Ok. I will try to convince my husband to take me to see it (For some reason, I don't like going to movies alone). That is, if it's actually showing here. The downside to living in a small town is we don't get some films here.

Well, if you want to see any version of a Buffy/Angel movie, you should support Serenity. If Serenity makes enough money, it could convince most execs that Joss is bankable, and he can be allowed to make whatever movies he want.

That's true. It would help him and I'm all for that.

I just looked it up and it is showing in our one theatre.

I saw Serenity and I've only seen one episode of Firefly. Its great and you don't have to see Firefly to see Serenity.

If you haven't seen Serenity yet, and are terribly concerned about understanding what is going on, you can always go to the Firefly guide on this site, look up the episodes called "Serenity (1)" and "Serenity (2)" and read the recaps. That two-part ep is the actual pilot of the series, and the story introduces all the major characters. Of course it's better to actually see the episode(s) but in the interest of time this makes a pretty decent substitute.

Also, check out the official site for the movie (http://www.serenitymovie.com/) and you can read the character bios there (with pretty, pretty pictures, no less).

That said, I also agree with the others who have posted. You really do not need anything by way of preamble to enjoy this movie. Just remember that there is backstory that you don't know, and trust Joss to tell you what is necessary. And remember Joss' penchant for creating totally cliche characters (the plucky starship mechanic, the vampire with a conscience, the superhero) and then turn those cliche's just a smidge here and a skosh there until they are something new and uniquely Whedonesque. In other words, you'll be able to get a handle on the characters pretty quickly and then you can just watch them blossom.

Then, of course, you should buy the Firefly DVD set, show it to all your friends and family, and drag them all to see Serenity.

    Not, necessarily, in that order.

I have a question about the episode 'Dead End' where Lindsey sings a song called L.A. Song (or Pretty As A Picture), the lyrics of the song seem to describe part of season 4's plot, was this intentional or just a coincidence?

    "Pretty as a picture
She is like a golden dream
Fills me with love and laughter
    And I-I I can't feel a thing

    The skys gonna open
    People gonna pray and crawl

    It's gonna rain down fire
    It's gonna burn us all

    The sky's gonna open
    People gonna pray and sing

    And I can't feel a thing

    Oh, I can't feel."

    Sorry if covered before...

Can't say for sure, but when it comes to plotlines, the words "Joss" and "coincidence" are rarely used in the same sentence.

    Just sayin'...

Thanks so much for the responses. It's nice to know that it won't ruin the show for me and that I'll still understand it even if I haven't seen the show.

I'm going to see it today. I don't want to ruin the show for myself (I plan to buy the DVDs), so I'd rather not read the guide just yet.

You will not regret it. I dragged my Dad out to see Serenity last night, and now he wants to borrow my Firefly set. Not because he needs to know what happened before Serenity for it to make sense, but becase he wants to see more of it

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. They are scheduled arrive in 3 more days. It's difficult to wait, though.

We have a zero-step to the 'verse and a one-step to "Angel" for the entire cast of "Medium" with the appearance of Harry Groener -- Mayor Richard Wilkins III in "Buffy" -- as Joe DuBois' boss.

Patricia Arquette w/ Harry Groener in "Medium."
HG w/ David Boreanaz in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Also, last night I noticed that no less a person than Marti Noxon is an executive producer for "Prison Break." The show is going well, and I'm enjoying the storytelling. So whatever Marti's bringing to the table, well done!

Hi, I'm a new Angel fan, what was I doing all those Wednesday nights, what could have been on that I didn't watch Angel? So now I'm trying to catch up for lost time at 7 a.m. showings. Absolutely love the show, the characters, DB, etc. Haven't seen all the seasons yet, bought them all out on ebay and cannot wait to do my own marathon, maybe then some of it will make more sense to follow. Now I know why they had the campaign.

    Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Yep -- it was quite a show.

    It still is.

    * a little jealous that there's as much "new" as there is for you *

Not that I'm jaded by any stretch. I can't say I've watched the entire series more than once, even tho I've got the DVDs.

It's still fun and I'm still finding new things about it every time I watch it.

If you'd like to participate in the Geek Club, we just finished talking about "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco" from S5. This week we'll be talking about "Lineage."

Otherwise, click around, get comfortable, and welcome to the forum.
