    The Good;
Love Angel's pride at 'Our kid, special!", everything else just moves at SUCH a frantic pace

    The Bad;
Fred is introduced to Phantom Dennis but didn't they meet before in That Vision Thing? How non-corporeal is Sahjhan, it seems to vary?

    Best line:
Linwood; "We're going to give you a second chance"
Psychic; (reading him) "No you're not, you're going to have me killed!"
Linwood; (doing just that) "See, why couldn't you come up with insight like that earlier?"

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Killing the psychic with the plastic bag, euuuughhh!

Never got THAT on Party of Five! Which is probably why Buffy/Angel are the most popular series for adult fanfic ever. Gavin is quite the voyeur. It seems that everyone knows about Marcus/Lilah on the desktop. Angel remarks to Darla that she likes pain. Linwood dumped his wife for a younger model (perhaps literally?).

The title is derived from the term when a pregnant mother feels her child move inside her for the first time (rather puts a different perspective on 'Highlander' huh?). • Quickening

    10
    "Perfect"
Quickening was a perfect and classic episode of Angel because it blends the past with the future in a very entertaining way. There was lots of character development in this episode as well as action, drama and intrigue. I really enjoyed watching this episode because it had a great story and lays the foundation for the rest of the season. This episode introduces us to a Demon who has it out for Angel and Darla though we don't know why as of yet. I thought it was interesting to see Wolfram & Hart caught off guard by the events in this episode. I can't wait to find out what happens next!!!!!!!
  • Oh Boy, It's A Boy!

    7.9
    "Good"
Quickening-Angel must do everything in his power to protect Darla and their unborn child when Wolfram & Hart launches a full-scale attack to take mother and baby. To make matters worse, the gang is also threatened by a vampire cult who believe the baby is The Miracle Child.

A drop down for The Miracle child arc but continues to intrigue just as Wolfram and Hart gets involved. It's shocking to know they've been watching the whole gang in the hotel for a while now. The best part is when we finally find out that the baby is human and is a boy. Also the vampire cult was great with their banter about ripping out the baby and eating Darla's eyes balls which forces her to fight. Although the Sahjin and Holts scenes dragged with him catching him up to the 21st century. Also it's hard to believe Holtz from the 18th century could defeat a bunch of Wolfarm and Hart soldiers who have guns. I mean his just a human, and I doubt his fighting skills could be that impressive when his needs minions to fight his enemies! The flashback scenes are good and the one where Holtz kills his vamped out daughter brings some stunning special affects. All and All, a good episode that continues to Miracle Child arc off well, but the Holtz arc just gets in the way.
  • Darla goes into labour.

    8.9
    "Great"
Quickening is a great episode that's slow at times and is ultimately the worst episode in the Pregnant Darla arc, but nonetheless is interesting and informative.

The episode begins well with Angelus and Darla tracking down and killing Holtz's family in the 18th century in England. I felt for Holtz here and I could definitely see why he hates Darla and Angel so much for- they destroyed everything in his life, leaving him a hollow shell with nothing but vengeance in his heart. I really got a feel for Darla and Angelus' evil here and this episode shows their cruelty and terror here. Flashback episodes are always good and here I felt they were the highlight. The scene following after with Darla asking "Do you want to do it or will I?" was chilling and makes us fear for Angel's unborn child, as Darla clearly believes that once it's out of her she's going to kill it.

This episode is very slow at times, especially the present day Holtz plot which at the moment I don't care for. I like Holtz as a character but as a villain he does very little for me. He's merely human so it's unlikely he'll kill Angel. Sahjhan should have been better but IMO he's a terrible villain, striking fear in no-one's heart. He's incorporeal. His motives aren't made clear. And Jack Conley can't act a good villain. He says everything in one voice. He has absolutely no presence. He has no mystery. He just bores me when he's on screen. I really wish they could have got a better actor with a good, spine tingling voice and have them hooded- then maybe Sahjhan would be interesting.

Aside from that, the Darla scenes were excellent and made for much better viewing than the Holtz storyline. She had some great, funny lines here and the Cordelia "You want me to protect the vampire bitca that bit me and her evil love child?" scene was classic and made me laugh out loud. Fred was also hilarious here and every episode I see of her, I love her even more and I've watched Angel 3 times already! She's just so adorable and innocent and a joy to watch. The Wolfram and Hart scenes made for better suspense than the Holtz ones also and Lilah was brilliant as always. Gavin is incredibly annoying and it's a love to hate him thing. While I'm not a huge fan of Linwood, at least he made for a decent villain. I would have preferred Wolfram and Hart making the main villain against Darla and the baby rather than Holtz as they're undoubtedly far scarier, as we know what they can do from last season. Quickening is a slow episode that has some excellent scenes and sets up next week's amazing episode Lullaby nicely. It shouldn't be missed due to the important plot points but it's definitely not the most rewatchable episode of Angel.
  • Behold, the miracle child.

    "Great"
In this episode we find out that Darla and Angel are having a boy, a human child. And I for one was so not expecting that. After weeks of wondering and seriously odd things surrounding Darla's pregnancy I just was not expecting something normal. Though I suppose a child born to two vampires is not normal in the least. Though it's clear that they are having a baby boy what isn't clear is how much trouble they are going to run into simply because Darla is pregnant. Crazy ninja guys, a vampire cult, Wolfram & Hart, and very possibly Holtz all have a vested interest in the pregnanacy and they all seem to have their own plans on what to do with it. Unfortunately none of that really seems to make a difference, the episode ending with Darla going into labor.
  • The Miracle Child

    9.1
    "Superb"
Everyone is closing in on Angel and the crew as they race to protect Angels unborn child. W&H has found out about pregnant Darla thanks to Gavin planting bugs around the hotel. They are all eager to get their hands on the unborn baby and find out what it means, as a vampire birth is unprecedented. This was a great episode, especially when we find out the baby is indeed human and is also a boy. Angel is already very protective of his unborn child and you can tell that it is something he always wanted but never dared dream of having. Very solid episode!
  • darla cant have the baby

    9.3
    "Superb"
better than the last episode. darla is getting desperate with her baby and wants to get it quickly now that everyone wants to take it out of her

its sad for the baby because he isnt born yet and everyone wants him already. in this episode we learn about sahjan and holtz more and how darla and angelus killed holtz family and why they want revenge by killing the two vampires,. the episode was exiting and the end was hilarious when darla began to have the contractions poor darla!
  • It's like the writers didn't know how to fill this episode and made up some very useless stuff like the chicken doctor and the ninja. but by ignoring that this episode was really good. flashbacks and all the scenes with Darla. awesome episode.

    Quickening

The second of this three parter. quite better than the first. specially the flashbacks and the Sahjhan/Holtz scenes. also lots of Darla and she's now even funnier. only thing I didn't like about this episode was that annoying Lindwood and some very useless stuff like that chicken doctor of the ninja and those vampires.

cut back in time. Holtz is riding with his friends to kill Darla and Angelus while they go to a home and a girl lets them in. inside they kill her and the mother and there is still a baby and they decide to send it to his mother. cut to Holtz going in the place he thought they were but finds a letter that they're at his home and when he arrives she finds his family dead. cut to Angel going to Darla and he puts his hand on her tummy and she does the same 'Are you gonna be the one to do it...or am I'?

    the credits start

cut to Htz watching everything that happened on tv. Sahjhan is there and tells him a bit. Holtz doesn't get why Darla and Angelus aren't dead yet but Sahjhan says that their fate is with him. and Holtz wants to go now but Sahjhan won't let him cause he would mess it up and leaves Holtz watching more. cut to the room where Angel and Darla discuss what they did to each other. then come the rest and they want to kill the boy but Angel doesn't want to until they know what's going on. Darla has tried but something is protecting it. then Cordy hits her and she's in to help her but Darla starts to have contractions.

cut to Lilah in the office then a guy Cyril comes in and he says he is gonna chose her side instead of Gavin's and gives her a tape from when she did it with Angel. she's mad and finds Gavin's place. he put camera's through Angel's hotel. then there is a pregnant woman and Lila asks them to show her and it turns out to be Darla and Lilah then calls Lindwood. cut to Darla still having the contractions and they won't stop. she wants it out. they have to do something and they can go to the hospital and they just need the equipment of the hospital to examinate Darla.

cut to Wolfram & Heart. Lilah and Gavin are walking with their boss Lindwood. there is no way they could have foreseen this happening and Cyril is listening to everything. cut to him later calling his master and he says that the thing that was going to happen has happened and they have to tell the others. cut to Holtz, Sahjhan appears there and then he asks Holtz to come 200 years into the future cause or else he will never confront them and die as a bitter old man. Holtz doesn't really trust him but he realises it's his only chance.

cut to the hospital and Darla says that it stopped. they touch it and Wes says that it could have been false but Darla wants to cut it out. then comes Fred and Gunn with some equipment and see what's inside of her. cut to Sahjhan going to Holtz and he wants to kill them but Sahjhan says it's not that simple. Holtz can't touch him and he says if he could he would have killed the vampires himself. then Sahjhan puts on his street face cause they're going out.

cut to the office again. Lindwood wants to have the baby and there is a prophecy about a vampire birth but that one got lost and then Lindwood says he'll blame Lilah cause she was there when Darla got resurrected. Gavin laughs but Lilah calls someone. cut to a Ninja getting called by Lilah. cut to Darla then and they watch what's inside of her and it's a normal boy a human. and Angel is very proud but then Fred says they're surrounded by vampires and they call it the miracle child.

cut to Sahjhan and Holtz getting to the place but the men are just demons and Holtz isn't to pleased with them and asks if there other surprises. cut to the place and the a ninja storms in and the vampires kill them and they they say to kill the humans to give it to Darla and Darla likes that plan. cut to the office where a doctor comes in and says he looks forward to dissect the mother and the child. cut back to the place and Darla doesn't wanna fight but they say that after feeding her they will slice her open and then suddenly she wan fight. Fred says she will kill the baby but they hear that they can't hurt the baby so they all start to fight and they all fight and then they go away.

cut to Angel's office and that weird doctor with some guys go over there and they have the cages. cut to Angel in the car and Darla is disappointed the vampires didn't kill them. they Wes says they need to go back and grab the scrolls and Angel will just a quick stop. cut to the office where the lawyers are watching that Holtz went into the apartment and Lindwood wants them to kill Holtz but then they can't see anything and they think everyone is now dead. cut to the gang arriving in an alley and Angel goes quickly into the office and the gang remains and he says if he isn't back in 5 minutes they have to leave. Angel enters and finds all those people dead and Holtz is waiting for him. then cut to the car and they want to leave but then suddenly Darla's water brakes and she screams. it's for real now.

    Black Out

    ----------

    Best episode quotes:

Holtz: What of England? Has it survived the years and destruction?

Sahjhan: Yes. - It went through a rough patch about sixty years ago, but it's mostly unchanged. Warm beer, boiled meat, bad teeth. That's why I moved to LA. - Have you followed this part of the history? American Revolution, manifest destiny, westward expansion, the Beach Boys?

Darla: You figure out a way to do it?

Angel: No. I was thinking about the last time you were here.

Darla: Mmm - that. Kind of hard to forget.

Angel: I know. I've tried. Hey, you're the one that came in here all 'the world is a cold and lonely place.'

Angel: I had a bad day.

Darla: So, you threw me through those glass doors, slammed me against the wall, pushed me onto the bed and took what you wanted.

Angel: It seemed like the thing to do - at the time. Come in.

Wesley: Sorry to intrude. We had a bit of a breakthrough with the Nyazian Scroll translation. I thought you should know.

Fred: It turns out that some of the irregular verbs Wes was using were problematic when converted to Ga-shundi because of the Nyazian trick of converting both nouns and verbs, which he discovered by... - Sorry. I'll shut up now so he can tell you what he figured out.

Wes: The Tro-clan isn't a person or persons. It's a confluence of events.

Cordelia: Which means it not only involves you, Darla and the child, but other horrible things we don't know about.

Angel: That... That's good. Right? I mean, doesn't that mean that the kid isn't this evil, apocalyptic thing that we feared?

Wesley: Not necessarily. There are a few Nyazian phrases related specifically to the thing being born that I haven't been able to complete.

Angel: So it's important that you so.

Gunn: Because we need to know what kind of bun is in the oven.

Darla: I know one thing about it. Something's protecting it.

Fred: How do you know that?

Darla: Because I can't get rid of it.

    Fred: Sorry I asked.

Gunn: So you're saying, if I shot this into your stomach, it wouldn't do anything?

    Darla: Fire away.

Angel: No one is firing anything.

Wesley: Angel's right. Clearly something wants this thing to come to term. - We'll wait for it to be born then we'll chop its head off.

Fred: Well, what if it doesn't have a head?

Cordelia: We're gonna need a really big mallet.

Gunn: If it skitters, we should have a net or something. Maybe a flame thrower.

Angel: Flame thrower? No, no. There'll be no throwing of flames. Nobody's gonna do anything until we know exactly what's going on. Now, if anybody has a problem with that they should leave - now. Not you. Come on, guys. How about it? Cordy?

Cordelia: You want me to protect the vampire bitch who bit me and her evil love child? [punches Darla] Okay, I'm in. Oh, come on, tough girl. You're a vampire.. A punch in the nose shouldn't hurt that much.

Fred: Not ow her nose. She's having contractions.

    Cyril: Good morning, Miss Morgan.

Lilah: Morning. Would you take this to Pinderhook down in demon resources for me?

Cyril: Sure. - Uh... - Miss Morgan, I hate to bother you. But I've been admiring you for quite a while and I was wondering...

Lilah: Don't flatter yourself, Cyril. I don't date guys from the mail room.

    Cyril: Me neither!

Lilah: You little weasel! If you think you can blackmail your way onto me on my desk...

Cyril: No! That's not it! You got it all wrong. I respect you way too much to be attracted to you.

Angel: How long since the last contraction?

Fred: About twenty minutes. They're still real irregular.

    Darla: Something's wrong. The pain...

    Angel: You like pain.

Darla: This is different. I want it out - now!

Holtz: Another step and it'll be your last. If you've come for anything other than a fight, you're in the wrong place.

Sahjhan: A fight's exactly what I'm looking for.

Holtz: Be a man and who your face.

Sahjhan: I'm not a man. - What I mean is...But clearly masculine. You get that, right?

Holtz: You'll get more than a fight if you don't leave right now.

Sahjhan: Fine. My mistake. - I just thought you might want help killing Angelus and Darla.

Holtz: I don't need your help. I'll kill them myself.

Sahjhan: Not to rain on your parade - but, no, you won't. You'll die a bitter old man and never see them again.

    Holtz: You don't know that.

Sahjhan: I kinda do. In fact I know that it'll be another two hundred years before you get another chance to confront either Angelus or Darla.

Holtz: And is this the part of the tale where the demon offers the broken man the chance to change all that?

Sahjhan: I'll take you to them. Two centuries into the future.

Holtz: Through black magic and sorcery.

Sahjhan: No. On a mule cart. Of course through black magic and sorcery. I'm a demon.

Holtz: And what do you want from me?

Sahjhan: Your word. I want your word that when the time comes you will show them no mercy. I don't mean to be pushy, but this is a limited time offer. Say yes, and I'll take you to them this very hour. Say no - and realize the one chance to avenge what they did to your wife and children has slipped away - forever.

    Angel: How are you feeling?

Darla: I haven't had blood in almost a day, and your devil spawn is trying to rip its way out of my body. How do you think I'm doing?

Bald: I can't apologize enough, sir.

Linwood: You're right. You can't. But I'm not without compassion. I'm gonna give you a chance to save your job - and your skin.

Bald: No, you're not. - You're gonna have me killed.

Linwood: Now, why couldn't you have had that kind of foresight when we needed it?

Linwood: If the Partners are looking to place blame, I'm gonna have to step forward.

    Lilah: That's inspiring, sir.

Linwood: Yes, I'll step forward and blame you. Darla was resurrected on your watch. I can think of no better scapegoat.

    Cordelia: I see it.

    Darla: My little parasite.

    Wesley: Oh, my...

    Angel: What is it?

    Wesley: It's - it's human.

Gunn: Human as is in humanoid? As in cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers?

Wesley: No - human as in - a boy.

    Angel: Boy?

    Wesley: A boy. A boy. You're carrying a boy.

    Darla: Great.

Angel: Gonna have a son. I'm gonna have a son.

Fred: Guys. As fascinating as an ultra-sound image of an unborn child may appear...

Angel: Me. A father. To a son. You know what that means?

    Fred: We're surrounded by vampires?

    Angel: What do you want?

Vampire: To protect the miracle child.

Angel: Protect? Ah, that's good. We're all here for the same thing.

Vampire: As it has been prophesied - by our great potentate Ul-thar, we vow our lives to protect this - special child.

Angel: You hear that? Our kid. Special.

Vampire: Now let us kill the humans so we may use their blood to nourish the mother - and her miracle child.

Darla: Guess I'm getting dinner after all.

Angel: Darla, you might wanna join the fight.

Darla: Sorry, darling. I'm gonna have to be Switzerland and sit this one out. Now, you did say you were just gonna kill the humans, right?

Vampire: Yes, just the humans. Then we will nourish you, slice you open, wear your entrails as a belt and consume your eyeballs before we worship the miracle child.

    Darla: Okay. I'm in.

Angel: Gunn, you and I can hold them off for as long as we can. The rest of you, get Darla to the car.

Darla: Oh, I'd rather stay and fight. Show these youngsters a thing or two about real carnage.

Angel: That's thoughtful, but, you know, you should go.

Fred: Charles, do you have an extra dagger I could borrow?

    Gunn: This okay?

    Fred: Perfect.

Angel: No my count of three. One, two...

Fred: You freaks make one move and I'll slice the miracle kid into triplets.

Cordelia: It's always the quiet ones.

Angel: Darla? - Darla, everything okay?

    Darla: Yeah. Fine.

    Wesley: You all right?

    Darla: It's nothing!

Angel: It's the kid, isn't it? Seeing him on the monitor.

Darla: No, I'm just disappointed that the vamp cult didn't kill all of you guys.

    Wesley: Actually...

Cordelia: God! I hate it when you say that word! 'Actually' means that your oversized gi-normous brain thought of something that the rest of us failed to consider, right?

    Gunn: He said five minutes!

Cordelia: It's been six and a half.

Darla: It's so typical of him.

Fred: It probably wouldn't hurt to wait another minute, right? I mean, what's the worst thing that could happen in another minute? Ask a stupid question...

Wesley: Her water's broken. This is for real. There should be a blanket in the trunk.

Cordelia: What are we gonna do? Deliver the kid right here? Shouldn't we go somewhere?

    Fred: What's keeping Angel?
