This will be the first home thread for our ambitious year-long Jossverse megathon. Our goal will be to watch all of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly (including the feature film Serenity) over the space of a year. We will be watching approximately 5 episodes every Saturday night and discussing them here. If the conversation becomes too big we may encourage break-out discussions of the episodes in the appropriate show forums. These can be a separate thread for each episode, or one for the whole mini-thon.

The total of 5 episodes per week means that anyone who cannot make the weekend session can easily catch up by watching one episode per night.

We will be publishing a list no later than each Friday of the episodes for that weekend. There will probably be some open discussion of appropriate order during some of the trickier periods of Buffy season 7/Angel season 4.

If you have never seen any of these series, then beg, borrow, or steal the DVDs and join us on a great adventure. If you have seen these shows, then you will simply need no further encouragement. Heck, you'll be watching the episodes anyway, might as well come here and talk about them.

Bring friends, neighbors, countrymen, the more the merrier. The festivities begin this Friday (3/10/06) in honor of the ninth anniversary of the first broadcast and we will endeavor to end next year with a big blowout on the tenth anniversary.

Join us, won't you, gentle viewers, in celebrating a decade of slayage the Joss Whedon way. Grr. Arrgh.

    Ground Rules:

1 - Warn when discussing spoilers! We may have a number of newbies along for the ride, so if you feel compelled to discuss anything from episodes we have not yet seen, offset the comment in ****SPOILER WARNING**** brackets, sufficient to keep the unaware from seeing the comment accidentally.

2 - Follow all rules of the TV.com TOS (or whatever other boards this may spill over onto). This is a no-brainer. If we get kicked off the forum then no more Megathon.

3 - Breakout discussion threads are for discussion of the episodes only. Imagine that these are just like the episode discussion threads for ongoing series. More general discussion about the Megathon should be confined to the main threads which will be located here. If you need to discuss anything too terribly off-topic, try to keep it in PMs or "chat" threads if they are available. Humorous asides are allowed (heck, they're expected) just try not to let them run the thread for too long. This is mainly to keep the non-regulars from feeling too left-out. Side discussions on personal forums are perfectly acceptable. Feel free to share links to these if they are particularly interesting or funny.

4 - Disruptive posters will be asked to leave. Anyone who regularly disrupts the flow of conversation and analysis will be asked to stop. Failure to do so will result in the offending messages being deleted.

5 - Above all else, have fun! These rules are meant to be guidelines. Don't sweat them overmuch as they won't be invoked unless it is really necessary. Enjoy the Megathon and the company. We have some of the best posters in the 'verse right here so pop your corn, cuddle up with your creature of the night of choice, and get ready for some great storytelling and conversation.

And now, the part you've all been waiting for the schedule!

This is just the tentative schedule for the first weekend. A more complete schedule will be worked up later, and may need to be hosted in another location.

To start with, as mentioned previously, on Friday night we will celebrate the ninth anniversary of the first-ever airing of Buffy the Vampire Slayer by watching the first two episodes. We will begin with "Welcome to the Hellmouth" at 9PM Eastern (conversions will follow). We will then view the second part of the two-part pilot, "The Harvest" at approximately 9:55 Eastern. This is approximate and assumes a 45 minute running time and a 10 minute break between episodes. Later the same night, the night crew will watch the same episodes at midnight Eastern and 12:55 Eastern. So the Friday schedule will look like this:

    Friday, 3/10/06:
    1x01 - "Welcome to the Hellmouth" 9E/8C/6P (2AM 3/11 GMT)
    1x02 - "The Harvest" 9:55E/8:55C/6:55P (2:55AM GMT)
    1x01 - "Welcome to the Hellmouth" 12AM E/11C/9P (5AM GMT)
    1x02 - "The Harvest" 12:55E/11:55C/9:55P (5:55 GMT)

Please feel free to join either or both viewings, whichever best suits your schedule.

On Saturday, we'll begin our Megathon in earnest. Starting at 8:00PM Eastern we will watch our next five episodes, again with 10 minute breaks between them. This will work out as follows:

    Saturday, 3/11/06:
    1x03 - "Witch" - 8E/7C/5P (1AM GMT)
    1x04 - "Teacher's Pet" - 8:55E/7:55C/5:55P (1:55 GMT)
    1x05 - "Never Kill a Boy On The First Date" - 9:50E/8:50C/6:50P (2:50 GMT)
    1x06 - "The Pack" - 10:45E/9:45C/7:45P (3:45 GMT)
    1x07 - "Angel" - 11:40E/10:40C/8:40P (4:40 GMT)

The regular Saturday marathon will not repeat later.

A few notes on the schedule:
Episode number - this is two numbers separated by an 'x' with the first number meaning "season" and the second number meaning "episode". Thus "1x05" means "the fifth episode of the first season."

Time - I'll always try to provide the three primary timezones for the US (Mountain was omitted for reasons of space, please take no offense) and Greenwitch Mean Time. Use your closest zone to figure local time.

That's it. Hope to see you at the Megathon!

Greetings all, and welcome to the first ever MEGATHON!

Our first group tonight will begin viewing episode 1 "Welcome to the Hellmouth" in about ten minutes. Main discussion will be in this thread. Are we ready to do the 'thon thing?

I'm all ready to go. I'm so excited.

Enzo and I just watched Out Of Gas and War Stories. Today was the Firefly marathon on SciFi. I forgot about it so I dragged out my dvd and we watched a couple of eps.

    I just love that show.
