    SHE

    The Good;

    Angel and Wesley dancing at Cordy's party is possibly the funniest thing you've ever seen. A laudable if slightly heavy-handed rant against female circumsision. Also love the scene where Angel pretends to be an art guide and Angel and Phantom Dennis.

    The Bad;
    The scene where Wes tries to chat-up the girl at the party is cringeworthy, he's pretty much treated as the comic relief for this ep. The scene where the camera wheels around whilst Angel and Jiera talk, growing increasingly worked up carries on for so long and is so over the top it's almost parody.

    Best line:
    Mars; "The little sisters are chilling"
    Cordy
    "I'm so glad you came. You know how parties are, you're always worried that no one is going to suck the energy out of the room like a giant black hole of boring despair but there you were in a cinch"

    Jeez, how did they get away with that?
    The whole 'unmaking' scene is just unwatchable. The contrast between it and the obvious affection between the 'unmade' girl and her captors when they send her back is incredibly creepy, especially her 'dead behind the eyes' expression and the way she refers to herself in third person.

    Kinky dinky:
    I'd say that Bai Ling is lovely but that seems quite redundant even with the ridges and violet eyes (she's also in Southland Tales with SMG). Cordy's friend Laura also sounds like a fun girl as is her friend 'Pants on' Diego. Naked hotties on ice who seems to have a strong effect on both Wes and Angel. Mars says his Shaman could never turn away 'Scantily clad women in distress'. Wes refers to the girls at the party as 'fillies'.

    Captain Subtext;
    Obviously this is an allegory against female circumsision (once watched a documentary on it and afterwards went and got drunk for the first time in my life to try to blank the memory). Although you wonder if the males' fear of the females is more to do with them burning people to death rather than just simple chauvanism? Note that the male demons don't hurt any humans, it's Jhira and co who killing and she's quite prepared to let Wes and Cordy die for her cause. Not to stereotype but Wes has a knowledge of flowers in addition to the occult.

    Guantanamo Bay;
    Angel once again beats his way to the truth

    Buffy characters on Angel;
    6; Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes

    Questions and observations;
    Angel refers to his time in Hell again where he remarks he knew many of the people. AI use their mobile phones to good effect. It'll take the Sunnydale Scoobies another 3 years to get theirs. Great performance from Sean Gunn as the spa manager, always thought he was in Desperate Housewives but he's not. Wes handles himself well in a fight for the first time. The only ep of Angel with a sequence over the end titles (Buffy does it in The Puppet Show). It seems unlikely that Angel actually knew Manet or Baudelaire as he would actually have been Angelus at the time?

    Marks out of 10; 7/10, Keith Topping loathes this ep but I think it's quite good.

    Not bad, not bad at all. ‘She’ is seen as the worst episode of Angel by many fans. It’s true that I don’t think that Angel has a single bad episode but ‘She’ isn’t even my least favourite even though it’s also not one of the best.

    Thing is with this show, it’s fun and enjoyable. Dark and interesting. But still some scenes are very easy to forget.

    ‘She’ begins with one of the best comedy scenes of the show with Angel and Wesley at a Cordy party. Wesley makes a fool out of himself when a girl asks about his sweater, it was obvious that David wouldn’t keep in his laughter and I understand why. But the best scene was of Angel imagining himself dancing, now if that isn’t comedy than I don’t know what is.

    The episode is about a woman from another planet who is trying to escape from it, the men there are powerful and they control the women and their sexuality (sexual vibes were very high during this episode). Cordy also has a vision of a guy with exploding eyeballs which looked pretty gross.

    Anyway, Angel meets the woman called Jheira who is waiting for a girl to come to this planet through a portal and she has the power to burn. But then some men of her home planet are here to bring her back and they capture the girl and make her unmade which is like making her a slave.

    The very hot scene between Angel and Jheira in his apartment was great, because of something in her back she has this strong burning sexual touch that touches Angel and gives her a chance to escape.

    Jheira goes to a place where all of the girls she had saved are waiting in icebaths. Angel and his gang come there to save them because the male demons are on their way too. Angel gives them time to escape and makes the male demons go back to their home world.

    The thing about ‘She’ is that even though it’s an enjoyable episode, not much is really added to the show. I did continue enjoying Wesley’s butt-kissing scenes though and the great heat-wave scenes. This is definitely an underrated episode but it isn’t one of the show’s best however.

  • I like to pretend that this episode never existed. When I first watched this I thought it´s the wrong series

    Not everything is wrong with this episode,but most of it.Well I better concentrate on the good stuff.

    1.We don´t like enslaving females.Good thing!

    2.Angel can´t dance(well not in a cool way).Somehow I expected that.

    3.Never mush a bag of coffee beans.I´m glad I learned that!

    Seriously,this episode is okay for every other series,not for Angel.Compared to the other episodes that followed it´s just disappointing.

    not a very good episode and a little bit boring but the storyline works.

    angel meets a woman named sjeira who escaped from her homeworld by a portal because women mean nothing there. i should like that story because i;m a woman myself and very much for women rights but it does not always work on tv shows.

    the episode is too slow and a bit boring but has some good moments too like angel dancing and wesley growing into the gang. otherwise it is not one of the most memorable episodes but still enjoyable.

    I think maybe this was my least favorite episode of Season one. Angel meeting up with Jheira and helping her and the others from her dimension to safety SOUNDS all well and good, but it was kind of a slow episode for my taste. I wasnt buying the Angel/Jheira attraction for a minute, no matter how thick it was poured on. Im trying to think of one redeeming scene from this episode and it is hard. I guess the part where Angel is imagining himself dancing at Cordys party was the best part. Watching Wes dance was just about as funny!
  • Dude, there’s so much damn ice in this episode it’s like Ice-apalooza. For the longest time I actually thought the title of this episode was not, in fact, “She,” but “Ice.”

    Fun words to learn and know: Cordelia: “I'm so glad you came. You know how parties are. You're always worried that nobody's going to be around to suck the energy out of the room like a giant black hole of boring despair. But there you were, in the clinch!”

    Dialogue to lose inside the sofa in Hell: Spa Guy: Welcome, bro!

    This episode is just kind of blah. There’s not much good to be said about it. The dancing was truly inspired. It will live in infamy throughout eternity -- absolutely priceless! That aside, the only thing of actual import to happen in this episode was Angle’s hiring of Wesley. Otherwise, it’s just styrofoam packing peanuts and bubble wrap.

    Do I think women should be subservient to men? Hell no! Do I think the fight against enslavement, oppression and persecution is one worth fighting? You’re darn tootin’! So why is it that this episode leaves me with such an empty feeling? It could have something to do with the fact that Jheira has all the warmth and passion of wet, balled up paper towel. Here’s a woman who can burn people alive, and she’s portrayed as the Ice Queen. Why is “She” such a colossal bore? Is it asking to much that Jheira show an ounce of femininity other than the boobs in your face variety? As for Angel’s attraction to her, I like to think that was just his reaction to the Ko and not Jheira’s utter lack of charm and charisma. Talk about a “giant black hole of boring despair.” Blech.
  • Are we still watching Angel?

    She-Wesley becomes an official part of Angel Investigations just in time to take part in their latest case. A series of horribly burned corpses lead to a race of creatures from another dimension whose gender warfare is spilling over into the streets of L.A.

    Bizarre, weird and almost unwatchable. She is the worst episode of the season and should be forgotten. The whole plot with the species from alternate dimension having a gender war in L.A. is just poorly executed and too sci-fi for Angel. It just feels so out of place here, and should have been an episode of Sliders, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, ANYTHING BUT ANGEL! Bai Jing is barely tolerable as Jheria as her thick accent makes it hard for you to understand anything she's saying which hurts her performance. Not to mention, she was the character who was explaining the story to the audience and since I don't understand most of what she was saying and I was lost during the rest of the episode. The only thing cool about her was the heat touch, which is original power but the orgasm touch or aura whatever is just awkward and ridiculous. I would just get annoyed everytime she would touch Angel and David had to act all defenseless and lusty, it was just wrong. Also by the way, I hated how she almost got Cordelia and Wesley killed by those demonic guys, the slutty-looking heffa! The only good part was the beyond hilarious teaser with Angel and Wesley dancing at Cordelia's house party, just priceless! But even that couldn't take away the utter mess of this whole hour. All and All, just a bad episode that didn't belong anywhere near Angel in the first place.
  • Not really the Angel we re used to... But at least we got that imaginary Angel dance sequence.

    Hm, where do I begin?

    The plot in this episode is too far fetched, some of the acting is barely bearable (you know what I mean :) ) and it simple doesn't fit in "Angel".

    It's certinly worst episode this season until this point.

    I m glad "rogue demon hunter" is here to stay, to say the least, and Angel's imaginary dance sequence was hilarious.

    All in all, not too many bright points to this episode, it was just a filler, the worst kind.

    I hope Joss and the crew will make up for this little fiasco in the episodes to come.

    'Till next time, regards.

    She is definitely the weakest episode of Season One and one of the weakest in the entire Buffyverse. It actually starts off very good with Angel and Wesley at Cordelia's houseparty. The dancing scenes were absolutely hilarious, especially Angel's. He looked like such a goof. But from there on out things went downhill. The plot this week wasn't much good. It looks good on paper but in reality it just doesn't work or flow. Things felt quite rushed and forced. The so-called sexual chemistry between Jheira and Angel was practically non-existent and the fight scenes weren't up to much either. There was bit too much backstory for a demon who only appears in one episode. Also, the show's executive producer and one of Buffy's best writers were both working on the story so they could have made it alot better. Bai Ling wasn't great as Jheira and I found it difficult to understand what she said. Also Angel makes it seem likes she unbelievably hot when she's actually pretty weird looking (at least in this episode). However, the dialogue was very good, much better than last week's. Cordelia and Wesley were as always funny and even Angel wasn't as broody as normal. As I've said, that first scene was classic. The special effects were pretty good, much much better than last week's hideously ugly (for the wrong reasons) demon and it was good they kept things simple on the demons. Jheira as a character was quite interesting also. But even though the dialogue and the effects were a big improvement on Expecting the storyline was just bad. Expecting's wasn't great but better than this. It does get more entertaining on rewatched but they could have made it a lot better. As it stands, She is just a disappointment, especially from such a great show.

    Line of the episode:

    Cordelia: You know how parties are. You're always worried that no one's gonna suck the energy out of the room like a giant black hole of boring despair. But there you were, in the clinch!
  • Sad to say, but this is probably the worst hour of TV Joss Whedon has ever produced. Obviously, I am not fond of this episode, and it must've been filler material.

    Sad to say, but this is probably the worst hour of TV Joss Whedon has ever produced. Obviously, I am not fond of this episode, and it must've been filler material. These people are capable of such better stories than this. This feels more like an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, and a bad one at that. Even the so-called "demon" make-up looks like clichéd Star Trek designs just adding a bumpy forehead or something like that to make a person look "alien." The entire plot is far too out of place for the style of the Buffverse, let alone Angel itself. That's saying something considering the broad spectrum of genres that it does encompass, but straight science fiction really has never fit in. The regular series cast maintains their usual high quality acting, but it's just the plot that sours me to this episode. The story just doesn't have much humanity to it, and Bai Ling is not worth looking at here in this make-up design.

    Again, this felt like filler. I would've prefered an extra episode with Doyle earlier in the season than have this sub-par quality plot sit dead center in this season. I hate to be so crass about something from a Joss Whedon creation, but this is how I feel.

    She was a good episode of Angel. It is an episode about oppressed women which might not appeal to all viewers, however it is an important issue in the world today. I think this was a pretty good episode even if it was just a filler. I enjoyed the story and the action. There were some very interesting scenes to watch. This episode is where the Gang really comes together as Angel offers Wesley a paid position at Angel Investigations. It is ironic that such an important part of the series is in this episode which isn't part of any main story lines. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
