The Good;
Some great acting from Amy Acker as Fred is horrified that Connor has been lost to a portal, just as she was. The little girl in the White Room is a really creepy little moppet.

The Bad;
Gunn and the orderlies seem to overpower Angel at the hospital very easily (although I guess that settles the whole question of Angelus' confrontation with Xander in 'Killed by death'. Thinking back on the cops/security guards in that scene would probably have had tasers which is weapon that seems to affect vamps a lot. Although bullets are no joke to them either)

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Lilah cutting her hand just like Darla, the whole 'women cope better with pain' idea certainly gets a lot of mileage in Joss's shows. Angel meanwhile prepares to stick a needle in Linwood's eye. Angel attempts to smother Wes and is quite prepared to kill Lilah to get his son back. Justine is beaten to a pulp, so much so that even Gunn feels sorry for her. Fred using the hot coals against Sahjhan is pretty damn ruthless.

Questions and observations;
Shouldn't Linwood know who Lorne is? Surely Lorne's concern for humans and disregard for 'slimy demons' is hypocritical. Like any good Watcher Wes keeps comprehensive diaries. Why do people always cut the palm of their hands in films? Surely that's one of the most sensitive parts?
Marks out of 10; 8/10 here comes the emotional pain but it's SUPREMELY well done.

I love "Angel" episodes that show just how far Angel is willing to go to get something done. He really goes all out in this one; first, he kidnaps Linwood from W&H, and forces Lilah to invoke black magic in the hotel to make Sahjhan corporeal, followed by a great fight between Angel and Sahjhan. Excellent all around. The ending scene is one of the best in the series in my opinion. Angel visits Wesley in the hospitalwith everyone, including myself, thinking he is going to make peace with Wesley kidnapping Connor. However, Angel instead takes a pillow and attempts to smother Wesley, while screaming that he'll never forgive him for what he did. This is great acting from David Boreanaz. Just watch the spit flying from his mouth as he screams "You're dead!! Dead!!". Awesome.

Forgiving was a perfect and classic episode of Angel. This episode had a few interesting turn of events. I really enjoyed watching this episode because we were introduced to Wolfram & Hart's conduit to the Senior Partners. I loved the whole white room concept and the conduit was a great idea! I also enjoyed watching Fred and Gunn together looking for evidence by means of good old dumpster diving. Angel was torn and pushing everyone around him to the limit to find a way to get Connor back, and he made some difficult decisions. I can't wait to watch the next episode!!!!!!!

Forgiving is an excellent follow-up to the incredible Sleep Tight and the entire episode deals with the repurcussions of last episode's events and how our characters deal with Wesley missing and Connor lost to the Quor'toth and these consequences are almost as shocking as the events they stem from.



Angel almost reverted back to S2 Angel here- a dark, hollow shell of a man with no other reason to live except vengeance. Angel almost seems to give up on Connor so early on- some small part of him knows that his son is forever lost. He doesn't seem shocked by any of Lorne's words that finding Connor is nigh on impossible- even if he could get into Quor'toth, it was still be next to impossible to rescue his child. Several of his acts here are incredibly shocking- threatening to torture Linwood, about to kill Lilah just to get at Sahjhan and not least his attempting to murder Wesley in the hospital room. However, from some of his actions we can see all is not gone from him- his telling of the car-driver it wasn't his fault he knocked down Sahjhan proves he still cares, however small. I'm extremely glad Sahjhan is effectively dead after this episode- I'm not a fan of his and although his and Angel's fight was brutal, you still never doubted that Angel wouldn't die- there was such a big loss last episode, that another one would be pointless. Even though Sahjhan eventually does reappear for one episode in Season 5, it's a short role and I am definitely not going to miss him the rest of this season. Linwood was proved to be a coward here- he so readily betrayed his job and his very dangerous bosses just to save his own skin. Even Lilah would have put up more of a struggle! Speaking of Lilah, I loved her here- no matter how evil she is I can't help but like her- she's so completely ruthless that it makes her a great character.



Justine has a lot of parallels with Angel here- she has lost the one person she cares about most and has no means of getting him back. However, her situation is worse as she has no one else whereas Angel has friends- Justine is completely alone. She proved she wasn't entirely villainous here and felt remorse for killing Wesley (well at this stage she though she had). Her trapping of Sahjhan is the jar was her shining moment though, ridding us of him and Jack Conley who simply isn't scary.



David Boreanaz put in a stunning performance here and brought Angel's grief and loss to life, making it believable and effective. Amy Acker was excellent too, as was Laurel Holloman. Forgiving is an outstanding episode that shapes our characters into who they become in later seasons. Unmissable.

Forgiving-Wesley lies alone, bleeding to death, and waiting for help which may not come. While Fred and Gunn try to solve the mystery of Wesley's disappearance, Angel searches feverishly for a way to rescue Connor from the Quortoth.



A wonderful follow-up to the events of last episode. Angel is in a very angry mind state and is relentless in getting his son back. This episode is filled with amazing scenes like Angel taking Leenwood hostage and almost torturing him for information. David was amazing this hour as well as the rest of the cast. Also, the use of the dark magics to get his son back brings some stunning special effects! The best part is the finally realizing why Sahjhan mysteriously hates Angel is shocking, not to mention he was behind the whole father kill the son prophecy which was false all along. The fight scene between Angel and Sahjhan is excellent and Justine does the only good thing while on her run on the series by helping defeat Sahjhan. But she was still an annoyance just getting in the way with the rest of the useless avenging humans. But the ending is what makes this episode so powerful as Wesley is in the hospital and Angel goes into an emotional rage and almost sufficates him to death. The whole scene is just so unbelieveable and played flawlessly by the whole cast. You now at this point that the gang won't be the same again and it's dark times from here on out. All and All, a top notch episode with a unforseen ending that makes this episode a true stand out of the series.

Angel goes toward his darker nature to try and either get Connor back, and failing that, to make those responsible pay. He doesn't want to hear the explanation that Fred and Gunn find for Wesley's behavior and he's willing to torture Linwood to get what he needs to find Sahjahn. I love the White Room at W&H where he is able to learn something, but not enough. Meanwhile Justine is questioning whether she did the right thing, she realizes that Holtz had just used her. I found it hard to believe her actions almost from the beginning. She had some doubts but then she decided to go ahead and do whatever Holtz wanted, which did not ring true to me. Finally Sahjahn admits to falsifying the prophecy about the father killing the son in order to save himself from the real prophecy that the son of the vampire would kill Sahjahn. (Ooh Sahjahn, just wait till Season 5!) Justine in the end does the right thing and puts Sahjahn back in his jar and also helps them find Wesley, still barely alive. Again, there's the twist: I think Angel's going to listen to Lorne's advice and forgive Wesley, but instead he tries to smother him in the hospital. I can certainly understand his feelings, but what didn't make sense to me was how Angel seemed like everything was going to be OK when he first starts speaking with Wesley. I don't think he could have held his temper like that, I think he would have just gone in there in a rage. But if he really wanted Wesley dead, Wesley would be dead.

We pick up from the last episode. Wes lays dying in the park and Angel is staring at an empty baby bed. Fred and Gunn are having a hard time processing that Wes double crossed them, but Lorne informs them that yes he most certainly did. Angel goes for blood. He kidnaps Linwood and threatens torture to get him to help get Connor back. He finds out that there is no getting Connor back, but he gets to visit the White Room and is given information on how to make Sahjahn solid. Angel is ready for payback. Fred and Gunn find Wesleys notes and find out about the prophecy. By episodes end they find Wes and Angel comes to visit him at the hospital. He tells Wes he understands what he did, but he will never forgive him and tries to smother him while assuring him "You're a DEAD MAN" Angel isnt going to forgive Wes for a long time to come. Awesome episode and really pivotal for Wesleys character.

The episode was AWESOME. Angel searches for Wesley, Gunn and Fred are trying to find him before Angel does. In the end though, right when you thought Angel had forgiven Wesley, Angel attempts to kill him. Between the slobber coming from his mouth.. and...well, it was great. Just shut up and go download.....ahem... I mean, buy the movie.

the end of this fantastic wesley arc where angel goes darker than ever before.



angel is trying to bring back his son but sees it is poitnless he wants to eliminate the ones that made it happen starting with sajan by making him have a body. with that he puts his friends in danger as sajan tries to kill fred and gunn. i never liked justine but she came through in this episode by putting sajan in the bottle and now he is trapped.



the end is one of the most awe ends i have ever seen as angel tries to kill his friend that was found almost dead. poor wesley! but he did deserve it. not death but just the pillow.

Forgiving



This episode was a little too much. I was missing Cordy like hell as well. but it's still a pretty cool episode. flashbacks and we learn about why Sahjhan was into all those things. Justine goes to the better side and saves everyone. and Angel tries to kill Wesley. all good things. don't forget about the white room!



cut to Angel in his home looking at the place where his child was. cut to Fred and Gunn in Wesley's home searching through the place. they can't find anything and Fred says that Wesley wouldn’t do this and that they need to find his diaries. they go out and Fred keeps calling him and they leave. cut to his phone and Wesley is lying close to it with his throat cut. cut to Justine going to her guys and she says that captain Holtz escaped and she's the new boss and he ordered her to kill Angelus.



the credits start



cut to Lorne telling Fred and Gunn about the baby and they can't believe it. specially Fred thinks it's horrible because it was through a portal. Lorne says again that Wes was going and wasn't planning on coming back. then comes Angel and he says that everyone who's responsible will pay and that he's going in the portal but they need someone to open it. Angel says they don't need Wes. first they need to find the person who's behind all that. Sahjhan. cut to Lindwood going into Lilah's office and he knows what has happened and Lilah explains and that Holtz went with the baby in the portal and Lindwood isn't to happy. cut to Angel, Fred and Gunn trying to find stuff. but they all can't and Fred calls Cordy but Angel tells her not to cause they'll find Connor. he says it isn't working and leaves and they leave to find Wes.



cut to someone who lives in the street finding Wesley. he steels his money and puts him behind some place. cut to Lorne coming back and tells Angel bad new and that it wasn't a portal but a rip through reality and that Quer-Toth is really big and it's some sort of hell and he follows Angel to a room where he has Lindwood and he's gonna torture him. Lindwood says that when they find out Angel finishes it that they're kill him first. Angel is gonna torture him and Lindwood makes him call and tells Lilah to give him anything he wants. cut to Gunn and Fred going to Justine. they ask for Wes and she says she doesn’t know. they see that she doesn't know what happy is either and realise that Holtz was for her like a father or more. then they get attacked and almost get Gunn killed but Justine tells her boys to let them go and they leave.



cut to Angel and Lilah going into the white room. when they arrive they see this little girl and she knows what they want and tells about Sahjhan and what he used to be. they used to bring lots of chaos and she says she likes destruction but hates chaos and that's why they were made them that way and they can catch them in an urn but Angel wants to kill him so she gives him a spell to how. cut to Fred and Gunn and she jumps in the dumpster for his diaries and then they read them and they find the prophecy and Fred is happy because he had a reason to but Gunn isn't sure if Angel is gonna forgive him and she says Angel could start to forgive.



cut to Angel doing the ritual and Lorne isn't to glad about it and they need human blood and Lilah cuts herself and then something arrives but t disappears and turns out in the street and a car crashes into him and Sahjhan stands up 'now this is more like it'. cut to Angel throwing Lindwoord down the stairs cause Lilah says about Sahjhan and he has to go after him and Fred and Gunn arrive and tell Angel about the prophecy but he says it's not true and he's very mad and leaves and Gunn tells her to stay because if he lays a finger on her he has to kill him. cut to Angel going outside and he gets attacked by Justine and her boys and Angel hits them all and Justine attacks him but he throws her on the ground and leaves. Fred and Gunn go outside and see it happen and Justine drives away in Wesley's car and they're gonna follow her.



cut to Angel going to the crime scene and a guy says it's his fault but Angel realised what he did and he says it isn't. cut to Justine going to the place where she met Holtz and then comes Fred and Gunn and she says it was all lies and they ask about Wes and she doesn't know and says she slit his throat and Fred hits her and they start to fight. she says she trusted the wrong man and then walks Sahjhan in. it's his home and he remembers Justine and he knocks her down. he wants to brake some skulls but then comes Angel in and Justine walks away. Sahjhan tells him about the prophecy. he wrote it and he did it cause the son of the two vampires was gonna kill him. he wanted to kill the baby before it was born. Angel attacks them and they fight. Sahjhan is too strong but then comes Justine and she opens the urn and Sahjhan goes in it. then she tells them about where she left Wesley.



cut to Angel and Lorne and Lorne is worried about what is going to happen and then someone calls them and Lorne answers the phone. he tells Angel they found Wesley. Angel goes to the hospital and Fred and Gunn say that Wes will like it and that he’s still not out of the woods. Angel goes inside and sees Wesley and tells him that he understand why he did it and that it's him. Angel. and then he grabs a pillow and wants to kill Wesley. everyone comes to take Angel out and he screams that he will ever forgive him and that he's a dead man and that he will kill him and Wesley is fighting to stay alive.

Angel: No. We're going to find the His name's SahJhan. He's some kind of interdimensional demon. And he's been behind all this since the beginning.



Angel: What are you doing?

Fred: Calling Cordelia?

Angel: Why?

Angel: We're not going to ruin Cordelia's holiday.

Fred: Angel... Don't you think she'd want us to call? Shouldn't we tell her what happened? Maybe she could help...

Angel: She'll be back soon... and when she does she'll... she'll have presents. For Connor. And he's gonna be here so she can give them to him. Okay?

not all. The portal you saw opened -- it wasn't a portal. Because there are no portals to Quor-toth. The only way in is to rip right through the fabric of reality. This isn't a matter of finding an interdimensional hotspot, or conjuring an opening with a simple incantation. To punch through to Quor-toth would require dark, dark magicks, the kinda power it takes centuries to build. Angel. I know this isn't easy for you, but you have to hear it. Even if you somehow managed to get in, finding Connor would be like looking for a needle in a haystack the size of China. A beat, as Angel seems to be considering this. Then --

Angel: Needles. I shoulda thought of that.

Lorne: We just don't have the -- resources to conjure up that much dark power --

Gunn: You should get a yard dog or something 'cause anybody could just walk in here off the street.

Justine: Getting in isn't the hard part.

Gunn: Really? That what happened to Wes? -- You and Holtz lured him in, then made sure he couldn't get out?

Justine: He's a big boy. He knew what he was doing.

Fred: So where is he now?

Justine: Why should I care?

Gunn: 'Cause I'm tellin' you to.

Justine: I think it's time for you to go.

Gunn: We're not going anywhere until you tell us what happened to Wes.

Justine: Well... you're half right. About the not goin' part.



Lilah: Kidnapping Linwood, you're really steppin' up to it. And the white room... I mean, they don't just talk

about it. God, the white room. I was here three years before I even heard of it. Did he tell you what was in it?

Lilah: Up. He tell you how to... get there? There was this guy in litigation went to the white room in September. He's in an asylum now... Wow. I should probably hold onto --

Angel: A demon named SahJhan has taken my son.

Girl: Baby's gone. You want SahJhan. He's a Granok, nowadays you can walk right through 'em, but in the past they were something else... They were all about torture and death. You can relate. Well, they caused a lot of trouble. Don't get me wrong, I like trouble -- but I hate chaos. So we changed 'em.

Angel: You made them immaterial.

Girl: Smart boy. Now they watch. And they can no longer touch.

Angel: How do you capture them?

Girl: Well, there's your special urn... But you don't want his essence in a jar. You want someone you can sink your teeth into.

Lilah: That's a yes.

Girl: You know these things always come with a price. Kill her. That's good for now. I can see why they respect you. Now, your demon made flesh. Big ritual, it's all here. Can't wait to see how it turns out. You have a web site?



Fred: Okay, throw me away.

Gunn: You want me to put you in the trash.

Fred: Either he took the diaries with him or he tossed 'em. We're lucky we got here while it's still full.

Gunn: Yeah.

Fred: Ugh... aw god, somebody ate that...?



Gunn: You gettin' anywhere?

Fred: Well, he was meticulous and --

Gunn: Fred. Let's not say "was" until we know for sure...

Fred: No. Right. "Is". He is meticulous, he kept separate diaries for all the major players, Darla, Connor, Angel... and he's frightened.

Gunn: What's he frightened of?

Fred: Not sure yet, pending doom sort of thing in the later entries, some big prophecy he's trying to repudiate... he says here, "it can't be coming, it can't be true"...

Gunn: That's doomy.

Fred: So I guess we're looking for that prophecy, I don't know where it's gonna...

Gunn: I do.

Fred: "The father will kill the son..."

Gunn: Wes thought Angel...

Fred: Was going to kill Connor -- YES, that's the prophecy. Wesley couldn't accept it, he kept trying to disprove it... but the texts and commentaries, everywhere he turned, kept bringing him back to the same place. This is great. I told you he had a reason for taking Connor.

Gunn: Yeah.

Fred: Wesley did the right thing, the only thing he could under the circumstances. We gotta find Angel and tell him right away.

Gunn: And he'll forgive Wesley for taking his son and giving him to his mortal enemy.

Fred: Well... maybe begin to forgive -- what else could Wes do? ...it's right here. "I have to save them both." He had to save Connor from Angel and Angel from doing something unspeakable...

Gunn: Maybe.

Fred: "Maybe"? What would you have done in his place?

Gunn: I'd have come to us first.

Fred: I don't think we should mention that part when we explain it to Angel. And I think once he knows the truth, he'll come around. He's angry, he's hurting, but he's not crazy.



Fred: We need to talk.

Angel: Not now. Fred --

Fred: There's something you need to know before you-- "The father will kill the son"! There was a prophecy in the Nyazian scrolls. Wesley checked the translations, the commentaries, he even went to mystic oracles but he couldn't disprove it.

Gunn: They'd already fed you Connor's blood, bro. You said it yourself, he smelled like food.

Fred: Wesley was trying to protect Connor.

Gunn: He was trying to protect you. Same as we're doin' right now.

Fred: Angel, the prophecy --

Angel: It's a lie. I'd never hurt Connor.

Fred: How can you know that for sure?

Angel: I'd never hurt someone I care about. Now move.

Fred: We have to go after him.

Gunn: We can't. He lays a finger on you, I'll have to kill him myself.



Justine: Don't run off now. The fun's just startin'.

Angel: I'm not your boyfriend. Find somebody else to smack you around.



Gunn: Where's Wes?

Justine: He's not comin' back.

Gunn: What?

Justine: It was all lies. Every bit of it. All he wanted was that kid. To punish Angel. He never cared about anything else.

Gunn: I'm talkin' about Wesley. His car's parked up top here, you obviously took it from him, where is he?

Fred: We just wanna hear his side.

Justine: His side? His side's kinda funny: he sacrificed everything he believed in to save that kid.

Gunn: By helping Holtz take him to hell? I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Justine: Your friend's innocent.

Fred: Is he alive? Where is he? Will you please just tell us.

Justine: Heaven... Hell... I slit his throat.

Gunn: Stay down.

Justine: Um, no. I trusted the wrong man.

Gunn: You're takin' us to him. And he better be alive.

Sahjhan: You call that a fight? Let me show you how we used to do it... So, my home, uninvited guests, this can't end well.

Gunn: This is the guy, right?
