    The Good;
Love all the Lilah stuff, especially love 'Files and records' girl (who presumably gets killed by the Beast in season 4). The seige of the Hyperion is also good as is the reveal of Lorne's message

Won't the LAPD notice all this going on?

    Questions and observations;
Justine's sister is portrayed by Pat Tallman (her stunt double) who was one of my favourite characters from Babylon 5. Gunn refers to his cousin, I thought Elana was his only family? Fred is a computer expert now, just like Willow. Connor likes Angel in vampface which explains why he has no problem with Jasmine's true form. Cordy comments that Connor has Angel's brow. Holtz has killed 378 vamps in 9 years which is good going, in six years by my count Buffy has only killed about 150 vamps/demons and she's the most successful Slayer ever (although she has spent much of that time running away to LA and dead).

  • Dad

Dad was a really superb episode of Angel. I really enjoyed watching this story unfold as Angel fights to protect his newborn son. There was a lot of character development on Angel's part and it was interesting to see how he intereacted with the other characters regarding the baby. There was lots of supernatural action, drama, intrigue, and suspense. I think this episode definitely paves the way for the future of the series and I can't wait to see how it all plays out. This episode really sets the tone for the events that will play out in the rest of the season. There were some great scenes with the Wolfram & Hart Lawyers, as well as the regular Angel Investigations crew. I look forward to seeing how every thing plays out in the next episode!!!!!!!

    "Abysmal"
This is the only episode of the series that was so unpleasant I turned it off.

If I wanted to listen to squalling baby, I'd book an airplane flight. After five minutes of non-stop crying, I started hoping the vampire cult would capture the baby... and eat it. After ten minutes of non-stop crying, I gave up and came to tv.com to see how the episode turns out, because I simply couldn't stand it any more.

I'm glad that the baby wasn't the focus of too many episodes, because babies aren't characters. They're only a plot device, and there's only so much you can do with them.

    "Great"
Dad is a great episode that can drag in places and falls a little flat compared to last episode's excellence but nonetheless is a good introduction to the life of fatherhood of Angel.

The main plot was actually well put together and the whole fake baby thing was a great idea IMO. I liked that it felt like everyone was closing in on the gang and how many enemies the child already had and he was only alive for about an hour! The car chase scene was good, if not entirely exhilirating and I liked that they did something sensible and used real firepower in the form of a flamethrower.

This episode also featured the introduction of Justine, who is probably my favourite of this season's three main villains (Justine, Holtz, Sahjhan) and the relationship she forms with Holtz is an interesting one, at times fatherly and at others it seemed like more of a husband/wife connection. Their relationship has some parallels with Angel and Darla. Justine and Holtz were similar- everything in their life had been destroyed and they had nothing left but vengeance to keep them going. By rounding up people like this, Holtz insured their never wavering loyalty and their willingness to die would provide him with a better army than any demons could make. The Wolfram and Hart scenes were just sort of pointless in this episode. We didn't learn anything new except files and records is an actual person. We knew all this information about Holtz so why are being told it again? It was a real shame as their episodes are usually much more interesting but here they were dead weight- even Lilah couldn't save them from boredom. Angel was completely annoying all throughout this episode with his over protection of Connor. It actually came off rather ridiculous. I understood he wanted to protect his child but there's such a thing as overreacting. Cordelia telling him that he couldn't always be there was great but then ruined by his complete ignoring of her comment. The entire "he'll get to the hospital if I don't" thing also was a bit stupid. So Angel would dust himself just to make sure Connor got to the hospital if he had, say broken a leg? Somehow I can't see it. Dad is a good episode and definitely entertaining but some bad points keep it from being being excellent. It's still Angel, therefore it's essential TV, but could have been a lot better.

    "Mediocre"
Dad-Angel discovers how hard it is being a new dad - especially when the demon underworld is after your newborn son. Will he be able to keep his son safe from the hordes of demons after his new born son?

A mediocre episode that continues the Miracle child arc, but doesn't make much out the hour. The baby is very adorable, though the constant crying got annoying..fast! No wonder the writers quickly got rid of the baby after a few episodes. It's nice to Angel trying to get close to his son but the vampire face scene with the baby was creepier than intended to be. But I can't help but be annoyed by Angel throughout this hour, I get the over-protected father routine but he literally would almost snap anytime someone wanted to hold the baby. Not to mention, leaving the gang like that to fight all those demons. Also, the demon cults after the baby plot got boring fast and you new Angel giving the demons a fake baby was hardly a surprise. Also, the Holtz scenes agai bored me, with his scenes with his little helper for the rest of the season, Justine making a uninteresting first impression. At least, the last scene was nice with Angel finally naming his son, Connor and the gang all around embracing the baby. All and All, an episode with some good parts but just annoyed me more than entertain.
  • Angel learns he cant be everything to his son

    "Superb"
This was another solid episode. It sort of established how things were going to be with Conor now in everyones life. At the beginning of the ep, Angel wouldnt let anyone touch the baby. Not even his closest friends and colleagues. He was determined to be everything for his Son, but as most parents find out, that just isnt realistic. (Especially for a vamp who cant go out into the sunlight) Wolfram & Hart, Holtz, The Demon Gangs etc...are closing in quickly and Angel *acts* like he is running out with Conor and leaving the gang to deal with it. Fortunately it was a ruse and it worked for the good guys. Conor is safe....for *now* anyway.
  • Eh. Not my favorite episode, though it had it's good moments. Overall a bit too baby centric for my tastes, as I lost count of the number of times the child was picked up, put down, picked up, cooed over, etc.

    8.6
    "Great"
DB put on in credible portrayal of the over-protective Dad, but I found the message of Angel being obsessed with protecting his son a bit overkill. (However, good practice I suppose for the actor, as Boreanaz's own son was born about 6 months after this episode aired.)

My favorite scenes were the ones with Holtz. A great character played to perfection by Keith Szarabajka. You can almost feel the icy revenge seep into his words, and the viewer knows this character is going to be playing a pivatol part in Angel's life. That he will sacrifice anyone and anything for revenge on Angelus is quite evident and a foreshadowing of things to come.
  • aww angel is a daddy

    "Superb"
this is a very cute episode with angel and his son connor. the episode is the cutest episode of the show with angel protecting his son and trying to save him from evil. all the demons that wanted to kill the baby were a little annoying but does not hurt the episode to much.

i wish angel had not blown up the teddy bear who was so cute! and angel trying to get connor to sleep was the cutest thing ever!
  • Connor.

    "Perfect"
Angel is a daddy, the one thing in this world he never ever had the chance to have.

And boy is it amazing to watch as he really explores the concept of being a father, being responsible for another human life, protecting his son from the less then normal things that could hurt him, and his vampirical set backs.

I especially love the scene where Angel sings to Connor in attempt to soothe him. He tries all the goofy faces he can think of but in the end his true face does the trick. It's an extremely heart warming and tender moment after a funnier scene. An Angel trade mark I might add.
  • it had it's slow moments like the last three episodes. I didn't like those demons going after Angel thing. but what I did love were the Angel/Connor scenes. also the new character Justine and for the first time I found Holtz interesting. it's a great and

    Dad

very underrated episode. it's really fun to watch. only thing I didn't like were those annoying demons but it was still pretty good. Angel and his son and his issues. and ofcourse Holtz going to work on his own and meeting Justine. the baby was so cute and his name is Connor.

cut to the office where everyone comes and find the cages and realise its of Darla and her baby. then Lorne comes and hes staying with them. the baby cries a little and then a demon attacks and they kill it and they know it's not over yet. while Angel only thinks about the baby.

    the credits start

cut to the office. Wes goes to his desk and Angel is changing the baby there. and gives the dipers to Wes. later they are writing everyone who could be an enemy of Angel. Angel is still with not wanting anyone to help him. cut to Holtz and Sahjhan coming back to the place with those demons. Holtz want real warriors and he's mad that he didn't know about Darla. it's only Angel now and he poisoned the demons and he needs real soldiers now. cut to the hotel again. the baby still doesn't want his bottle and Angel didn't like it either. Lorne put something on the hotel so no-one can enter. except if they throw a fire bomb. they need to take the baby to a hospital for examinations and for shots. Angel tells the gang to do better cause he promised his mother and no-one is gonna put their hand of this child. cut to the lawyers. they need to have the baby and it was never born cause Darla staked herself. they need to have the baby.

cut to Angel's room and the baby keeps on crying. Lorne comes in and they sing for the baby but still he doesn't stop (hilarious scene btw) then Lorne tells Angel that the baby is more than a mission and it has already a lot of enemies. Lorne tells Angel to really look at it and leaves. Angel looks at the baby and then he tries to comfort him again by turning his vamp face and then the baby stops crying. he feels comforted with Angel that way. cut to Lilah going down and asks a woman all the files they have on Angel and she says they're 35 cabinets and she has to find out who's that man that was in Angel's hotel.

cut to Holtz following a woman. he has a picture with someone who looks like her. then she attacks him. he says that he knows everything about her. Justine and that she has grieve after her twin died by a vampire. he wants something of hers but she just wants him to stay the hell away from her. cut to the hotel. Angel comes with his baby and Cordy says it looks like him. he wants there to always be for it but Cordy says it's impossible cause he also has other things do to and she takes him to the sun and says that he can't be with his son in the sun. and then he says that she would do everything for his son even if the sun kills him. cut to Lorne and says that the janitor closet is the only save place. then they also know there enemies outside and one wants the baby's bones and they will brake the spell in the night.

cut to Lilah downstairs looking for the case files and she can't find it but that girl knows everything and tells her it's Holtz and that Angelus and Darla murdered his family and now Lilah knows what she wanted to know. cut to Justine killing a vamp and Holtz is very close. Justine gets distracted and he kills the vamp. he wants her help to kill Angel and she starts to be interested and follows him. cut to the hotel and it's almost time and the demons want to enter but Angel is gonna go with the baby and leave the gang behind. they are afraid but Angel says they're after him and the baby and then he leaves through the sewer. cut to the lawyers and they need to find the baby and Lilah impresses Lindwood.

cut to the gang getting ready and the enemies fighting and when they go in Wes fries some of them. and then one realised Angel and the child are gone he goes inside and gets fried as well. cut to the others realising Angel left and they follow him and when they arrive to a place Angel gives the baby to all those people and then escapes and what they find is teddy with a boomb and it explodes while Angel drives away. cut to Lindwood watching the camera's and Lorne was the one who told Angel about the plan and camera's. then comes Angel in and he cuts Lindwood's face and he says that everything that will happen to the baby will also happen to him. he will be responsible for it cause Lindwood's is the godfather of the baby now. cut to the hospital and the nurses say that the baby is very healthy and gives them to the gang and Angel comes and says the baby's name is Connor. and they all think it's a lovely name and Gunn has a trolley and then they all leave happy.

    Black Out

    ----------

    Best episode quotes:

Wesley: some bastard blown a gaping hole in the lift.

    Angel: Sorry. My bastard.

Wesley: Oh. Well - not like we ever use it.

Lorne: Now is that anyway to welcome a houseguest?

    Gunn: Houseguest?

Lorne: Well, I figured since you all managed to destroy my club - twice - that I wouldn't be imposing if I hit you up for a place to stay. On second thought, maybe I should reconsider that standing offer I have from a marginally attractive Mulix demon.

Wesley: Well, if he/she/it has more suitable accommodations...

Lorne: Ah, come on, hand over the little nipper. Let Uncle Lorne have a gander. Oh, come on, I'm sure everyone else's already had their turn! Wow. I'm sensing a serious 'mama bear' vibe.

Cordelia: Yeah, we're all still waiting our turn.

Lorne: I get it. Lookee don't touchee? - I see he's got himself a little scratch...

Cordelia: Yeah, during the rush to get out of the alley. Here, let me put a little ointment on it.

Angel: I-I I got it. I got it. Easy. Right there. Alright. Let your arms out. - Okay. Shh. What? What did I do?

Cordelia: You don't have a woman's touch - whatever your taste in clothing may indicate.

Wesley: Angel, we could use your help when you're finished - changing the baby - who is being changed on my desk.

Angel: Sorry. I needed the space.

Wesley: Of course. And seeing as you once nearly had sex on my desk I shouldn't be surprised that now there is a baby on it.

Angel: Hey! First of all that wasn't me, that was some guy who switched bodies with me. And second of all can we keep the S E X talk away from the baby?

    Wesley: Do you need help?

Angel: Ah, no, Wes. I know how to change a diaper - a normal one with pins. It's these newfangled fasteners.

Wesley: Did you know these diapers are lined with a space-age material originally designed for NASA astronauts? Hmm, interesting. Though now I'm picturing grown men in nappies and am rather disturbed.

Angel: Ah. What, what, what? What is it? You can't be wet again. I just changed you. Ah-hmm, are you hungry? I got a bottle all ready for you. Where did I put his bottle? I had a bottle all ready for him! Okay. Here's your babba. Take your babba. You just take it like this and you drink, and you're happy.

Sahjhan: Listen to me, Holtz, we got prophecies to fulfill. We don't need some deep, dark plan for Angel. You put a stake in him, you watch him go poof! It's a classic.

Holtz: Step one is getting rid of these minions.

Sahjhan: No. Step one is poof. And then there are no more steps. And we can't get rid of the Grapplars. I signed a two-week contract. - Trust me, you don't wanna piss these guys off.

Holtz: They're soulless beasts bred only to maim and kill.

Sahjhan: Ah! Maim and kill. Two more words I like. You're gonna need these guys - unless you're plan is to kill Angel with candy clowns and marshmallow pies.

Cordelia: The world is a sick and demented place. You know there are already three websites offering money for the baby?

Lorne: Well, we can get out if we have to. I installed an emergency exit down in the sewers. A-a mystical barrier, opens and closes with a password. Pylean word for hedgehog.

    Fred: Oh. - Oh! hihihihi

Gunn: I'm guessing it means something very different in English?

Angel: We get into the websites?

Fred: Not yet. Normally all we would have to do is hack into the e-mail and track the relays but - they're using re-mailers.

    Angel: Which means?

Cordelia: Which means there is no direct id, it's going to take a little time...

Angel: We don't have a little time. Are those all the names up there on the board?

Wesley: Working on some other leads. We all want the same thing, Angel. We're doing the best we can.

    Angel: Do better.

    Wesley: Angel!

Angel: I promised his mother. No one is gonna put their hands on this child. No one.

Lorne: He doesn't like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles? I thought you said this kid had a soul.

Angel: You know what, you're fed, you're changed. I hold you, you cry. I put you down, you cry. What do you want me to do here? I'm a terrible father. I can't even get him to stop crying.

Lorne: Yeah, well, it's getting a little tense - your vibe, that is.

    Angel: My vibe? What vibe?

Lorne: Oh, just the incredibly anxious one that's been coming of you in waves ever since he was born. He's deeply connected to you. If you're wound this tight, how do you think he's gonna feel?

Angel: Hey, he's not even a day old and he's got an enemies list. How would you feel? Wouldn't you be a little edgy?

Lorne: Yeah. I'd also be in awe. Look at him. He's more than a mission, bro. Look at him. Look at him.

Holtz: Your punch could have been quicker - without so much to drink.

Justine: It's kind of a trade-off, because without that much to drink hurts a lot more.

Holtz: You stick to the shadows.

Justine: I'm not much of a day person.

Holtz: I'm not here to fight.

    Justine: Your bad luck.

Holtz: I know you're in pain. I know what it's like to grieve.

Justine: Nice goatee. Kind of rounds out the whole creepy stalker look. I'll be moving on now.

    Holtz: Justine. I'm not finished.

    Justine: You know my name?

Holtz: I know everything. You know at seventeen twenty two Spaulding. You stay out all night. Sleep all day. Ever since your sister was murdered six months ago. Your twin. - It wasn't a mugging like the paper said, was it? Major blood loss, two unidentifiable neck wounds."

    Justine: So?

Holtz: My name is Holtz. I want to help you.

Justine: I'll tell you what I want. I want you to stay the hell away from me.

    Cordelia: Get any sleep?

Angel: Nah, I was up all night watching him.

Cordelia: You know, if you'd let us take shifts we could...

Angel: No, I wasn't watching him like that - I was just - watching him. He - looks a little bit like me, don't you think?

Cordelia: Oh, yeah. Look at that brow. He's a miniature you. Why don't you hand him over for a while, catch some shut eye.

Angel: No. I'll sleep - when I know he's safe.

Cordelia: Which will be when? Around never? - Angel, I understand you wanna protect him - but you gotta let go a little. Share part of the responsibility. You can't be everything for him.

Angel: I'm his only family. My job now is to be everything for him.

Cordelia: Really? - Okay. Follow me. Come on.

    Angel: Where are we going?

    Cordelia: Come on.

    Angel: Cordelia...

Cordelia: We're going outside, where your son is gonna wanna go play. Where you have to rush him to the hospital if he gets sick in the daytime. But I see your point. You can't go outside during the day like other parents because - you're a vampire. And even if you weren't - you can't do everything for him.

Angel: If he has to get to the hospital at noon on the sunniest day of the year, he'll get there even if I don't.

Lilah: This is impossible. Two hundred seventy five years of the most inane... What kind of wussy name is Liam anyway? - Okay. You're at the hotel. The pirate is about to kill Angel. Angel calls him - what? What was it? - Hose. - Hope.

    Woman: Holtz?

    Lilah: What?

Woman: Holtz, Daniel, vampire killer, circa seventeen fifty four. He hunted Angel and Darla halfway around the world until his mysterious disappearance in seventeen seventy three. Larson McMillian Vampiricus Conquestus page four twelve.

    Lilah: How did you...

Woman: I'm files and records. It's my job.

Lilah: You mean I've been sitting here for the last fourteen hours...

    Woman: Ah-hmm.

Lilah: To find that you know everything that's in this case file.

    Woman: No, Miss Morgan.

    Lilah: Oh.

Woman: I know everything in every case file. I'm Files and Records, it's my...

Lilah: ...your job. Unbelievable. So what's the skinny on Holtz then? Why the big hate-on for Angel?

Woman: Just a moment. Seventeen sixty-four. Angel and Darla kill Holtz, Caroline, Holtz, Sarah, and Holtz, Daniel infant son.

Lilah: Massacred his family. That'll do it.

Woman: Holtz vows to revenge their blood, May seventeen sixty-four. Pursues Angel and Darla relentlessly for nine years, racking up an incidental body count of three hundred seventy-eight vampires in the meantime.

Lilah: So what we're dealing with is a single minded vengeance machine with a bloodlust to match. That's just - awesome.

Justine: What the hell are you doing here?

    Holtz: Watching you fight.

Justine: Why did you wait so long?

Holtz: I wanted to see if you could win.

Justine: Always. I would have kicked his ass if you hadn't distracted me.

Holtz: Hmm. I wasn't your problem.

    Justine: Really?

Holtz: You fight well and lack strategy. Your passion works against you.

Justine: And you're here to teach me about passion.

Holtz: I'm here to teach you how to fight.

Justine: What's in it for you?

Holtz: You help me kill a vampire.

Justine: You don't need me for that.

Holtz: I do. This vampire is strong.

Justine: What are we talking about. Some kind of Karate Kid Mr. Miyagi groove thing? Wax on, wax off.

Holtz: You'll find your references to modern popular culture tend to be lost on me.

    Justine: What a shocker.

Holtz: But I know you're interested in more that the trivial. Your life has been ruined. You can't sleep. Instead you wander the streets, making others pay for what happened to your sister. That's where I can help. I see your talent. And I see your hate. And I know that I can shape and hone you into an instrument of vengeance.

    Justine: Sounds like fun.

    Holtz: It won't be.

Angel: Plan is I go. Take the baby somewhere safe.

    Cordelia: What?

Angel: He was born in a siege, he's not gonna die in one.

Wesley: But if you stay and help us fight... You said it yourself: we're in a war.

Angel: And now I'm in a retreat.

Wesley: What happened to taking them out?

Angel: There's too many of them. I can get out through the sewers. With any luck I'll get a couple miles before anyone notices that I'm gone.

Cordelia: So you're just gonna leave? Run away?

Gunn: Why not? That's what he's good at. Sure you don't wanna fire us first? A little icing on the cake while you leave us here to do the fighting?

Lorne: I thought we already established this as a bad, bad idea.

Angel: No, you're gonna be all right. Once they break the spell and storm the place they'll realize that the baby's gone and they'll go after me. Wesley, stall them if you can.

Cordelia: I'm sure tripping over our dead bodies will slow them down. You really didn't hear anything I said to you earlier, did you?

    Angel: I heard you.

    Fred: Angel! Don't leave us.

    Gunn: What are you doing?

Wesley: Trying to imagine myself as John Wayne in Rio Bravo. You?

Gunn: Austin Stoker, Assault on Precinct Thirteen.

Cordelia: If we live through this, trade in your DVD Players and get a life.

Angel: We'll get through this, I promise. The vampire/demon/biker posse, that's the easy part. The part that scares me - is all the questions. Why is the sky blue. Why do people get sick. Why is there always pigs' blood in the fridge. I don't have all the answers. Well, I do to that last one.

Angel: My son has a tiny scratch on his cheek, and now, by extraordinary coincidence so do you. I'm holding you personally responsible for anything that happens to him whether it's your fault or not. Cold, sunburn, scratched knee, what ever happens to him, happens to you, and then some. For not only are you not coming after him, you gonna make sure that he lives a long, healthy life. You just became his godfather. understand?

    Linwood: I believe I do.

    Guard: Sir?

    Linwood: It's all right.

Angel: Oh, and one more thing: College fund? Start saving. I got my heart set on Notre Dame.

Doctor: I'm happy to report you have a healthy baby boy.

Cordelia: Oh, great. But I'm not the mother.

Doctor: Oh, I'm sorry. I'm happy to report you have a healthy baby boy.

    Fred: Oh. Me neither.

Wesley: I'm afraid the mother is, ah, no longer in the picture.

Doctor: I see. Well, his height and weight are in the ninety percentile. We gave him his vitamin K and his PKU and he's doing very well. We don't seem to have his - what's his name?

Angel: Connor. His name is Connor.

Doctor: Connor. Thank you. Mr. Angel. And congratulations.

    Angel: Thanks. Hey... Mr. Angel?

Fred: Your first name is Geraldo.

Cordelia: We had to tell them something.

Fred: Geraldo Angel. You’re a pet psychiatrist with a small practice in Pacoima. Oh, and you fight crime- We just told them the name part. The rest is me, having fun.

Angel: I don't know what to say.

Cordelia: How about thanks. I appreciate it. You guys rock. Way to go?

    Angel: What she said.

Gunn: Got the best one a very small amount of money could buy.

Cordelia: Hey, you wanna go for a ride? Oh, goodness...

Wesley: Connor. That's a lovely name. I don't suppose you ever considered Wes...

    Angel/Gunn/Cordelia: No.

Fred: Not to be negative or anything, but - we're okay, right? Nobody else is coming after Connor or us?

Angel: No. We're safe for the time being. - Let's go home. Nice stroller.

    Gunn: Thank you.

  • After Darla's Sacrifice we see the gang return to the hotel. It appears as if the worst is over, but ofcourse it is far from a happy ending. With Wolfram & Hart now eggar to get their hands on the baby, Angel tries out his new role as a Daddy.

    "Superb"
I find this episode not to be one of the best, but by far, still has its unforgetable moments: When Angel tries to get the baby to stop crying, I was in tears of laughter. Some of the hilarious faces DB pulls were brilliant.

It was also intresting to see a different, loving, soft sort of side to Angel.

There was also a brilliant scene between Cordelia and Angel, where Cordy explains that Angel can't do everything for the baby. I found it quite powerful when Angel put his hand in the sunlight and pledged that he would get Connor to the hospital on the sunniest day of the year, even if he (Angel) didn't make it.

My favourite of all sceens was the end. I have to say that is my all time fave Angel ending. This is ofcourse where Angel names the baby Connor (such a cute name). It was so nice to see the gang all finally happy (even Angel smiled, lol). They were just like a real family, and it was really sweet.
