Dylan: (attempting to find a way to survive when their escape pod has only minutes of air left) Finish your plan yet?
Tyr: Yes, I have a plan. How are you doing, Dylan?
Dylan: Finished. So, what's your plan?
Tyr: In my plan, we would die.
Dylan: Oh.
Tyr: Yours?
Dylan: Well, see, my plan is... uh... it involves a spacewalk. (Tyr looks incredulous) Well, we die. (Tyr throws up his hands in disgust) We need a better plan.
Errin: Beka Valentine, you're an excellent pilot. If I didn't know better, I'd mistake you for a Nietzschean.
Beka: Thanks, I think?!
Dylan: What's up?
Beka: I've got bad news, and then I've got some bad news.
Dylan: Phew! For a moment there, I thought something good was going to happen today.
Beka: (holding gun to Errin) You can die, get out of the way, or help. What's it gonna be?
(Dylan stares at Errin Shohashi, apparently mesmerized. Tyr gets up in Dylan's face.)
Tyr: (repeating what Beka just said) She's Nietzschean.
Dylan: (still staring) She can be anything she wants to be.
Tyr: (about the senator) Even the Grim Reaper didn't want her.
The universe is bound
in equal parts
By arrogance and altruism.
Any attempt to alter this
Would be suicide.

Titanic:
The ship's destruction by a comet (essentially ice and similar substances) as well as the flaws in the escape pods are likely an allusion to the Titanic, a similarly praised ship which was destroyed by a collision with an iceberg and had an insufficient number of lifeboats.
Shohashi:
This is a possible reference to Sho Hashi, the first king of the Kingdom of Ryukyu (today Okinawa Prefecture), having united the islands' three kingdoms of Chuzan, Hokuzan, and Nanzan by conquest.
Genghis:
This is a reference to the Mongolian Emperor Genghis Khan.
