    Kinky dinky:
How gorgeous are CCs friends, especially Sarina? Obviously this goes some VERY dark places, it smacks of GOT fetishism (beautiful women being raped and impregnated by demons/monsters/aliens who they then fall in love with), the ultrasound reminds me of the infamous maternity ward scene in Aliens vs Predator; Requiem (of course Joss wrote Alien Ressurection so he's no stranger to the concept). Considering that Joss is supposed to be this great pro-feminist he puts his heroines through a lot of nasty stuff, almost like he wants to have his cake and eat it. Wilson apparently nearly had phonesex with the resteraunt manager to get them in. Cordy drinks Angel's pig's blood, Angel states he never realised how disgusting it was until just then. At the end Cordy states she's learned sex is bad and men are evil. Angel agrees.

    Captain Subtext;
The girls assume Wes and Angel are a couple. Angel says it adds mystery. Angel describes Cordy as family and she says she trusts him and Wes implicitly.

    Questions and observations;
Fun story, putting Angel Investigations together more and more. How wonderful that when Wes has to come up with a name for him and Cordy he decides on Mr and Mrs Penborne. Angel comments that their French client made him want to drink a lot. Alcohol or blood? CC refers to Angel giving her date the 3rd degree which he and Doyle also did in the Bachelor Party. Wes refers to David and Goliath, the Watchers Council occasionally make biblical references.

‘Expecting’ is yet another excellent episode of Angel with comedy, drama and just crazy fun and good special effects. It’s also the second Cordelia-centric episode is close to be as good as the first.

This episode features Cordy dating, going out on a date but before that two of her friends come to the office and meet Angels and geeky Wesley who tries to impress them by hitting his axe in the wall. Wes really proves to be a good and fun character in this episode, his chemistry with Angel isn’t as good as with Doyle but still has definitely a couple of points, mostly because Cordy’s friends thought they were gay. Also when they go out hunting they walk into the wrong house and Wesley does that geeky thing which makes him funny.

Meanwhile Cordy gets seduced by a guy and she takes him over to her apartment and sleeps with him which wasn’t a good thing because she was pregnant the next morning. She looked a lot more than one day pregnant. I absolutely adored the hospital scenes which were hilarious how she and Wes played to be a couple and Cordy did the heavy-hormoned mom. They also discover that Cordy has 7 offspring things in her stomach, she just hopes they’re healthy.

Meanwhile Angel finds Serena who is Cordy’s friend pregnant as well. He goes after the guys who impregnate the women and they all turned out to be human and working for some demon who makes them rich and powerful and they impregnate women with the demon’s spawn.

Cordy is also staring to get more hormoned, she drinks Angel’s blood and when Wes begins to talk about destroying her offspring she gets mad and hits him with a book and goes to the sewers.

In the sewers there are a lot of other impregnate women and they are all going to have a baby shower, literally.

Wes goes there to save them but then is disrupted by the big demon who wants to eat him but Wes knows the story about David and Goliath so he isn’t afraid. Angel then comes to play with and he throws something with ice to the demon and it freezes him making all the women loose their babies. Cordy then grabs something and throws it on the demon making it burst into pieces, Cordy really hates dating.

‘Expecting’ developed Cordy in a way to become more family of Angel and Wes, she now trusts them with her entire life and Angel even called her family. The episode also had a lot of hilarious moments and I also enjoyed Dennis quite a lot.

  • Possess Me Baby One More Time

    5.5
    "Mediocre"
I'm usually a sucker for Cordelia-centric episodes but even I couldn't get into this one, which is essentially a pseudo-Rosemary's Baby storyline blended in with an "after-school special"-esque message of "have sex and suffer the evil, demonic consequences", which has been used to death in the Buffyverse.

Expecting sees Cordelia sleeping with somebody on the first date. The next morning, he's gone and she's pregnant. And not just a couple of hours pregnant, I mean about two-hundred months pregnant. Whilst Cordelia goes into mental breakdown, Angel and Wesley attempt to discover what sort of demon was responsible for Cordy's unwanted spawn.

Despite featuring a scene-stealing performance from Charisma Carpenter and some neat gags involving Wesley's general incompetence, Expecting is a complete mess of an episode. It seemed as if writer Howard Gordon didn't really know what direction he wanted to go in, creating a weird mix of drama, emotion and full-on horror. Because of this, the entire episode feels disjointed. Going from effectively creepy moments like Angel visiting Serena's apartment to Cordelia breaking down at the thought of having a baby, you just don't know where you're at during the course of the hour. Sometimes that's great in TV, but in some cases, like this one, it's just awkward.

The performances in Expecting are probably the best thing about the episode. Both the aforementioned Carpenter and Alexis Denisof excel throughout and it's amazing to see how quickly Denisof has settled in with the cast, almost feeling as if he's been there all along. Daphnee Duplaix also performed well, which is surprising since she's most notable for being one of Playboy's numerous Playmates of the Month. The humor was also really good, in particular the opening scene, with Wesley (being generally neurotic) accidentally hitting a wall with his axe and making a complete ass out of himself when hunting some demon spawn with Angel.

Though it's a pretty decent episode which moves along at a steady pace, there are just too many things wrong with Expecting to let you fully enjoy it. Despite the excellent performances, it just doesn't come together as well as it should have.

  • Slight filler but still good.

    8.0
    "Great"
Even though this episode felt like sort of a filler to integrate Wesley into the group by simply throwing in a demon or ten it was still good. We got to see the family vibe of Angel Investigations return, after the loss of Doyle. And got some very funny moments from Wes, disgusting and kind of scary moments from Cordy, and Angel step a bit out of his brood mode a little bit. That is always a fine treat.
  • cordelia is pregnant

    "Great"
this is the worst cordelia episode but it still rocks!

it's about cordelia having unsave sex with a guy and gets pregnant over the night. this is why everybody has to have save sex!

the episode was funny! wesley was not annoying at all but he was kind of sweet by wanting to save cordelia. angel was awesome for beating those guys who made the girls pregnant and the monster at the end was big!

this is one of the funniest episodes of the show. a classic but not the best.
  • Cordy finds out the hard way that not all guys "respect her in the morning"

    7.3
    "Good"
This ep deals with the fabulous world of dating for Cordy. She ends up going out with a seemingly nice and very good looking man who she even invites in for a nightcap at her apartment. One thing leads to another, and despite the protesting of Dennis..lol, he spends the night. When Cor awakens the next morning, she is alone and very pregnant. Seems Mr Nice guy had some secrets. It is Wes and Angel to the rescue. Wes takes Cor to an OB/GYN for a checkup and seems she is carrying MANY little demons in her belly. Thankfully Angel and Wes are able to take out Demon Daddy and return Cor to normal. It wasnt a great ep but it was funny in parts.
  • Unequipped, lame ass demon imbues losers with his life force, then sends them out to terrorize doxies and the like.

    6.9
    "Fair"
Fun words to learn and know: Wesley: “Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, Rogue Demon Hunter, and I'm here to fight you, sir, to the death...preferably yours.”

Dialogue to lose inside the sofa in Hell: Wilson: “This is a private club, featured word, private.”

Well, that was a nice, fun, light-hearted episode with some good dialogue throughout and there are some really good moments. I particularly enjoyed Wesley’s ineptitude in menacing the elderly “demon spawn” couple in the teaser. Alexis Denisof turns in yet another stellar performance as Wesley Wyndam-Pryce.

One issue I have with it, however, is Wesley’s continuous whingeing about Cordelia’s performance at work. Where does he get off being so judgmental? He turned up on the scene, what, two weeks ago, and suddenly he’s talking about how *lately,* Cordy’s been avoiding her responsibility? See, I stressed the “lately” there because of it’s utter ridiculousness. Again, Wesley’s just shown up in LA, and it’s not as if he and Cordy stayed in touch after leaving Sunnydale. What’s to say her job performance was any better a month ago. Plus, making a small (albeit potentially costly) mistake about what she saw in her vision and being late for work are the only indications we’ve seen of Cordelia’s supposed ineptitude. Is this all Wesley’s basing his accusation on? And if so, can you say harping on the miniscule? Not to mention, given the line of work they’re in, it’s entirely possible something bad happened to her. Having said that, it’s nice to see Wesley overcome his little freak out and rush to Cordy’s aid when he’s needed.

Another problem I have, not with this episode per se, but with the BuffyVerse in general, is the need for the writers to continually portray sex as the highway to Hell. Way to give young people a complex, Mutant Enemy. The shows do eventually break out of this trap, but it takes entirely too long. There is absolutely nothing wrong with portraying a normal, healthy, adult relationship. We don’t need the “Sex is bad! Sex is bad! Sex is bad! ,” message bludgeoned into our skulls all the live long day. We have the President for that.

As for the demon… Was it meant to be some sort of joke? This guy was just about the lamest of the lame. Apart from the drool, he seemed to have some sort of developmental disorder. And I guess the reason he needs to imbue lame ass losers with his life force is that he’s otherwise ill-equipped to deal with women himself? Or unequipped, as the case may be -- the Big Eunuch indeed!
  • Nothing special here, but some nice scenes between Cordy and Wesley. And Cordelia drinks Angel's blood...

    8.5
    "Great"
Definitely not an impressive episode. The story of the demon surrogates impregnating pretty women in LA was nothing special. The only redeeming value of this episode was character development, specifically allowing Wesley to begin to become part of the team, following Doyle's death. Wesley desperately wants to be part of Angel Investigations; he really isn't cut out to be a rogue demon hunter, however much he loves saying it. He needs to be part of a team, to be motivated and not give into his fears. Finally, whether he deserves it or not, Angel brings him along to find the baby demon at the beginning of the episode, and then relies on him to help take care of Cordy while he figures out what impregnated her. The scenes of Wesley and Cordy at the doctor's bring the two of them together to the point where she is beginning to trust and rely on him, even though he still is rather afraid of what they need to face. It's somewhat surprising that at the end when Cordy says the new thing she learned is that she can trust both Wesley and Angel with her life. It has been clear that Angel would always look after her. She really only is learning that she can rely on Wesley too, at least his intention, if not his actions. Maybe he's not brave enough just yet.
  • Don't Expect Much!

    5.4
    "Mediocre"
Expecting-After a wild night on the town, Cordelia wakes up to find that she is at least six months pregnant. When it is found out that it is a demon that Cordelia is carrying can Angel and Wesley find a way to prevent the imminent birth from killing her? For a Cordelia centric episode, this should have been great but is mediorce at best. It seems a little far fecthed on why Cordelia would date and sleep with a guy so fast after losing Doyle not too long ago. The plot just makes Cordelia and her convenient new friends from no where seem a bit slutty. I mean there are some funny moments, like Angel and Wesley and Dennis messing with Cordelia's date but that's it. Charisma gives a good performance with Cordelia's sudden pregnancy and realizing what's growing inside of her. Also the big demon revelation was so anticlimatic because you could obviously tell it's a guy in a suit and the whole giant effect is quite lame. All and All, just an average episode that does nothing interesting.
  • When Cordelia goes out on the town with her friends, an unexpected surprise awaits her in the morning.

    8.5
    "Great"
In the evening time, Wesley stops by to see if there is anything that he could help with. Angel tells him that things are slow and that Cordelia is going out with her friends. When her friends show up, Cordelia has a vision that she sends Angel and Wesley on while she still goes out. The guys destroy the creature that was hatched before it gets unleashed on the city. Elsewhere, Cordelia is having a deep conversation with her new boyfriend. At the end of the night, she asks him to stay the night, though Dennis the ghost protests at first. In the morning, Cordelia wakes to find her stomach has swollen to pregnancy proportions. Angel and Wesley coming calling when she has failed to show up for work and find her still in her bedroom. Angel starts to track down the guy while Wesley takes Cordelia to the doctors. From the ultrasound, they find out that there are seven heartbeats in Cordelia's womb and the two go back to Angel's place so Wesley can investigate. Shortly, Angel finds another of Cordelia's friends and sees she is pregnant as well. Tracking the group of guys to a gun club, he finds out that they are human and are working for a very large demon. Wesley, after being knocked out by Cordelia, says that he will meet Angel at the warehouse where the demon resides. They get there and see all of the women are in a bath awaiting birth. Angel ends up through a cryogenic canister, which the creature catches and Wesley shoots. With the demon frozen, Cordelia and the others revert back to normal.

This was a very good episode, especially the touching mini-speech at the end where Cordelia says she trusts Angel and Wesley completely. Being an episode I never remember watching, it was intriguing to find out exactly what was going on. It is a fun little precursor to the season 4 story arc where Cordelia becomes pregnant with Jasmine. I really like the way Angel and Wesley play off of each other and the way that Wesley continues to try sneaking into Angel Investigations.
  • Big demon gets a bunch of women pregnant

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode focuses mostly on Cordelia. It is very interesting that the women are protecting the demon spawn (under the demons spell). It was a classic quote when Angel said "I really don't like it when people shoot me", and proceeded to open up a can of whoop @$$. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce was very funny in this episode. The scene in the beginning with the ax was great. He seems to be mostly comic relief at this point, but does manage to help kill the bad guy.

Cordelia being pregnant with demon spawn was a little over the top, but still made for a good story.
  • Cordelia wakes up 8 months pregnant

    8.7
    "Great"
This was quite the interesting episode with lots of development of Cordy's character not to mention Wesley being just Wesley.

I absolutely loved that Cordy's friends thought that Wesley and Angel were gay It was priceless and that's the only word I could use to describe it! Wesley was so funny when he was trying to impress them and put his axe into the wall by mistake! Cordy's vision giving Angel and Wesley the neighbor's address was so funny I love how Wesley was just going on to the old couple while Angel was trying to signal him to the house with the eggs.

Wesley was an annoying idiot when he was talking about Cordelia lacking in her responsibities. I personally wanted to hit him across the face, but then again he really didn't understand how Cordelia felt about Doyle.

Cordy waking up 8 months pregnant was so amusing, but serious at the same time which I liked. It was nice to see Angel going after thee guy that knocked Cordy up with the demon spawn. I felt bad for Angel after he got shot all those times though.

This was quite the awesome episode mostly due to Wesley being an idiot, but it was good anyway.
  • Cordy wakes up being pregnant.

    8.6
    "Great"
"Expecting" is another entertaining episode of season 1.

After having sex with a guy she hardly knows, Cordy wakes up being pregnant - 8 months pregnant to be exact. Of course she freaks out (who wouldn't), so Angel and Wes have to come to the rescue. It is clear pretty fast that this is no ordinary pregnancy but that a demon presence is somehow involved in this.

While the plot is rather silly, it guarantees a few funny moments with Cordy : Cordy and him at the OBGYN, Cordy drinking blood straight out of Angel's fridge and some more.

Also, I particularly enjoyed the scene where Wes and Angel a taking down a pretty nasty baby demon. Always check if you have the right house for demon slaying.
  • Cordelia wakes up 8 months pregnant.

    7.6
    "Good"
Expecting is one of the weaker episodes of Season One and of Angel as a whole. The plot was quite ridiculous, the characters fell slightly flat (with the exception of Wesley) and the monster of the week looked completely ridiculous and fake. It did have some good points. The scene with Wesley going to the wrong house and screaming at the old people was hilarious. Alexis Denisof is great at comedy and Wesley is the only interesting thing in this episode. Cordelia, usually my favourite character, was extremely boring in this episode. Whilst she was pregnant and stressed she still wasn't given good lines. Angel just sort of stood there and looked mean. As I've said Wesley was good. The overall plot was bad as well. I sense extreme Writer's Block here. The monster also looked unbelievably cheap and it hurts my eyes to look at it. It looked so fake and unnatural I thank God it was only on screen for about 20 seconds.

Expecting is a weak episode and doesn't have much rewatch value. Line of the episode:

Wesley's entire speech at the old couple's house
  • After going out on a date the previous night, Cordelia wakes up to find herself very pregnant. The team investigate who is responsible and how the pregnancy can be stopped.

    8.5
    "Great"
This episode was average in plot, but an excellent one for character development between Angel, Cordy and Wes. We see their bond strengthen during Cordelia's mystical pregnancy, as both Angel and Wes take really good care of her and reassure her the whole time. The chemistry between David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter and Alexis Denisof was really good in this episode, which makes watching this 'filler' episode really worth it.

I feel that this episode really cements Wesley's position in the Angel Investigation team, and through him taken care of Cordy so well he really endears himself to the audience.

Overall, a good episode, that should be watched, if not appreciated, by all Angel fans.

Watch for the clever use of liquid nitrogen.

Expecting was a classic episode of Angel. In this episode we got to see Cordelia getting to live a little, however there are classic consequences to this. I really enjoyed watching this episode and which had a great story. This episode had a lot of growth for Cordelia's character and it was nice to see Wesley as well. I thought this story was LA's version of Reptile Boy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This episode definitely brought the three characters closer together and I can't wait to see what will happen next. Expecting had action, drama, and of course good humor which makes it such a perfect episode of Angel!!!!!!!
