. Neither is Xangbristol.
Dylan: People are dying. We have to do something.
Rhade: Fine. Then let's find Ferrin and put one through his head. Problem solved.
Dylan: You see? This is why I am in charge.

    • Trance: Here. I want you to drink this very slowly. It's water.
      Dylan: How--?
Trance: How? Well, when two hydrogen atoms love each other very much, they bond with an oxygen atom...
