The Captain of the Starry Wisdom is Ismail Khalid, a Nietzschean who stayed loyal to the Commonwealth during the rebellion.
Dylan and Sara met when he and Ismail Khalid saved her after her scientific research station had been attacked by a swarm of Magog. Dylan was sent to rescue her by Sara's Aunt Admiral Stark.
Dylan's Hologram: (as Sara attempts to pull the Andromeda away from the black hole) I can't wait to see the look on my face when you pull me out of there. Sara: Another Dylan. Whatever would I do with two of you?
(Harper tests his teleportation device) Beka: Careful, Harper. That's one of Trance's plants. Harper: I know, I know. Beka: She loves them. Harper: I know. Beka: She names them. Harper: Trust in the Harper, the Harper is good. Now, it goes in here...(plant disappears)...and comes out here. (he smiles at his success as it reappears. The plant explodes and his smile fades) Beka: I believe she called that one...(wipes plant goo off her face)...Walter.
(Dylan says his goodbyes to Sara) Rev: Sometimes it's enough to write the letter even when you know no one is going to read it.
(About the Black Hole) Rev: It's strange, isn't it? How something as beautiful as a star could give birth to something so ugly. Dylan: It's not ugly, it's just hungry.
Sara: If I didn't believe in taking risks, I wouldn't have met Dylan in the first place.
(About the Perseids) Beka: And they're annoying. Dylan: I like them. Beka: Of course you like them. You like everyone. Even people who try to kill you--especially people who try to kill you.
(To the Perseids) Dylan: Rommie is not a lab rat.
Dylan: Sara, in the last hour I have tried eleven different ways to say goodbye to you. And in the process I discovered something. I can't.
(Harper shows Dylan his teleportation device with a upgrade from last time) Harper: Watch this. (he hits a button and a melon blows up in the display case) Dylan: You blew up a Kali Melon. Harper: Yeah. But that's not the impressive part. This is. (grabs another melon, draws a face on it, puts it on the platform, hits a button and it disappears. Dylan stares in awe) I blew up THAT Kali Melon. Dylan: Time travel.
Beka (To Dylan): You, have pulled some real knee-slappers before, but this has got to be the Queen Mother. Dylan: If you want to talk me out of it, take a number. The line starts behind Rommie. Beka: Oh, no, that's okay. We both know you're completely impervious to reason. I just wanted to tell you that killing yourself out of some misdirected need to play the lovesick schoolboy isn't the kind of thing that impresses people. Dylan: You know it's not as simple as that. Beka: That's right. It isn't. The truth is, you feel guilty. You survived the war and Sara didn't. Well join the club, all of us feel guilty for something, Dylan. It's called life. It hurts. It isn't fair. But it's not a reason to die.
Sara: You can't change the future by living in the past. Although, it certainly would be nice to have you around.
Dylan: But if I stay, the Dark Ages will still last for 300 years. Sara: And you won't make a difference to anyone, but me.
Dylan: It's a black hole, Sara. It's a fluke that I made it through, I don't want you taking that risk. Sara: Yeah, well, as far as you're concerned I've been dead for three hundred years.
Sara: You know, Dylan, I don't care about the physics. And I don't care about the math. I just want you back.
We say atoms are bound by weak attractors. Why not admit the truth: the Universe is held together by love. Michio Von Kerr, Wayist physicist.
