  • A truly delightful companion to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The supporting cast is top-notch.

I never watched Angel when it was on the air (living in no-man's land, I had no WB) but I am a rabid Buffy fan. As soon as the DVDs came out, I bought the first season, and have been hooked ever since. Season five is my favorite (mostly because James Marsters NEEDS to call me) but the entire run is awesome. I never fully appreciated the character of Angel when he was on Buffy. David Boreanaz gives so much depth to the character, and the supporting cast is amazing. Cordelia and Wesley take on a whole new life on Angel. How nice to see actors take small supporting roles without a lot of meat, and turn them into people you want to watch more and more of! This is a great companion to Buffy because it is darker, and more action-packed, but it has the same zippy dialogue and warm heart. If you think Buffy is a bit too fluffy, watch Angel. Or if you're me, watch both- all 12 seasons- over and over and over again until your husband threatens to leave you for severe Buffy/Angel obsession. What a way to go!
  • This show was really amazing, I think that even until the end this show was underrated by the wb which made the huge mistake of cancelling it I cannot believe the show was canceled but all in all it ended out with a bang and

This show is one of the few that really never got what it should have got, I think it should have lasted at least one more season

but the show itself up until the end was amazing I love to watch the show im glad that they are released on dvd,

I really would Love to see a continuation of the characters just to see what's going on with them

Well not much else to say but I just love the show and miss it even today.
  • BRING IT BACK I'm begging

Man this show was one of ny favorites. I mean whos ever heard of a vampire with a soul and his name is Angel no less. The last show was brilliant with them fighting that army of demons it was bizarre. It pissed me off when they just cut the show off before you could see what happens though. I hated to see it go.Please bring it back.
  • A great show taken off the air prematurely, Angel is a dark crowd-pleaser that stands out in the modern world of bland TV.

Spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel pleased me more than I thought it could. It took a totally different angle and is written much more darkly, but still is a fantastic show of the 21st century.

Set in LA, it tells of the vampire with a soul, Angel, searching for redemption, and what we find out later could be the ticket to his humanity. Supported by an excellent cast and wide range of characters, Angel really found its place in my heart.

The seasons developed excellently, and unlike its sister show, I can't really criticise any of the whole seasons (perhaps 4, but that has its great highlights), although some of the individual episodes have proven forgettable. For me, the best season was its last, when they took over the evil law firm Wolfram and Hart, and tackled Evil in a whole new way. It was wonderfully done by the writers, and I was very sad to see it go so early.

The show took some risky turns (I won't mention them here in case people haven't seen them yet) but at the end of the day, everything worked really well for them. My favourite character was Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) who showed so much growth not only during the five years of this show, but also if you consider her time on the first three years of Buffy.

This is another one that I'm building up my DVD collection of, and indulging myself whenever I can with it. This is another must-see, and provides nice entertainment after a long day.
  • A spectacular show which brings us a Vampire who has been given his soul back. Now he must accept all the evil he has done and repent to gain his gift of mortality how will it end.

Angel one of the purest shows in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Genre. If you can make a normal joe relate to a Vampire with a soul then you must be the Genius writter/ creator Joss Whedon. His character strong stories include atleast one character that anyone will relate to. The bounderies between good and evil has the watcher favoring villians even cheering for them. An excellent show for people who are versed in the "Buffy-verse" or who just love a good wholesome Sci-fi/Fantasy show.

Even with Joss Whedon's genius writing behind perhaps one of the most most popular spin offs ever the show was cancelled. Now all a true fan can do is pray for a mini-series or a Movie like Serenity. Look to Firefly/Serenity for the answer if enough fans back it the story will continue in one shape or form. Give us our Angel back!
  • Brilliant series that will be sorely missed!

I was a fan of Buffy and so naturally watched Angel as soon as it started. I loved it straight away. The balance between brilliant stories, humour, action and mix of characters was perfect.

Each epsidoe was well written, and the chemistry between Angel, Wesley and Cordelia onscreen was a joy to watch.

Season one was my favourite. This season had few story arcs, and instead concentrated on the stand alone episodes, each well written and consitently entertaining.

Season two started well, going down a darker route than season one. This season had less stand alone episodes and introduced story arcs invloving Darla, Drusilla and Angel. I feel the second half of this season was not as good especially the Pylea episodes, but this may just be because the first half was so strong it was hard to live up to.

Season 3 was a very consistent strong season, with some great story arcs and character developments. This is also the last series that has the Cordelia, Wesley and Angel as there normal selves, which in my opinion was the core of the show.

Season 4 was different. It was still strong but I feel had some mistakes. The main one being turning cordelia evil, this lost all the chemistry between her, Angel and Wesley. Also this series relied to much on a major storey arc, although I enjoyed it, I feel this made the series too intense, and Jasmine at the end i feel was a poor end to a good build up.

Finally i feel they handled the Conner situation wrong. They made him so unlikeable they could not go back.

In season 5 Angel found its feet again, and went back to a mixture of stand alone epsiodes and major story arcs. This was a great season, and the addition of Spike was genius, him and Angel together was pure comedy, their banter and rivalry was great to watch. How on earth they could cancel a show this good I do not know, especially after season 5 which was consistently brilliant and original. At least it went out on a high!

I just prey for a film in the near future!
  • Great Show

Great Show period. The characters are wonderful. I thought it would be one of those stupid Sci Fi shows but i was wrong. I started watching buffy 2 years ago and watched reruns of this. In short this and many other shows should be on the air still today period
  • Definitely one of the best spin-offs ever.

Angel(us) was one of the best characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and watching him leave that show had me disappointed for a short while. After I realized that he and Buffy wouldn't work out (because of his soul being taken away if he was to experience even one moment of true happiness), I opened up to the idea of Angel leaving and starting off fresh. Joss Whedon is a genius and having Angel in his own show is one of the best ideas he's ever had. Not only that, but all of the primary characters (Doyle, Cordelia, Wesley, Lorne, Gunn, Fred/Illyria, Lindsey, Spike, Eve, etc.) were believable and unique as well.

David Boreanaz does a wonderful job as Angel, not that we could see any other actor portraying the character. Kudos to Joss and David for having yet another, wonderfully layered character on television (the other being Buffy).

This show is truly a fantastic spin-off all by itself and all 5 seasons are worth watching.
  • Der, der, der, der, di, di, di, da, da, da, da, da, da . . . as soon as you hear the music you shout out loud. ANGEL!!

This show rocks. As a spinoff, it wasn't really expected to amount to anything. By me anyway. I thought blah blah angel without buffy. . . grr stupid show. But i was wrong, i admit it. Angel has become an amazing, unique show, no longer needing to feed off of it's sister show Buffy and say hey we've gotta be good. It is good in its own right. The charaters are well developed and Angel himself is actually really funny at times. Suprising huh. An excellent show that deserves to be raved about. A few brilliant episodes - some of my favourites - include; Are you now or have you ever been, Santuary and I will remember you. The latter making me cry for a very long time. Can't believe it's gone. I'm going off to grumble.
  • Cool, dark & warm!

Angel is propably the best series i have ever seen.

The story of Angel/Angelus past in the 1800s swept into todays big city life with criminals and demons in every dark alley!

The series ended to fast and there was ruors about a movie to bind the strings together!

But no such is to be found anymore..

I strongly recommend everyone to see this!
  • Angel went where everyone wanted Buffy to go. No one watched Angel if they did not watch Buffy. When Buffy ended everyone was crushed. Now that Angels over it sucks, but it went out with a bang! I'll accept that.

Angel rocked. It had no ending. So i just made my own ending........

Illyria destroys everything in sight then leaves LA

    Gunn dies

    Angel loses an arm

    Spike wins the Shanshu

Come on, you gotta know what happens!!!

I think they need to make a Spike spin off show that would be sooo hot! They gotta do it!!!
  • I think this was the best vampire show ever made on tv. I just don't understand why they took angel off the air. It was just getting better with every show. Please bring back the whole crew.

I was very upset when I found out they were going to take one of my favorite shows off the air. I think Angel was a very interesting show, it kept you wondering what would happen next. The crew was one of the most interesting in prime time. My niece and I got closer because of our interest in the show. We are very upset that the show got cancelled for no good reason. We still watch the reruns on TNT every morning and afternoon. It was wrong to take Cordy off the show, and then take the show off the air. I hope that you will reconsider and bring Angel back.
  • It's a damn shame this show is gone...

The WB and FOX are the worst stations when it comes to picking shows worth airing. With Buffy and Angel we sweated every season just wondering if it would come back until it just didn't anymore. Angel is the most amazing show I've ever watched... anyone who believes the dark and depressing nature of the show made it bad is way off. Wesley's evolution from goofball to psychotic loose cannon over 5 years was the best acting I've seen on television. He just got the happy kicked out of him time and time again worse than Angel has over the years. If they make a Spike movie I will just break down and cry with joy. Cult favorites should not be cancelled because they have a continuing storyline that a person can't just enter from the middle of, they have established themselves as fantastic shows with diehard fans... screw reality shows.
  • The story continues from "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer", a vampire known for his legendary killings, now cursed with a soul that makes him feel remorse, must seek redemption. Aided by some friends he helps the helpless, and fullfills his destiny in the apoca

This is the most awesome show tv could ever offer!!! In my personal opinion, Angel is far better show than Buffy, and both of them combined are even cooler! I would really like to invite everyone to see this show at least once. This show could managed to deliver different feelings to the watcher, it could be funny, sad, and even scary! And lets not forget too, that it had some of the best battle secuences a tv show could ever had!!! The crossovers from Buffy to Angel were fantastic! This was one of the reasons I started to watch this show. It wasn't Emmy or whatever nominated because it was presented in a lower rated network, The WB... and the show itself was lower rated by The WB... It had so many stories still to deliver to its great and loyal audience, but they forced it to end. Still the 110 episodes remain and deliver us great thrilling over and over again.
  • Angel is one of the best of shows tv ever seen.

Angel wasnt just about a Vampire looking for redemption, it was about Family, love, finding your place in the world. Like Buffy, most people misundertsand it as nonsense because of the name. Which is just stupid on their part because they missed out on a great show. This shoiw ill be missed like it "parebtal show" Buffy.
  • Even though the 5th and final season of Angel wasn’t perfect, I thought it hit plenty of highs. There were so many amazing moments and some truly superb episodes. These were some of my favorite highlights:

    Favorite Quotes from Season 5:

"Spike's a hero and you're CEO of Hell Incorporated. What kind of bizzaro world did I wake up in?" Cordelia to Angel on "Angel."

"My therapist thought I was holding on to false hope, but I knew you'd come back. You're like Gandalf the White resurrected from the pit of the balrog. More beautiful than ever," Andrew gushes upon seeing Spike still alive on “Angel.”

    Favorite Episodes of Season 5:

-"You're Welcome" - this was the 100th episode, made awesome by the all-too-brief appearance of the real Cordy. It was funny, intriguing and heartbreaking. I think it was the best episode of the season, and one of the best of the entire series.

-"Damage" - it's the episode with the crazy slayer who's killing every man that crosses her path...but that's not what makes it a great episode. What makes it a great episode is James Marster's amazing performance in it, and the re-appearance of Andrew ( who was beyond hilarious!).

-"Smile Time" - there was NoTHING funnier than Angel as a puppet. Nothing. And yet those other demons-disguised-as-puppets were so sinister. A near perfect episode.

-"Lineage" - Alexis Denisof gave an incredible performance in this episode. We got to understand more about why he is who he is by watching his interactions with "his father" (who was really a very convincing robot look-alike). And the chilling look on Wesley's face as he shot "his father" dead to save Fred was a real throwback to the ruthless and more savvy person he had become during season 4.

-"Origin" - this time it was Vincent Kartheiser whose performance blew me away. I, like many fans, spent most of the 4th season HaTING the character of Connor. Yet by the end of the episode I really, really liked Connor again. It felt like a TV miracle, but really it was just an amazingly intricate performance that showed Connor as a compassionate character. David Boreanaz also gave a wonderfully subtle performance. That last parting glance between Angel and Connor totally blew me away and even made me cry.

Does anyone else have any favorite quotes or memories or episodes from Season 5?
  • Live fast... die never... Angel, the vampire with a soul... an ingenious concoction.

When I heard Buffy was having a spinoff I was a little dissapointed. Angel was a huge character in the show and how could there be angel with no buffy, it just didnt seem to work in my mind. Wow, I was so wrong.. this show was awesome, at times it was better than Buffy. It ended way too soon. I really loved it, I watch the reruns and it really is an intereseting and hilarious show to watch. Just an overall great show the later seasons are very dark and interesting and have some of the best episodes.
  • ANGEL, a show ahead of it's time.

ANGEL is one of my personal favorites!

I began watching this show when it debut on the WB network in the fall of \'99.

Brilliant show! The first season had that Batman/ dark hero tone. The following seasons grew to be so much more than words could ever describe!

The Series is very well written. The characters are so out there and wacky.

The thing that I loved about ANGEL was the depth of drama/comedy/action that it contained. Much like it\'s mother-show, \"Buffy\". The stories grabbed ahold of you, and made you want stay till the end of the show.

  • How to make a spinoff work? Finish the original show, so you have enough time to fix the show in its last season.

Joss Whedon managed to pull this show out of the fire by the skin of his teeth.

Don't get me wrong, personally I enjoyed every season of Angel, but frankly the show just didn't have the universal appeal that Buffy seemed to have.

To his credit, creator Joss Whedon turned this all around in season 5. He reintroduced one of my favorite characters from Buffy, namely Spike, into the show. He added back in some of the lightness from Buffy. Although the show has a semi-tragic ending, I can't fault the writing -- Angel was a tragic hero.

So why would you want to watch a show that is a Dark spinoff of Buffy? Well, maybe you like the darker themes, maybe you like the more mature life situations of the characters. Maybe you like David Borneaz (Angel).

This show, like Buffy, uses mostly character development to drive the show. The problem is that some characters did not develop very well. In specific, I felt that everything from the makeup and hairstyle changes to the personality changes of Cordelia weakened the show. Since Cordelia was such a main character in the show, it was quite noticable.

However, some characters like Wesley (originally from Buffy) were developed so well, that the show in the long term managed to overcome the Cordelia fiasco. Also, the introduction of the new character "Fred" was just wonderful. She was probably my favorite character in the entire show,

although I must say that the demon character Lorne comes in a very close second.

If you want to watch this show for the first time, you should definitely watch the first 3 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer first because the main character of this show comes directly from there, and his character history is important.

Don't expect another Buffy when you watch this show though. If you come into it with lower expectations, you'll probably enjoy it more.

Overall, I think there is a lot of value to be

found in this show, and if you liked Buffy, you should give this show a chance.
  • Simply 1 of the best shows ever made.

There have been alot of shows created, but i never found a show this good before, including the series which it spinned off. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Angel (David Boreanaz) is a 240+ year old vampire, which isn't that special in these types of series, but he is different, he was cursed with a soul by gypsies, feeling the guilt of murdering all his victims he lives for decades in solitude feeding of rats, but then he is visited by a man who shows him Buffy, and Angel decides to help her.

But after loosing his soul (if he enjoys 1 perfect moment then he will loose his soul) and again killing people, he decides to move to L.A. to once more live in solitude, to redeem himself for what he did. In L.A. he is accompanied by a half-demon called Doyle (the late Glenn Quinn), who gets images from the power that be about people who are in danger, and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), who also moved to L.A., who helps him to keep in touch with his human side.

Unlike what most people believe, this is not some horror series, most people think about creepy demons when they read about this show, but the show is very humane, and you will find out very soon that Angel isn't some demon, but a hero, a person you would want to look out for you when you are in a dark alley.

This series have been able to capture alot of different catagory's without making it a bad show, it has good action, drama, fantasy/horror and comedy. There is alot going in 1 episode, so you won't be bored with long dialogues that contains nothing, but it won't be to fast that you miss things, there is good action with well made make-up, good drama, excellent character development throughout the serie, and there is alot of good comedy throughout the series.

Unfortunaly the series was cancelled after it's 5th season even though the ratings were still very good, and non of the main actors were talking about leaving, this was simply a decision by the WB to cancel it, about which millions and millions of fans all over the world are still wondering about why they did it.

Still they left us with 5 excellent seasons, and a lot of hours of good television.

If you like action with more then just a bad storyline then go watch this, it's so much more then just a action or horror series, and don't let the idea of Buffy the Vampire Slayer put you off, alot of people think this series is not their type of show because they seen a few episodes of BtVS, but this series is really different, and is alot more grown up, although i would still advice to check out the first 3 seasons of BtVS for Angel, Cordelia and Wesley. (Alexis Denisof - who joined the show a little bit later in it's first season)
  • Best spin off ever!

Angel is one of those shows that you remember those characters, setting, the story, just about every aspect of the show, and you still watch it as if it were new. I lasted longer then most people thought it would last but it deserved it. Hell, the only bad thing about the show is that fact that the ending leaves it just hanging there like a sentence with one word left to finish!!!
