    DEEP DOWN

    The Good;
Wonderful to see Fred and Gunn as Connor's surrogate parents during the summer, would love to see that in the comics sometime. Love Fred's attempts to speak 'street' especially Gunn's little look when she says 'Word'.

    The Bad;
The vamp Fred and Gunn confront gives them the info they want then tries to attack them anyway, please!

    Best line:

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Fred is pretty vicious with the old taser! Also Linwood get's 'headhunted' WR&H style

    What the fanficcers thought;
Read a pretty good one once where Justine discovers she's pregnant with Wes' twins and goes off to rebuild her life.

    Questions and observations;
Hell of a long teaser, if you hadn't been following the series you'd be utterly lost. Note that whilst Wes is back at the AI dinner table there's no Groo? AI are almost broke, either Angel must subsidise the agency with his private income or they must spend all their time looking for Angel and CC. Vamps can exist indefinitely without blood but they go mad with hunger. Lilah mentions Mr Subarto, did she actually meet a senior partner? Do Buffy and co know about Angel's disappearance? Oddly this summer is probably the best time Connor ever has, he has 2 loving parents and a fairly normal life (as normal as it can be working for AI)

  • Angel, Connor, Cordelia and Wesley.

    7.8
    "Good"
So to recap when we last left things Connor has sunk Angel to the bottom of the ocean avenging his "father" Holtz, Angel was well sinking to the bottom of ocean after being totally betrayed be Connor and tricked by Holtz, Cordelia was becoming a higher power, and Wesley after being betrayed by his friends somehow ended up sleeping with Lilah in a manner I am still not entirely clear on.

Thank goodness though the heroic Wesley that we knew is not lost under all that tough guy, furrowed brow, chaining women in closets thing that he has going on now. He saves Angel, pulls him out of the ocean and returns him the Fred and Gunn. Thus informing them of Connor's betrayal, and boy howdy is everybody pissed. After Fred tasers him a couple of time a very angry Angel confronts him and kicks him, knowing that Connor is still so tainted by Holtz and what he taught him. Meanwhile Cordelia is off in floaty cloud land being a power, I guess. It's totally random the way the show her but pretty funny.

One of the best parts of the episode are Angel's distrubing dreams, while trapped in the ocean. He dreams of meeting Cordelia where they had planned to meet had Cordy not became a higher being (and Connor would have had to not betray Angel as well) and feeding off her. He also dreams that all them, everyone including Connor and Wesley, are having a nice dinner at the hotel. It's all very sweet, he and Cordy are all couple-y and everything is great and then room is suddenly filled with water and Connor is all super scary. The dream sequences are done really well.

    "Perfect"
Deep Down was a perfect first episode of the fourth season of Angel. I really enjoyed watching this episode because it started out with vivid hallucinations for Angel while Connor try's to protect his secret from Gunn and Fred. I thought the scene with Wesley and Lilah was good, especially the revelation after she left. I also really enjoyed watching the politics play out at Wolfram & Hart. Lilah truly is a Bad @** &!^$# and really knows how to play the game. I thought Wesley and Justine's interactions on the boat were humorous and interesting insights into the characters. I enjoyed watching Fred subdue Connor and it was a great scene when Daddy got home. I really liked the ending and thought it humorous, but I wish we got to see more of the realm where Cordelia dwells!!!!!!!
  • Angel is still stuck under the sea and cordelia is stil asended in the high havens so Fred and Gunn are still stuck clueless about what happened to the two of them.

    "Great"
I dont care what T.V .com says this spinoff should be number one on the top ten spinoffs. ( Joey, come on!) There are so many cool plot twists that take place through out the episode lie te return of Wesley to the good guys and the fact that Connor has remained with Fred and Gunn and wants to remove all trace of evidence of Angels "mysterious disaperance". The episode runs fast and forty minutes went by in a flash for me as the episode came to its dramatic conclusion of Anges rturn and Connors capture. A great start to an amazing series about the adventures of a vampire with a soul.
  • Angel and Cordelia are still missing; the start of Season 4 sets things in motion.

    9.3
    "Superb"
Deep Down is the beginning of the tremendous Season 4 and feels a bit like a continuation of S3- Connor sinking Angel to the bottom of the ocean is still at the forefront and Cordelia being missing takes an important role also.

The dream sequence at the start embodies all of which Angel wants; him and Cordelia are together, Connor is the loving son, Wesley is still his friend and he seems to be human, judging from the fact he says he's starving and tries to get the food. The dream quickly changes in tone with the food disappearing and Connor turning back into the evil bitca he really is. Then it cuts to Angel lying at the bottom of the ocean, screaming.

This dream sets the tone of the season; Angel wants these things and it seemed like he was getting them at last but then when he comes back, everything is different; Connor is further away from him than ever, Cordelia is missing and when she comes back she's evil and he reverts to Angelus, slipping away from his humanity. This season is the darkest in the series; by the end of it everyone is at a completely different place but closer for the all the heartache and troubles they've gone through. Fred and Gunn seem closer together than ever this episode; they seem to have become parental figures to Connor with Gunn taking position as alpha male. They reprimand him for doing bad things and praise him for doing good things- they almost feel like family. Of course that all changed when Fred tortures Connor and ties him up (go Fred!). She seems genuinely disappointed in him.

Wesley is an interesting character here; he claims to not care about Angel's whereabouts, claiming that part of his life is dead, yet rescues Angel, not on a whim, but as if he had a plan; Justine has clearly been locked in the closet for a long time, so Wesley obviously has been planning this for some time. His relationship with Lilah seems deeper than it was last time we seen them. They speak to each other quite fondly and Lilah protects him from Wolfram and Hart.Speaking of Lilah, thank God she killed Linwood and replaced him as the boss of special projects; her character is much better than his and he's quite unnecessary. Plus it was worth it to see Gavin's face.

I like that Angel actually punished Connor here and kicked him out, we needed to see that little creep get his comeuppance. I liked Angel's speech to him also, reminding him that Angel is a champion and he isn't. The ending of Cordy stuck on the higher plane was great and her line "God, I am so bored." was priceless. I would have liked to see more of her here this episode though as it would have been interesting to see her perspective.

Deep Down is an excellent episode that ties up S3 and begins S4. It has great visual effects and scenes and should not be missed.
  • Uhh Ohh, Daddy's Home!

    "Superb"
Deep Down-Angel and Cordelia are still missing. Gunn and Fred are still looking for them, but unbeknowist to them, one answer has been living with them all along -- Connor. Meanwhile, Wesley continues his relationship with Lilah and searches for a way to redeem himself.

A stellar start to this fantastic 4th season of Angel. The episode opens up with a frightening hallucination with Angel still stuck at the bottom of the ocean. Actually, all the hallucination scenes are disturbing and well played as Angel kills Cordy and Connor in shocking ways! It's great to see all the characters spread apart in this episode and how each are dealing with the absence of Angel and Cordy. Gunn and Fred seem to have matured a bit, mostly Fred, and I loved the scene where she shocked Connor with the taser. Other great scenes are Wesley, who continues to be the most interesting character of the series as of late last season. His dark persona is amazing to watch and Alexis owns all the scenes that his in. Like his scenes in bed with Lilah not to mention, I loved how he locked up Justine in a cage for months and she led him to Angel. Vincent also continues to work wonders as Connor. The way Connor used deception on Fred and Gunn is great to watch. The episode ends brilliantly with Angel's reunion with his son. I just love Angel's casual yet hilarious dialogue as he confronts Connor like:

Angel: "So how was your summer?"

    and

Angel: "What you did to me was horrible. Of course there was that time where I was sent to hell by my girlfriend for hundred years...it really gave me a new perspective."

    and

    Angel: "Daddy's not finished talking."

There is also a very shocking scene where Lilah kills the head lawyer of Wolfram and Hart. Just goes to show how much more villainess she is becoming. Also, I love how we see Cordelia as a higher being and she's so bored. All and All, a superb premeire to what I think is the best season of the series.
  • In 'Deep Down', Angel is still stuck at the bottom of the ocean, while Fred, and Gunn try to figure out where Cordelia or Angel even is. After Lorne hears Connor humming a tune, he finds out Connors dark little secret. They also get some help from Wesley.

'Deep Down' in my opinion is one of my favorite episodes. This along with 'Tomorrow' are a really great, and intense storyline. Throughout the entire time that Angel is in the ocean, I felt so bad for him that he never did get to see Cordy, or that his son hates him so much that he would do this. But I loved Connors reaction when he saw Angel's return. One day I was skimming around on YouTube, and found this really cool music video based on this episode. In case anyone wants to check it out, the link is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i9-u1Msc50 I strongly recommend watchin this if you enjoyed this episode.
  • Ever had that sinking feeling? Angel has.

We rejoin whats left of our gang; Fred, Gunn, and Connor. They are desperately hoping (except for Connor)for any word on Angel or Cordy. They havent even been able to get help from Lorne, who is now a Vegas hit it seems. Angel is hallucinating at the bottom of the ocean about killing Connor, and who could blame him?? Wes is still sleeping with Lilah but he is also keeping a little secret in the form of Justine chained in his closet. Seems Wes has been taking her out on a boat every night searching for his former boss. Thankfully they find him and Wes puts in a call to our gang back at the hotel. I have to mention the great scene when Fred finds out and tazes Connor. He SO deserved it. Wes brings Angel back to the hotel and Angel tells it to Connor straight: He loves his son but he wants him out of the hotel. Simply awesome episode and the last we will see of Justine.
  • We start season 4 with this unordinary mediocre "Deep Down" and "Ground State" episodes, which were only slightly better than the previous "worst season finale" of all Jossdome, "Tomorrow".

Right now, I too am sitting at the bottom of the sea turning grey and dreaming about turkey dinner with the Brady's ... no, not the Brady's ... maybe it was the Simpson's? No, I got it! I'm dreaming about how awesome this show USED to be, and where the heck did Joss go on vacation when they decided to add the floaty Cordy to the script? If I was Charisma, I would have refused to say the last lines in each episode. Oh, her only lines in each episode. Sheer stupidness.

That's right. This stinks. I hate the floaty Cordy. I'm frustrated with Fred's attitude. I've lost that good/bad father/son chemistry I used to connect to. I hate the emotional place that Wes is in. I ask you, Is there not one character happy here?

Oh yeah that's right Lorne, he's happy. He's happy doing Broadway?

WHAT! Okay this really pisses me off. My favorite demon is not even there! He's busy doing some Vegas-wanna be show and doesn't care that Angel is laying at the bottom of the sea and Cordy went all floaty bye-bye? Huh? Lorne, did you get a brain transplant? Are you that shallow that your big musical break comes first?

    *Gasp*

Did we just get a completely new writing team? Was Joss too busy with Firefly? Because that would be the only thing I'd excuse this mess for.

Gwen was fun if you never saw X-Men before. Did they lift some old story-boards they didn't use for Rogue here?

Good parts? The sex with Wes and Lilah. That was delicious. And ... there was ... nope. What about ... no. That was it, the sex. Maybe they should have just showed us the sex for the whole 42 minutes. :D

*Do I really have to watch the next episode?*

I'm so frustrated with this show, I shall stop eating cheese until this mess is straightened out!
  • This episode was just perfect. all the characters gave the best they had. it's also the best season opener ever made. this season is the show's best and this episode is even one of the season's best. every scene was powerful and dialog was superb.

    Deep Down

This is without a doubt the best season opener I have ever seen or any show. it was perfect and gave all the characters powerful scenes and devolped them. except for Lindwood but Lilah got rid of him. this episode is full of powerful scenes and dialog that makes it one of Angel's best episodes.

    Best episode quotes:

    Lorne: Here you go, darling.

    Fred: Thanks.

Gunn: You're gonna eat all that?

Fred: Until I'm fat and happy.

Lorne: Hmm, these look good, too.

    Cordelia: How about that stuffing?

    Connor: What are those?

    Cordelia: Sweet Potatoes.

Lorne: Oh, pass those over here, doll.

    Connor: Are they good?

    Cordelia: Try them.

Lorne: Back in Pylea they used to call me 'sweet potato.'

    Connor: Really.

Lonre: Yeah, well, the exact translation was 'fragrant tuber' but...

    Cordelia: You're not hungry?

Angel: No! I'm starving. It's just... I wanna freeze this moment. You - Connor - all of us - safe - and happy - and together. Considering what we went through over the summer...

    Wesley: To family.

    Angel: To family.

Lorne: As long as it is not mine!

Cordelia: You can't toast with an empty glass.

Angel: "It's not bad luck, is it?

Cordelia: Angel, relax. It's over. Things are back the way they should be and nothing is ever going to break us apart again. And if anything tries I'm gonna have to go all glowy and personally kick it's ass.

Angel: I like it when you glow.

Cordelia: Well, play your cards right...

Connor: Do I have to watch this part?

Angel: I could poke your eyes out.

Connor: Come on, dad! It'll stick up like yours.

Angel: You should be so lucky. Let's eat!

    Fred: Rolls?

    Gunn: Hmm. Those look good.

    Cordelia: Careful, those are hot.

    Gunn: Yeah! Now we're talking.

    Connor: I like this stuff.

    Cordelia: I thought you would.

Angel: Can I get the, ah...

    Wesley: Delicious.

    Fred: Pass the carrots please.

    Cordelia: Smells so good.

Gunn: Hey, get your hands out of my plate.

Lorne: Can I have the rolls?

    Wesley: Pass the salt please.

Fred: Kill me now before my stomach explodes.

    Cordelia: Hey, try the gravy.

Lorne: Yeah, look, it comes in a little boat.

Angel: Could I get that...Cordy, what...

Cordelia: Now look what you've done silly.

Connor: Freeze the moment, dad. It'll last forever.

Fred: You're not supposed to run off like that when we're supposed to be working, honey. We've talked about that.

Connor: The rest of the gang was getting away.

Gunn: Then let them. What you don't do is divide your strength.

    Connor: Sorry.

Fred: We know things were different in Quortoth, but you're in Los Angeles now. Your taking on a big responsibility.

Gunn: Connor, you've got to start thinking about more than just yourself!

Connor: I know. - I know. That thing with the ax was cool, huh?

Gunn: Yeah, that was tight. Now you get to clean it.

Connor: Vamps dust, nothing to clean.

Gunn: Two coats of polish. We gonna tell him?

Fred: I don't wanna get his hopes up again.

    Gunn: What about yours?

Fred: We have to keep trying.

Gunn: I'm not saying that we shouldn't but we've spent the last three months chasing one dead end after another trying to find Angel and Cordy, and the only thing we're closing in on, is an eviction. Be a whole lot easier to handle this crap if Lorne was pitching in. Where is our future-reading, empath demon when we need him?

Fred: Mr. Big-hit-in-Vegas is too busy danke-schon-ing the tourists to care about us.

Gunn: Did you try him again?

Fred: Like sixty times. He's lost the mission, bro.

Gunn: Well, we're about to loose this whole place and you know you can't say bro. - Alright. You need to start hustling up some paying clients.

Fred: We will. As soon as I find Marissa. Can I say dawg? Oh, this looks good. Condemned tenement on Figueroa. Could be her.

Gunn: Evil Dead was probably just messing with us, and even if she's there, not much chance she knows anything.

Fred: Angel's car was found down by the bluffs. That used to be her feeding ground. She might be able to tell us what happened - if we can find her.

    Connor: Find who?

Angel: Cordelia. - I didn't think you were coming.

Cordelia: You know me better than that. Better than anybody.

    Angel: I don't know if that's true.

Cordelia: Yes. You do. It's so beautiful here.

Angel: Yes. Yes, it is. - Just the way it should be. But it's not. This isn't how it happened.

Cordelia: I know. - I like this version better.

Angel:"It was Connor. He was here. He...

Cordelia: I can't remember what it was like - not knowing you, not being close to you. I'm in love with you Angel. Deep down I think I have been for a long time. I needed you to know that.

Angel: I need you, Cordy. I need you. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!

Connor: So why didn't you tell me?

Fred: We wanted to be sure.

Gunn: We don't even know if this Marissa girl saw anything.

    Connor: But she could have.

Fred: Maybe. We're gonna go talk to her and find out.

    Connor: I'm coming with you.

Gunn: No. It's only one vamp. We can handle it.

Connor: He's my father! If she knows what happened to him I...

Fred after a beat: "Okay. Go get your weapon.

Gunn: You think that's a good idea?

Fred: I'll keep an eye on him.

Gunn: Getting information is a finesse job. He's a blunt instrument!

Fred: You wanna tell him no? You saw how much he's hurting.

Gunn: Well, how's he gonna feel if all vampirella saw is sand and seaweed? This is it, Fred. No Angel, no Cordy. We can't find Holtz. His psycho girlfriend's gone. We got nothing.

Fred: There's still Wolfram and Hart.

Gunn: Right. We just stroll into their heavily guarded law offices and ask Lilah, the evil bitch queen, for help finding out what happened to their archenemy, but, we're kinda broke, so it'll have to be pro bono.

Fred: I didn't say it would be easy.

Gunn: How's impossible? They're too big. Without Angel we can't afford pissing them off.

Fred: Maybe we should think about asking...

    Gunn: No.

Fred: Well, I'm glad we talked it over.

Gunn: We already asked him for help twice.

Fred: Then we'll ask him again.

Gunn: Fred, Wesley doesn't give a damn about us.

Fred: Have we given him a reason to?

Gunn: He's made his choice. Now he has to life with it.

Lilah: Hmm. That didn't suck. - Well - maybe just a little bit.

Wesley: Perhaps that is something we can expand on next time.

Lilah: What makes you think there will be a next time?

Wesley: Because you can't resist me.

Lilah: I think you have that backwards.

    Wesley: Where are you going?

Lilah: Snack break's over. Time I get back to work.

Wesley: And Wolfram and Hart does its best work after dark.

Lilah: Sun's bad for your complexion. Ask Angel. Oh, right. You can't, because of the whole 'wanting to smother you with a pillow' thing.

Wesley: Wouldn't think kidnapping his son would have such a negative effect on our friendship.

Lilah: You thought you were doing the right thing. I hear that can be confusing. - Have you tried talking to him? Maybe when he gets back you can...What?

Wesley: I have no idea where Angel is, Lilah, or what happened to him. - And I really couldn't care.

Lilah: Wow. That was cold. I think we're finally making progress. Come on. Doesn't it bother you just a little bit? The not knowing?

Wesley: That part of my life is dead. - Doesn't concern me now.

    Lilah: No, it doesn't.

Justine: So, what's it gonna be tonight, captain? Bicycle, old tire, or maybe we'll get real lucky and catch us nice shopping cart. Here's a wacky thought: why don't you swim down there yourself?

Wesley: No contact. We'll try the next grid.

Justine: You really think finding Angel is going to change anything?

    Wesley: Everything changes.

Justine: "Well, I guess anything is better than sitting around in my cage all day with nothing to do but to fill my bucket.

Wesley: Perhaps you should have considered that before slitting my throat.

Justine: The great Wesley Wyndham-Price, the shining beacon of all that's good and pure. But wait, no! That's before he started banging the enemy and keeping slave-girl in his closet.

Wesley: You were always a slave, Justine. You just couldn't see the chains.

Justine: Thanks, Swami, I'll meditate on that.

Wesley: You think she would be disappointed?

    Justine: Who?

Wesley: Your sister. That's where it all began, isn't it? Sister murdered by a vampire, consumed by a need of revenge...

    Justine: For justice!

Wesley: Is that what you call it? Turning a son against his father.

Justine: Angel got what he deserved.

Wesley: We all get what we deserve. - You and Holtz deserved each other. You two have so much in common. Pain, loss, deep seated lack of anything approaching humor.

Justine: I don't know. We had a few laughs. Getting you to steal Angel's baby, now that was a good one.

Wesley: Better than tricking Connor into sinking his father to the bottom of the ocean?

Justine: Well, that was worth a couple of yuks, too.

Wesley: Not much of a plan though, was it, really? Easy to figure out which door to kick in when Angel went missing. And not much harder to persuade you to betray everything Holtz had given his life for. Not that it was worth very much. Well, you should know. You're the one that ended it.

Fred: Marissa, stop! We just wanna talk.

    Marissa: I don't know anything.

    Gunn: You psychic?

    Marissa: No.

Gunn: Then shut up and let us ask the question first.

Fred: You know the bluffs down by the beach?

    Marissa: No.

Gunn: You used to feed there.

    Marissa: Oh. Those bluffs.

    Gunn: Connor!

    Fred: Are you alright?

    Gunn: Where is she?

Connor: She attacked me. I had no choice.

Gunn: Maybe you would have if you weren't always running off, playing hero! Do you know what you just did?!

    Fred: Connor!

Gunn: Three months of this and he dusts our only lead!

Fred: You know how much he wants to find Angel. How do you think he feels?

Gunn: How am I supposed to know? It's not like he talks to me.

Fred: After everything he's gone through, you need to be a little more patient, Charles. He's just a boy.

Gunn: Are you sure about that? Offspring of two vampires. Last time I checked that's not supposed to happen. And - jumping off a six-story without busting your coconut kind of sways me to the side of not just a boy. I mean, come on, Fred. His nickname back in Quortoth was the destroyer. And unless you put Conan in front of that, I'm guessing it's not a good sign.

Fred: He's Angel's son. That's all that matters.

Lorne: Now, go easy on me. Remember they're paying to see the green.

    Guy: Two minutes.

Lorne: Oh, thanks, sweetie. A bon soir.

Fred: Lorne? Lorne! Hey, it's Fred. I've been trying to get a hold of you.

Lorne: Oh, I'm sorry, hon, I've been booked out the wha and past the zoo. If I get any hotter they'll have to stamp me out.

Fred: Lorne, I know you're busy, but we really need your help. We had a lead but it, ah - kind of died. Did you talk to your connections? Have they heard anything about Angel or Cordy?

Lorne: No, not a peep. But if I miracle ear anything I'll send up a smoke signal. Ah, that's my cue. Take care of yourself and ah, and make sure fluffy is getting enough love.

    Fred: Lorne!

    Gunn: Did he have anything?

Fred: No. And who's fluffy? Are you fluffy?

    Gunn: He called me fluffy?

Fred: He said make sure... Wait. You don't - think he was referring to anything of mine that's fluffy, do you? Because that would just be inappropriate.

Gunn: Like deserting us? No leads, no clients, pretty soon no roof over my smooth delicate head.

Fred: I could make you a paper hat. It's gonna be okay. Angel and Cordy are out there somewhere and no matter what the Powers-That-Screw-You throw at us, we're gonna find them.

    Lilah: You found Angel?

Linwood: Young Gavin's had a breakthrough with the psychics.

Lilah: Brain boys finally earning their keep. So, where is he?

Gavin: Well, I haven't pinpointed his exact location yet, but I have ascertained that he's safe and immobilized.

Lilah: Really. Maybe you can lead them in a rousing chant and get them to muster up a little more vague.

Linwood: He's contained and out of play. Which suit our purposes just fine.

Lilah: If our purpose is to get caught with our prophecies down. Angel is supposed to be a major player in the apocalypse. The little pet project the Senior partners have been working on since, oh, the beginning of time? Three months and all you've been able to ferret out is - nothing!

Linwood: Lilah, Gavin's work with the psychics has uncovered some invaluable intel in a variety of unexpected areas. - Care to enlighten us?

Lilah: What I do on my personal time is none of Gavin's business.

Linwood: But everything is my business.

Lilah: I'm not sleeping with him for information.

Linwood: Please don't tell me it's the chiseled jaw. If you have his confidence we can play it to our advantage.

Lilah: He doesn't know anything. There's nothing to take advantage of.

    Linwood: Except you.

    Justine: Blood?

    Wesley: Animal.

Justine: "What's the hurry? It's not like he's going anywhere.

Wesley: A vampire can exist indefinitely without feeding, but the damage to the higher brain functions from prolonged starvation can be catastrophic. Slowly.

Justine: All the energy you've wasted to save that thing. For what? A happy ending? Everything like it was? He hates you. They all do. And they're never going to take you back.

Connor: Is this going to be the yelling thing again?

    Fred: No. No yelling.

Connor: He looks like he's gonna yell.

    Gunn: I do not.

Connor: He always looks like he's gonna yell.

    Gunn: I'm not gonna yell!

    Fred: Where have you been?

    Connor: Out.

    Gunn: We were worried.

Connor: I'm sorry. I shouldn't run off alone. You'd think I'd know that by now.

Gunn: It's that big, thick mellon! Your dad's got one just like it. Angel's always flying off, getting himself into trouble.

    Connor: I'm not like him.

Gunn: You're not as strong yet, but...

Connor: Like I care what you think?

    Gunn: What did you say?

Fred: It's been a long night. Why don't you go wash up.

    Connor: I'm fine.

Gunn: I try to be nice and you see what he does? He just keeps pushing. It's like - it's like he wants me to lose it.

Fred: He's testing you. With Angel gone, you're the alpha male.

    Gunn: Damn straight.

Fred: Don't let it go to your head.

Gunn: That's not the direction it's flowing.

Angel: Why is it like this?

Lorne: Well, that's the age-old, bubby. I'll fire you off a postcard if I'll noodle the answer.

Angel: Life should be beautiful and bright. But, no matter how hard I try, everything I touch - turns to ashes.

Lorne: Well, there goes that encouraging hug I was planning. Snap to, buckaroo. The only one turning to ashes is that patricidal pup of yours. Hell, I'd take him out myself if I wasn't just a crappy hallucination.

    Wesley: How is he?

    Lorne: How do you think?

    Justine: He won't shut up.

Angel: I have to stop him.

Lorne: You wanna bitch-slap sour-puss over there for practice? I'm your cheering section.

    Wesley: Angel?

Angel: I have to do it.

Wesley: Shh. You need to rest now.

Lorne: Hush, little baby, don't say a word. Mamma's gonna buy you a mockingbird. And if that mockingbird don't sing...

Angel: I should have killed you.

Justine: And me without my camera.

Wesley: He's been down there too long. Pig's blood isn't enough. He needs more substantial nourishment.

Justine: Like what? Oh, screw you. I'm not feeding that thing.

    Wesley: Your blood's too thin.

Linwood: Alright, we've got a lot of ground to cover, so let's get right to it. Let's talk about Lilah. Everybody had a chance to review her file? Good. Recommendations?

Lilah: If I could just have a few minutes to explain...

Gavin: I think your record speaks for itself.

Linwood: Volumes. Your failures at Wolfram and Hart outstrip your successes by and uncomfortable margin. Perhaps you would fair better at a less central office.

Gavin: One of the third world dimensions maybe.

    Lilah: I'm sorry.

    Linwood: What was that?

Lilah: I said, I'm sorry. I've made mistakes, but fear was never one of them.

Linwood: Is there something you would like to share?

Lilah: Why haven't we contained the vampire offspring for study?

    Linwood: We're assessing that situation.

Lilah: The same way you're assessing Angel? Then why aren't we trying to pinpoint Angel's location?

Linwood: Lilah, this is my corner of the sky. I decide when the sun rises and when it sets. Lack of long-term vision has always been one of your shortcomings.

Lilah: And lack of courage has always been one of yours. You're afraid - of Angel and his son. And that's the reason for your daring strategy of 'wait and see', isn't it? You're afraid. And fear breeds weakness.

Linwood: Oh. I'm hurt. Is that really what you think of me?

Lilah: Yes. And Mr. Suvarta agrees with me.

Linwood: You spoke to a Senior Partner?

Lilah: He was really very helpful. He had some great hints on office furniture.

Linwood: This is outrageous! Are you actually telling me that you went over my head?

Lilah: Just under it, actually. Mr. Suvarta didn't think Linwood's sky was sunny enough. You're all reporting to me now. Get out. Gavin. Please - remove that.

    Connor: What?

    Fred: Brought you a snack.

    Connor: I'm not hungry.

    Fred: You're always hungry.

    Connor: What is it?

    Fred: Bologna.

    Connor: No tomatoes?

Fred: No tomatoes. What do you say?

    Connor: Thank you.

    Fred: Your welcome.

    Connor: Is he still mad?

    Fred: What so you think?

    Connor: Sorry.

Fred: I can't imagine what you've been through, Connor, being taken away by Holtz, raised in that place. It must have been horrible. I know you're still hurting but - I promise, it's not nearly as much as you're gonna hurt for what you did to your father.

Fred: You think that's what Angel felt? When you did it to him? Did he scream like you?

Connor: Why are you doing this?

Gunn: Nah-ah. Don't even try it.

Fred: We got a call form an old friend tonight.

Gunn: Been playing a little Ahab. He's out there right now puttering around on his boat.

    Fred: With Angel.

Gunn: That's right, Sparky, Daddy's coming home. And I'm guessing there's going to be a spanking.

Fred: He's been down there, all alone, for three months - and you knew!

Gunn: Is that what you did to Cordy? Stuff her in a box some place?

Fred: How could you do that to us? We took you into our home. We cared for you, and all this time... How could you do that?! How could you do that?!

Justine: He'll turn on you! He won't be able to help it. That's what he is. Sooner or later he will turn on you - and all your friends! You're just gonna leave me here?

Wesley: You can continue to be a slave, Justine - or you can live your life. Your choice.

Fred: I would have done anything for him. Now all I wanna do is hurt him.

Connor: Go ahead. Hurt me some more, Fred.

    Fred: Shut up!

Connor: You think I care? You get used to it.

Fred: You don't feel anything, do you? There's nothing inside.

Connor: Why don't you open me up and find out.

Fred: How could you do that to your father?

Connor: That thing is not my father.

    Gunn: Yes, he is.

Connor: He got what he deserved.

Fred: And how soon before we deserved it?

Wes: I believe you're looking for this.

    Fred: Angel. Oh, my god.

Gunn: Is he gonna be all right?

    Wesley: In time - maybe.

    Gunn: He's out of it.

    Fred: Oh god.

    Gunn: It's okay.

    Fred: Look at him.

    Gunn: It's gonna be okay.

Fred: What do we do? Wesley...Where are you going?

    Wesley: I'm done here.

Gunn: What took you so long to tell us about Connor?

Fred: You knew what he could do to us.

Wesley: You're human. He wouldn't have hurt you. I thought you were safer not knowing.

Fred: We were safer? You really don't care anymore, do you?

Wesley: He'll need more blood. I'm fresh out.

Fred: It's okay. God, he's freezing.

Gunn: I'll get some more blankets.

    Fred: Connor!

    Angel: Sit - down.

Connor: You're too weak to take me.

Angel: You really think that? So - how was your summer? Mine was fun. Saw some fish. Went mad with hunger. Hallucinated a whole bunch.

    Connor: You deserved worse.

Angel: Because I killed Holtz - except I didn't. I tried telling you that while you were busy offshore dumping me, but I didn't know the whole score. - Holtz killed himself. Actually - he had your buddy Justine do it with an ice pick. Just to make you hate me.

Connor: Even if - you still deserved it.

Angel: What I deserve is open to debate. - But understand there is a difference between wishing vengeance on someone - and taking it. - So now - the questions becomes: - what do you deserve? Daddy's not finished talking. Wesley told me everything that's been going on. So, as far as I'm concerned what you deserve rests on one answer: Did you do something to Cordelia?

    Connor: No.

    Fred: He's lying.

    Connor: No, I'm not.

Gunn: No way she just happened to disappear the same night.

Connor: I'm telling the truth, okay?

Angel: I know. - I can tell. You've done enough lying for me to know the difference. The truth has a better sound to it, less nasal, you know? - Get up. What you did to me - was unbelievable, Connor. - But then I got stuck in a hell dimension by my girlfriend one time for a hundred years, so three months under the ocean actually gave me perspective. Kind of a M. C. Esher perspective - but I did get time to think. About us, about the world. - Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. - It's harsh, and cruel. - But that's why there's us. Champions. It doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world was what it should be, to show it what it can be. - You're not a part of that yet. - I hope you will be. I love you, Connor. Now get out of my house.

Cordelia: God, I am so bored.

  • awesome episode!

    10
    "Perfect"
one of my favorite episodes. what is so great about it was that even though Cordy was gone it still felt as if she was there. Tomorrow was the best season final but I think that this episode was even better. it was strong and so awesome in many ways. the hallucinations of Angel and Connor. Lilah. Wesley. Justine. Gunn and Fred. they all had their own moment
  • Wherein it is revealed that being a Higher Power is not all it's said to be in the brochure.

    8.8
    "Great"
The Powers might have all sorts of things to say, but they've accidentally forgotten to open another window after closing the Cordy door. And the Oracles (who, for all I know, may have been in charge of that) are too busy being dead to make that change, so ...

Someone should really be saying //something//. After all, things are pretty bleak here and they have been for the past three months.

Whatever leads Gunn and Fred and -- oh, let's pretend because it's fun: Connor -- have been following, they haven't been nearly as much fun as what's playing out in Angel's head.

    Let's start there, shall we?

Dream sequences in the Jossverse are rarely without significance, and much like the first four episodes of S3 reintroduced the major players, Angel's hallucinations are how we're going to do that this season.

ANGEL: An elegant dinner party where everyone's getting along so well -- that seemed to highlight Angel and set the stage, reminding people of where we left off. This is his fondest wish -- getting couple-y with Cordelia, reconciliation with Wes and everyone getting along, including his well-adjusted son. Freeze the moment. It's impossible to completely ignore the scene at the very end of S4, with Connor together with a family and Angel looking in from the outside, just as distant as he feels at the end of this sequence. Wild.

CORDELIA: A scene on the beach. The alternate ending to S3, with a twist. Angel, mad with hunger, is no longer the victim in these fantasies. He can't maintain composure even within himself. And at the end of S4, Cordy is comatose, a victim perhaps of her own egomania, which is another fatal flaw for this character.

CONNOR: Angel envisions fighting alongside his son, and winning, and then, in his ultimate horror, eating him -- a reminder of S3, where W&H laced his butcher's blood with some of Connor's.

This stepped nicely into Lilah ascending the power structure of W&H, a very pleasant subtheme running through this episode -- W&H, what do they want, what are they doing to get it -- Lilah's treachery and Wesley's darkness.

There was almost no time to ignore the girl in the closet. What an excellent find she was. And I loved how there was a use for her. When we find him, you go down and get him.

LORNE: A cameo appearance. Angel's still raving, but there needs to be something humanizing for him (since Justine and Wes //together// right now barely qualify), and wouldn't you know it'd be our singing demon? The closest access to the Powers and he's trapped in Vegas, although that's just a hint. For right now, "I'd help if I wasn't just a crappy hallucination" -- Lorne's looking at a bad, bad season, so it's nice for him to have a reasonably pleasant start -- as far as we know.

Fred and Gunn make cameo appearances in the opening sequence, but since the story follows them about on their last useless venture, there's no need for Fred to talk about caves or for Gunn to talk about the mission. The alpha wave coming off this man is smooth, but talk about characters flung together. If I was building a story I wouldn't want just Gunn, Fred and Connor.

    Show us what we're missing.

Wes, a dark lord of action, an "I'll take away your bucket" badass who trusts no one and runs his own missions. It's hard to believe W&H have no idea what's going on with his late night ocean tours, but there //is// that insufficiently bright corner of the sky we're about to rectify.

Incidentally, Lilah telling Gavin to clear away Linwood's head was nice payback for "Billy." And this is the first and last instance, I believe, of a Senior Partner being named.

If it was gonna happen in any season ...

This ended very well. Months of searching coming to an end. Wes coming forth and helping out. Angel confronting Connor about what he'd done. All's right with the world ...

Well no, actually. Wes, still pretty dark, slinks off. Gunn and Fred are both still a little messed up from Connor attacking them and they're //reeling// from months of his lies. Angel's still deep in recovery mode, Connor is banished (better than he deserves. Oh, incidentally, world's strongest boy + world's most rickety chair = not restrained). Lorne is exiled, and Cordy ...

    Well ...

    As for Cordy ...

    "I am so bored."

JASMINE WATCH: I don't believe she's latched onto Cordy as yet. That seemed like Cordy up there -- 9/10 certainty. :)
  • for some odd reason one of my faveorite episodes

    10
    "Perfect"
I dont know why but this is one of my favorite episodes. it really made me not like connor at all because he put angel in the bottom of the ocean and then did all he oculd to keep anyone from finding out where he was. nad it also showed another side of wesley i think. a great ep.
  • In last season, connor put Angel in the sea and gang didn't know that, in this episoide the gang are looking for Angel, it's wesley who finds him.

    6.0
    "Fair"
Well this episoide was really strange to watch, Angel hullusation were really amusing but that was so strange to watch. The fact that Angel wanted a normal family gathering, he's a vampire how can thing ever be normal?.

Wesley, well he is still screwing Liah, it's kind of strange seeing that but i don't blame him, everyone need companionship sometime . However despite what happend in pervious season about kidnapping Angel son, he still consideres Angel a good friend. I really like how he uses Justin and captures her and locks her in closet. Boy, has wesley lost his mind or what. i'm liking rough-new wesley to be honest. i so glad he chacter has developed

I really like the ending as well with Angel giving Connor a talk, that was fantastic, even though he was weak he gave a lecture.

This wasn't a great season-opener but it was definatly watchable.
