    SLEEP TIGHT

    The Good;
The tragedy of Wesley Wyndham Price, it's a powerful 40 minutes, the rug well and truly pulled out from under the viewers feet.

    The Bad;
Kim's demon transformation and the Rathers generally look stupid but it is effective. Exactly how much of Connor's blood does Lilah have to lace Angel's with? Surely Holtz and Justine should go a little farther than Utah to avoid Angel? (it's a cliche of American fiction that people who go on the run for some reason seldom go outside the US?)

    Best line:
Wes; "You work for a man who you think is noble and good. I respect that but he's not. I work for a vampire who in fact is noble and good. Quirky but there it is"

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Justine all busted up then SLITTING WES' THROAT!

    Questions and observations;
Lorne tells Connor the story about The Rat Pack, wonder if Angel ever told him he knew them? Angel talks about hell with Nixon and Britney Spears. Bit unkind to both of them. Angel is a fan of The Flying Nun presumably during the Manilow years, he must have watched a lot of daytime TV in his time (although maybe that goes without saying?). Note Angel would rather Connor would be with Holtz whom he knows would care for him than Lilah who would disect him. Also Holtz pushes Justine aside to stop her following him into hell. What happened to Linwood's policy of leaving Connor alone?
Marks out of 10; 7/10 humdrum ep until the devestating ending
  • Wesley acts like an idiot and Holtz exacts revenge by becoming a baby snatching scumbag.

    9.0
    "Superb"

The execution of this episode's main arc is flawless. The story takes many twists which I did not forsee, and the action was continuous and engaging.

However, it relies on Wesley acting like an idiot, in addition to some of the gang, which is painful to watch. The previously level-headed Wesley decides to act completely differently than before, and steal Angel's baby. Instead of just telling the gang about the prophesy and coming up with a solution (as they have done a bunch of times averting dooming prophesies in the Buffyverse), he takes the matter into his own hands, and goes to Holtz. It is not clear to me why he would go to Holtz, or how he found them. Not to mention that none of the gang clues Wesley in to the whole Connor blood tainting sort of gaslighting done to Angel. He's their boss right? I would think that would be an important thing to tell him; pretty much top priority.

The brief monster musicians plot confused me in that it seems to me that the gang crossed the line by killing them. Since they knew that the infection the woman contracted from the wraiths was treatable and there wasn't any evidence of them hurting people otherwise, it seems harsh to kill them. The whole thing seemed rushed, and perhaps just to fill out the episode.

Sleep Tight was a perfect and classic episode of Angel. This episode follows up on previous scenarios. I really enjoyed watching this episode because there were revelations, difficult decisions, surprise situations, and an unforseen ending. There was a lot of character depth, and we got to see a little of that in every character. It was made apparent that Wesley disapproves of Gunn and Fred, while they continue falling for each other. Lorne discovers the truth about Wesley and gets hurt because of it. I think this was an important episode and I can't wait to watch what happens next!!!!!!!
  • Connor is kidnapped by Holtz.

    9.7
    "Superb"
Sleep Tight is an outstanding episode that finishes off the baby Connor arc, furthers the Holtz/Sahjhan arc and sets up the teenage Connor arc. It is one of the best episodes in the entire 'verse my 2nd favourite of Season 3 (the best being Lullaby). The main story is so well crafted together that it feels like a jigsaw falling into place. All the storylines submerge into one result and small things like Fred choosing Gunn over Wesley combine with larger elements such as Lilah spiking Angel's blood come together to a final, heartbreaking outcome. Wesley's descent into darkness is well written and acted here but unlike some I don't feel sorry for him. As Fred says in "Double Or Nothing", he could have came to them and asked for their help. But he didn't. He's so wrapped up in what is possibly going to happen he is blind to what is happening around him. His ignoring of Lorne telling him that W&H are spiking Angel's blood proves further that he is oblivious to his surroundings. He also seems to be so readily able to betray them that he annoyed me a lot. His beating of Lorne proves this and I felt that Wesley was very, in a way, self-involved here, determined to protect Connor- his intentions were good but his execution wasn't and his subsequent alienation from the gang was deserving to a point.

I really missed Cordelia during this episode and felt that if she hadn't went on vacation she could have prevented all this. Wesley might have told her or she might have been able to work out what to do next and balance Angel's rage. Cordelia is vital to that group and in her absence it completely falls apart, proving that she is a leader of the group.

Lilah was at her villainous best here, playing everyone off everyone else, all to get what she wants. She is one of the most intelligent villains the show has ever done- she's not super strong but her intelligence and ruthlessness enable her to become a bigger adversary to Angel than Holtz and Sahjhan ever could be. Sahjhan also finally did something beside sit and annoy everyone lots and opened the Quor'toth. While I resent him for doing this (if he hadn't we wouldn't have gotten teenage Connor), I think it finally showed him to be a true bad guy. I still dislike him however- he's just poorly acted IMO.

Justine slitting Wesley's throat- wow! That was a twist. She finally does something interesting. This action further removes Wesley from the group as he is unable to say his part in what happened and I think her attempting to kill him is a good thing- it shows completely loyalty to one person isn't right and won't end well. Holtz was good here too- he sees Connor as a new start for him and a chance for him to finally get a family- shown by him renaming Connor Steven. His revenge against Angel was complete here- killing someone isn't the best revenge. Sleep Tight is an outstanding episode and one of the best in the entire show. It is definitely unmissable and is a defining point in the series.
  • Blood Is Sicker Than Water

Sleep Tight-When Angel's mood becomes suddenly darker and he begins to crave human blood, Wesley resolves to do whatever is necessary to protect Connor -- even if it means betraying those he loves.

A dark and shocking episode which sets the events of the rest of the season into motion. I have to say Lilah dsereves the biggest evil b!%ch of the century award. I mean feeding Connor's blood to Angel has to be the most twisted idea that she had ever planned. Watching Angel getting high off his own son's blood is distrubing and David gives a great performances. The plot with Wesley with the prophecy gets to overwhelming point. Welsey taking Connor is very shocking development as he even attack Lorne to stop him from stopping him. It's a very dark development for Wesley that really tests who the character has become to make such a unforgivable betrayl. The whole cast is exceptional as they try to figure out the reason for Wesley's betrayl. David, J. August, and Amy especially stand out this hour. Holtz's part in the matter is actually interesting. While he and Justine seemed to be making threats and attacks for no real point to know they planned to take Connor and make a family with him was nicely played. Also, the slicing of Wesley's throat was one of the most brutal scenes and you can't help but wonder if he will alive! One thing that is still very vague is why Sahjhan hates Angel so much, which will be explained next episode. The episode ends on a heartbreaking note with Holtz jumping into a portal with little Connor as Angel is to late to get his son. It's leaves you with a sad reaction as Angel has just lost the only child his could ever have. All and All, a superb episode that is one of the best of the series as well as the season, with very dark and shocking developements.
  • Wesley's failure to trust Angel ends in tragedy for both of them and nothing will ever be the same.

    "Perfect"
Hands down my favorite episode of the season, the most exciting and also extremely sad. Wesley decides that it's better to team up with Holtz to prevent Angel from killing Connor than to have Holtz take out his revenge on Connor. Sahjahn and W&H's evil plan to get Angel to kill Connor is starting to take effect and he begins getting violent. It turns out they've spiked his pig's blood with Connor's own blood. Now there are a lot of really evil things done on this show, but I think this is the most horrific thing they've ever done. It's just chilling.

Fred: "So, there is more to pig's blood than meets the eye. (Angel looks at the blood on the wall) There's just a trace of..."

Angel, quietly: "Human blood in it. I can feel it. It's his. - It's Connor's."

Gunn: "How do you know that?"

Angel: "The past couple of days he's...smelled like food."

Lorne: "So, they've been feeding you your own son's blood so you'd get the taste of it and want more."

    Fred: "Who's 'they'?"

    Angel: "Who do you think?"

Wesley thinks making a pact with Holtz will save both Connor and Angel. I love the scene when he's taking Connor from the hotel and he's humming to the baby and Lorne reads what he's thinking, then he attacks Lorne. This is when Wesley has made his decision that he will do whatever he needs to in order, even if someone gets hurt. He can't go back at this point. Then Justine slits his throat and takes the baby away from him. Just when I think maybe Holtz stealing Connor and raising him Utah might be OK, rather than have Angel kill his own son, then Lilah and Sahjahn show up wanting Connor dead. Angel is forced to let Connor go with Holtz to save his life. He would rather lose his son than have him killed, but he never expects that Sahjahn will force Holtz to enter the portal to Quortoth with Connor. Now he realizes that he's sent his son to the worst hell dimension. Would it have been better to let him die? No matter what Holtz has to face, he believes he has exacted a fitting revenge on Angel/us. Holtz died inside when his family died, and only by causing that amount of pain to Angel could his revenge be sufficient. Holtz would personally suffer any torment if it caused Angel pain, so he clearly won here. As well as the bonus for destroying Angel's relationship with Wesley.
  • Angel loses yet again

    "Superb"
Angel is acting strangely in this episode. Wes is still at wits end trying to figure out how to keep Angel from killing Connor, and no one else knows save Holtz and co. Holtz has no qualms, he gives Wes an ultimatum to get the child away from Angel or HE will. Angel becomes increasingly violent during this episode, even snapping at Connor. The gang (minus Wes) find out that Angels blood has been spiked with his own sons blood. No surprise that Lilah and Sahjahn are behind this. Wes (not knowing ANY of this) decides to make his move and takes Connor, knocking out Lorne in the process. Justine fakes being injured to get Wes to help her...and cuts his throat and leaves with Connor. She picks up Holtz on her way and they are set to leave and raise Connor in Utah. This doesnt happen, Angel and W&H catch up with them. In a shocking ending, Sahjahn shows up and opens a portal to Quor-toth (hell dimension) and Holtz jumps in with baby Connor.

this is one of the episodes where you have to say WOW at the end because it is really angel it is very very best!

wesley taking away the baby and believing it was the right thing to do and sahjshan opening a portal and holtz going with the baby to a hell dimension leaving angel and tortured on the ground just wanting to die. so heart breaking!

also lilah is really evil as she tried to make ange kill the baby by putting his blood in ange;ls blood and justine slitting wesleys throat. absolutely fantastic episode!
  • My saddest, and even though well written, my most hated episode :P

    9.0
    "Superb"
Well this is one of the saddest episodes ever in the angel series, seeing that cute little baby Connor get taken i didn\'t even want to see the show anymore, even though Connor did come back in the future, i still would have wanted to see baby Connor grow up with Angel, maybe it\'d have been a hard stopry to write, but Angel got somethign never expected, something so great and he had to lose him to save him. Which is heartbreaking.. And being betrayed by wesley, THAT must hurt more..losing yuor son because of one of your closest and most trusted friends..This is real tearjerker. I cried so much at the end, seeing Angel just lyign there..it was liek his own heart was breaking. I wished so much that Holtz would\'ve stuck his head back out and thrown baby Connor back or something lol okay i knew that was not gonna happen..but i still wanted it. Well not one of my most favorite episode, but i knew that it was somehting that had to happen, because you can\'t have a baby around all the time, even IF charmed did make it happen, Connor didn\'t have any shields to protect himself..
  • It had some really unecessary things like that rock demon group. but what makes this episode so good is that it leaves you cold. Wes takes another step and takes the baby with him. it has two classic scenes. the end and the Wes-thoat-cutting-scene. great

    Sleep Tight

Beautiful episode. too bad it has some pretty useless stuff like that lame band and some annoying scenes. but it's also very cold episode and that makes it so good. it has the classic Wesley-getting-his-throat-cut scene and ofcourse the last scene that makes everybody cry. poor Angel lost his son for good.

cut to the office and Wes sees the baby cry and he goes over to it but Angel walks in and grabs the baby and says Wes should have done that and then they hear a girl singing and Angel says she's good. Fred and Gunn come in and they are calling each other and Wes says he wants to take Connor with him and Angel says is good and then Lorne comes and he needs to show them something and it's the girl and when she sings she becomes a monster.

    the credits start

The girl tells them about her band and that they're all kina demon-ish and they changed her and Wes says it's temporary and that they need to kill them and Angel says it's easy and he doesn't want to call Cordy or Groo so he's going and Wes has to go to another place. cut to Justine showing the guys how to defeat a vampire and to never trust a blood sucker and she kicks it and tells them to keep practising. Holtz asks why Justine isn't sure about something and she says is the people who work for Angel and they might end killing them all and Justine says they work for him so that makes them their enemies and then Wes arrives and Holtz says he's about to make his biggest decision in life 'want some apple?'

cut to the band and Gunn, Angel and Fred arrive to kill them and they fight and Angel becomes very violent and rips off one's arm and says that it was fun. cut to Holtz, Justine and Wes and Justine doesn't trust Wes and says he would stab them in the back but Wes says he doesn't want his family to get hurt and grabs Justine and says that he doesn't stab in the back and Holtz takes the knife away and says that Wes is an honest man and should trust him but wes doesn't and Holtz gives Wes one day to take the baby or else everyone will get hurt.

cut to Lorne entertaining the baby and the rest comes back and Angel is doing a little weird and says that if Connor doesn't shut up he won't get old and jells at him and throws his glass away and that upsets the baby and then he asks what is wrong with him. Lorne noticed he's drinking a lot more and they think someone is putting something in his blood. cut to Wes walking outside and looking a families when he knows Justine is following him and asks why she is and she says that he's blind and that Holtz is a good man and he'll keep his word. Wes tells Justine and he has enough hate for himself and for Holtz and that she hs to be careful and he leaves and Holtz is there and says that he didn't hear her leave.

cut to the hotel and Fred finds human blood in the blood and Angel says it's Connor cause he's been smelling like food. They ask who did it and he knows who. cut to Lilah and she sensed Angel and he says he could have her and torture her for so long and that makes her scared but he wants to talk to her like a normal person and she says she had a game face to be better than everyone else and she became that face years ago. and she's glad he came over cause she was wondering why she was doing this and realised it was for making his life miserable for the rest of his life and then Sahjhan arrives. he's mad at Lilah but she says she was just talking and Sahjhan came to her when Holtz didn't do the job and Angel doesn't know him but Sahjhan leaves anyway only madder.

cut to Wes going to take the baby and Lorne sees him and Wes says Angel said it and starts to singing a song and Lorne reads it so Wes puts the baby down and attacks Lorne and knocks him out but when he wants to sleep is Angel next to him and he says he's taking the baby over to his place and he has everything but Angel wants to him search for the demon Sahjhan and he will better in his house and then finally is able to leave. It's Angel's first night without the baby and he wants them to stay with him and they hear Lorne moaning but then Holtz and some of his gang come along. they start to fight and they defeat the very easily and Holtz just leaves and Lorne comes out from under the table and he tells them that Wesley isn't taking the baby away fir the night but for good and he went to see Holtz behind their backs twice.

cut to Wes taking the baby away into his car and he hears Justine and she says that he's everything he said and that she's gonna kill him for what he did to her and he wants to take her to a hospital but she says she only needs to do this and grabs a knife and cuts his throat and takes the baby away in his car and leaves him for dead. cut to the hotel and Angel is getting crazy and Wes doesn’t answer and then Angel has a fight with Gunn but Fred stops them. Angel forces someone to speak and he says where to find Holtz and Angel leaves and Fred and Gunn need to find Wes before Angel does.

cut to Lilah and some guys going to find the baby and they leave and Angel hits some guys and steals their ride to follow the others. cut to Holtz waiting for Justine and she stops the car and he gets in and he sees Connor and says that he's his father and Justine his mother and that his name is Stefan. they're going to Utah and Justine says it's pretty there. cut to them being attacked by another car and they go outside and they are there and Lilah and her guys have a gun but won't shoot. everyone wants the baby alive and then Sahjhan arrives and he says he doesn't. Angel grabs a gun and Holtz says the baby would be dead before he hits the ground. Angel tells Holtz to take the baby and Holtz is gonna raise him like his own son. but Sahjhan opens a portal and he says it's the darkest world and he will put them all if they don't kill it so Lilah tells to kill it but Holtz takes the baby and goes into it. Angel tries to go after it but it shuts and Angel lies on the floor while everyone else goes away 'Connor'

    Black Out

    ----------

    Best episode quotes:

Fred: Are you crazy? It's the best state in the Union! What's wrong with Texas? - Texas doesn't hate the black man. Texas loves the black man. Well, most of Texas. Anyone with a brain. What's so great about California?

Gunn: Everything. It's got the climate, the ocean...

Fred: The earth that opens up and swallows you whole.

    Gunn: The Lakers, the music.

    Fred: The traffic, the smog.

    Gunn: It's got you.

    Fred: Okay. You win.

Angel: I like nuns. How did the flying nun fly anyway? Was it god or - magic? What? You think about these things sometimes.

Justine: He'd be sucking the life out of you right about now, Rick. Never take your eyes off a vampire. You have to feel where your fellow soldiers are! You can trust each other with your lives! Never! Ever! Trust a bloodsucker! Keep practicing!

    Holtz: I don't like it.

Justine: They'll learn or they'll die.

Holtz: Oh, not that. They're coming right along. I - I don't like tea in these cotton cups.

Justine: It's called Styrofoam - and I'll get you some China ones.

Holtz: Thank you, Justine. Are you ready?

    Justine: Yes.

Holtz: What is it you're not sure of - is it me?

Justine: No! It's... - these people that work for Angel - we may end up killing a lot of them.

Holtz: We may end up killing all of them.

Justine: I'd follow you through the gates of hell to kill vampires, Daniel. You know that.

Holtz: But people - even evil people who help vampires...are another kettle of fish.

Justine: They chose Angel. That makes them enemy soldiers.

Wesley: So I guess that makes it alright.

Holtz: Mr. Wyndham-Pryce. How nice to see you again.

Justine: What the hell do you want?

Holtz: Don't be rude Justine. He's our guest. And in the throws of a very difficult decision, I'd imagine. You want some apple?

Wesley: I don't wanna see anyone get hurt. Your soldiers - or mine.

Holtz: I share your hatred of violence, Mr. Wyndham-Pryce and I've meted out a good deal less of it in my lifetime than Angelus has in his.

    Wesley: Angel

Holtz: Whatever you wish to call him. I will never agree that he has somehow been absolved from the past by the presence of his soul.

Justine: He's a vampire. End of discussion. And I'd bet you a dollar this one's here to stab us in the back.

    Wesley: Who did you lose?

    Justine: What?

Wesley: You're here in Holtz' army - ready to kill others, die for the cause. You must have lost someone very important to you.

Justine: That's none of your business

Holtz: Her twin sister Julia was murdered by vampires.

Wesley: You lost family. I'm sorry. Angel and the people I work with are my family - and when I say I don't want to see anyone to get hurt...I mostly mean them. But I don't stab people in the back.

Holtz: You're an honest man. I trust you. And you can trust me.

    Wesley: It's funny. I don't.

Holtz: Well, your problem isn't me right now. - Your problem is, your friend is going to kill his own child. - You know you have to do something about it. - You know if you don't, I will. Don't misunderstand me. I won't stand by while an innocent child is murdered - but I won't attack and endanger other innocent lives unless I'm forced to.

Wesley: How long do I have?

Holtz: I'll give you one day. You may not trust me, but I trust you to do what's right. One day. After that... - everyone will get hurt.

Lorne: So, Sammy's at the Flamigo, and Frank, Dino, Peter, Joey, and Shirley are all front row center. Well, Sammy starts singing 'I Did It My Way' then he stops and says 'I can't sing this song in front of you, Frank.' The crowd loves it. They're laughing. Ha, ha, ha, ha. So, then Frank calls out 'hey, you're short, you're one-eyed, and I heard somewhere you're Jewish. Don't be intimidated!' The crowd goes wild! So, how'd it go?

Gunn: The Wraith-ers are no more.

    Angel: Tore 'em apart.

    Fred: Literally.

Lorne: He has been so good the whole time his daddy's been gone. Do you miss your daddy? He's right here. Hey, Angel, I think Connor needs some papa-love.

Angel: He needs a lot of things. All day, every day.

Lorne: Well, yeah. That's kind of how kids...

Angel: Connor needs a bath, Connor needs a bottle, what Connor needs is to grow up!

    Lorne: Is something wrong?

Angel: Gosh, no, Lorne, everything's just great! I got a kid that cries, pees and moans, and never gives me a moment to myself.

    Lorne: Oh, it's alright.

Angel: It's really not. Connor, shut up!

Fred: Don't yell at him. He's just a baby!

Angel: He keeps it up he's not gonna be a baby for long!

Gunn: You better get a grip right now!

Angel: What's wrong with me? Something's not right.'

    Gunn: You could say that.

Lorne: Ah, I couldn't help but notice - when did you start drinking so much blood?

Angel: I don't know. A few days ago.

Fred: Where did you get it?

Angel: Same butcher as always. It's - it's pig's blood. This last batch just seemed so much more...

    Gunn: What?

    Angel: Tasty.

Gunn: You were all hyped this morning. Then you went all Tyson on those demons. Then you kinda crashed. Then you had another drink, then you started throwing things.

Fred: Mm-hmm, just like my aunt Viola and her Southern Comfort.

Angel: Hey. Vampire. Need to drink something red. Doesn't make me a blood-aholic.

Lorne: Not unless someone's spiking your drink.

    Fred: Let's find out.

Wesley: Oh, for god's sake. I know you're better at following people than this. So, what's the play?

Justine: I just... need to talk to you. I'm alone. He doesn't know that I'm... I wanna talk to you about him.

Wesley: Holtz? Great guy, not overly tall. - Is this where you offer to help me behind his back?

Justine: Do you believe in anything? Or is it all just a big scam to you?

Wesley: You're a soldier, fight to the death kind. I respect that. You work for a man, who you think is noble and good. I respect that. Trouble is, he's not.

Justine: You work with a vampire.

Wesley: Who in fact is noble and good. Quirky, but there it is. Holtz talks about 'justice' and it's stirring, but what he wants is revenge. He's driven by it, blinded by it, and if you, me, or anyone else gets in his way, he'll kill for it.

Justine: You're wrong. You don't know him. Everything that he's done for me, for all of us...

Wesley: Sounds like a nice cult.

Justine: He gave you his word. He'll keep it. You're the one who's blind.

    Wesley: How so?

Justine: What you're about to do to your friend? I imagine it's easier to hate Holtz than yourself.

Wesley: There's enough to go around for both him and me. - Be careful.

Gunn: You wanna hold him? He's sleeping.

Angel: Maybe that's not such a good idea right now.

Fred: So, there is more to pig's blood than meets the eye. There's just a trace of...

Angel: Human blood in it. I can feel it. It's his. - It's Connor's.

Gunn: How do you know that?

Angel: The past couple of days he's... smelled like food.

Lorne: So, they've been feeding you your own son's blood so you'd get the taste of it and want more.

    Fred: Who's 'they'?

    Angel: Who do you think?

Lilah: Like a cat. Can't hear you. But I'm starting to feel you when you're near. Isn't that nice and creepy? How'd you find me?

    Angel: Your assistant.

Lilah: I'll have his arms broken.

    Angel: Already taken care of.

    Lilah: And am I next?

Angel: You know, Lilah, there are so many things I could do to you. With transfusions I could keep you alive indefinitely. I do have some expertise in this area. - My own son. How could you?

    Lilah: It's my job.

Angel: Don't you ever get tired of the whole femme fatale act? Whiskey, straight, lots of it. How about just once - you talk to me like a person?

Lilah: Look, I've been doing this a long damn time. I've had to be better, smarter, quicker than every man in Wolfram and Hart.

Angel: So, it's a feminist thing. It's on her.

Lilah: It's a survival thing. I made a lot of devil's bargains and I stuck to them. As a result, I live somewhat dangerously, and quiet comfortably. My mother, who no longer recognizes me, has the best room at the clinic. I get up every morning, put on my game face and do what I have to.

Angel: Thing about a game face, Lilah, you wear it long enough, it stops being something you can put on and take off.

Lilah: Wow. We've spent so much time and money on you. You're so pivotal to the coming cataclysm, that I sometimes forget how dense you can be. The game face - the one I worked so hard to get - I became that years ago. Just like you've become simpering and good from yours. You're the new poster boy for human. Thank you very much. I don't want it.

Angel: Hmm, speaking as one non-human to another: sorry if I hit a nerve.

Lilah: You think you can awaken some buried spark of decency in my? Is that the way you help your helpless? - I'm not helpless. I'm glad you came along, because I was sitting here 'what's it all about' and now I know. It is all about making the rest of your eternal life miserable. Shall we drink to that?

Sahjhan: You back-stabbing, traitorous bitch. I have a lot of work to do. I can't be in every time/space at once, and here I find you drinking with my sworn enemy.

Angel: Sworn enemy? Really? Have we met? Because I don't remember swearing.

    Lilah: Sahjhan, he found me.

Angel: So - you all are in cahoots. Ethereal time-traveling demon - you're the screwball that brought Holtz back. - How's that working out? He's not very fond of demons, is he?

Sahjhan: You will learn nothing from me.

Lilah: Other than that you're his sworn enemy, who brought Holtz back, and when that didn't work out, you came to me. Idiot.

Sahjhan: Hey! You think my life is easy? I'm jumping from one dimension to another. I don't always have sound. Sometimes it's just a visual. Saw you two sitting here all chummy.

Angel: So, why do you wanna kill me?

Lilah: He wouldn't tell me either. Not that I need a reason. I was just curious. Did he boink your demon bride? Eat your mother? You really don't know who he is.

    Sahjhan: You will pay.

    Angel: For what?

Lilah: Well, whatever his grudge, I think you just made him madder.

    Wesley: Angel.

    Angel: Where is everybody?

Wesley: Fred and Gunn went for food. Lorne - had to go out. I'm watching the baby. In fact, I packed up some overnight things. We talked about me taking Connor to the park and the one across from my place is... It's always full of kids. I thought he could spend the night with me.

Angel: That's - probably a really good idea.

    Wesley: You wanna say good-bye?

Angel: Okay. Hey. He-he. Sleep tight, big guy. Daddy will see you real soon. Just keep and eye... I check on him a lot during the night. You got his pediatrician's number, his baby formula?

    Wesley: I've got all that.

Angel: You ever hear of a time-traveling demon by the name of Sahjhan?

    Wesley: No.

Angel: The guy that brought Holtz here. He thinks I'm his sworn enemy. I don't know him from Adam. Can you hit the books before you go?

Gunn: Hey. Where is Lorne? He better show his green face pronto, or Fred'll eat his hoagie.

Fred: I will not! I already had two. - Unless he's really not here?

Angel: He had to go out.

    Gunn: Where?

Angel: Where did you say he went?

Wesley: I don't know. He didn't say - exactly. I think he had to see a client. You know, I've got better reference materials for your demon at home, and Connor is getting sleepy. Why don't I look into it there?

Angel: Ah, okay. Just call me if you find something.

Wesley: I guess, ah - I'll see everyone tomorrow.

Angel: Hey, Wes? What's the closest emergency room to your place?

Wesley: Drew Medical. One minute away. Top infant care center. Don't worry.

Angel: Well, my first whole night without the kid. This'll be good for both of us. He can bond with his Uncle Wes... I can get some rest.

Gunn: We'll stay up with you.

Gunn: It doesn't make any sense. Why would Wes do a thing like that? You must have read him wrong.

Lorne: No, I read him right. And I've got the gash on my noggin to prove it.

Fred: He isn't answering his cell, pager, or home.

    Angel: Where is he?

Lorne: Shouldn't we be getting these guys to a hospital or morgue?

Angel: No. - Holtz knew Connor wasn't here when he walked through that door. He would have torn the place apart top to bottom. He was stalling.

Lorne: Buying Wesley some time to get away.

Angel: Holtz is the key. I want Holtz. If I find Wesley with him...

Gunn: Angel, we don't know the whole story here. I don't think you should get too pumped...

Angel: I'm not interested in what you think!

    Lorne: Hey, easy guys!

    Angel: He took my son.

Gunn: I know this is life and death. I'm just saying, let's get...

    Angel: He took my son!

Gunn: You better get your damn hands off of me!

Fred: Stop it! Stop it both of you! This isn't helping, damn it! Back off! - There is only one thing that matters right now, and that is 'where is Connor?'

    Holtz: It went well?

Justine: Very well. But you're paying for my dental work.

Holtz: Hello, son. I'm you're father. And that strong lady with the black eye is your mother. Your name is Steven Franklin Thomas. And you're going to grow up with me on a little ranch in the middle of nowhere. What's it like in Utah?

    Justine: It's pretty.

    Holtz: Let's go.

Holtz: Come any closer and I'll snap his neck! Who are they?

    Lilah: They work for me.

    Holtz: Ah. The attorney.

Lilah: Yes. You are gonna give us the kid, Captain Holtz.

    Angel: Don't!

Lilah: That's cute. You'd rather see the fanatic with the baby than us? Those are automatic weapons pointed at you. They didn't have them in your time. They fire sixteen bullets per second.

Angel: And if they were going to use them they would have already. They want the baby alive.

Holtz: Something we all have in common.

Sahjhan: Not all of us. You do not want the child alive. You want the child dead. That was our arrangement.

Lilah: Yeah. I'm a lawyer. Have you met me? We have a new arrangement. I'm keeping the baby.

    Sahjahn: You can't do that!

Lilah: Ignore the loud mouth with the bad skin. He's impotent in this dimension.

    Holtz: We're leaving.

Lilah: No one's going anywhere. Don't shoot.

Angel: Yeah. You really don't want to. Your bullets won't kill me. But mine will kill you - and her first.

Holtz: He'll be dead before I hit the ground.

    Angel: I know.

Holtz: So. I'm going to leave now, right? With me, he gets to live, anyone tries to take him, he dies.

    Angel: Take him.

Sahjhan: Woah! No! What is wrong of you people?

Holtz to: I will take good care of him, as though he were my own son. He'll never even know you existed. Don't come after me. - You will though, won't you? Maybe I should just...

    Angel: No. Please. Take him.

Sahjhan: Lekko najine forkahdio! What you are looking into is the Quortoth, the darkest of the dark worlds. So - I can widen the portal and you can all be swallowed up by a world you can not begin to imagine - or you can keep your word and kill that child. Now! Don't say I didn't warn you.

    Lilah: Kill it.

    Angel: No!

    Justine: Daniel! Daniel!

    Angel: No! NO!

Sahjhan: Wow. I didn't count on that. Kinda takes care of my problem. Forkahdio najine lekko. All right then. Have a good summer.

Lilah: Hmph! Well, I'm looking at a mountain of paperwork.

Commander: Should we do something about...

Lilah: Yes, we should. - We should let him suffer.

    Angel: Connor.

    "Perfect"
This is the key episode that changes everything in this series. After Angel seems to have achieved some happiness in his life by becoming a father, this is taken away by those who can't forgive him for his past. Is like WOW! The betrayal from the one that we can call Angel's best friend (Wesley) was totally unexpected yet understandable of why he was doing it. In the end of it, we feel the sadness and emptiness Angel felt when he saw he had lost his son. This episode leads to the next one in which we can feel Angel's rage and search for his son no matter what the consecuences are of doing so.
  • Sleep tight, don't let dimension hopping crazies who kidnap your baby bite.

    "Perfect"
I think it's safe to say, at least I think so, that season three of "Angel" was, without a doubt, it's best season. All five of the seasons were great, but season three was the one at the top of my list. The storylines were great, the action was great, everything was great. And it is episodes like this one that just re-affirm this. Season 3, to me, was the show's strongest and most thrilling year. The Connor storyline was ingenious, even though it became less so once the 16 year old Connor showed up. The introduction of Holtz, and Wesley's complete change, were all glorious as well. "Sleep Tight" is one the season's best, strongest, and most exhilirating episodes. It's also one of my top favorite episodes of the series as a whole. This is definitley the best of Angel. It has incredible excitement, adventure, danger, action, and things that happen that just leave you breathless, gasping, and wanting more. Really, this episode is set up and written in a perfect 'season cliffhanger' kind of way. It has all of the classic markings of one. Wesley's taking of baby Connor and his subsequent throat slashing, and Holtz jumping into the portal with Connor going to god knows where, leaving Angel laying there on the ground seeing his baby and his mortal enemy jumping into the unknown. It was brilliant. If this was the season finale, and not "Tomorrow", then it would of been one of the greatest. So, how did it all go down in this incredible episode?...

Wesley now knows what the fulfillment of the prophecy is. "The father will kill the son". He tries to see around it, but it is clear that this is the message and there is no way around it. What Wesley then believes he has to do, sets up a string of tragic events that will change the Angel team forever. Not only is this episode everything I said above, but it also deals with betrayal, loss, and vengeance. What Wesley does with Connor is surprising, but on the other hand, was Wesley right?. Wes decides to take Connor and leave Los Angeles so that Angel doesn't harm him. This is not surprising as the whole gang are starting to notice changes in Angel. Angel continues to drink his blood, unknowing that it has been spiked, thanks to Wolfram And Hart, with the blood of Connor. Creating the blood thirst in Angel by drinking human blood. Everyone starts to notice the affect and changes it is having on him. He is acting differently, and he is acting a bit over-excited with going out and killing demons. But most surprising of all to them is his behavior towards Connor. Angel was once a loving and protective father. A father who would do anything for his new baby son. Now, he acts like he is just annoyed with the kid. Once they realize what has been happening to him, it is quite thrilling.

Again, is Wesley in the wrong?. When you learn that your vampire boss is supposed to kill his own son, what would you do?. When there is no way for you stop him or a prophecy, what would be your choices?. What would you have left to choose from?. Holtz gives Wes 24 hours to deliver Connor to him, to save him from Angel, but it is clear that Wes has plans of his own. I think anybody in Wes' place would do anything they could to save a poor, innocent, defenseless baby. But the mere fact that this is happening, and it's Wesley, just makes it all the more shocking and surprising. But it gets worse. Oh boy, does it get a whole lot worse. Holtz's recruit, Justine, goes from a somewhat sympatheitc lost soul who hooks up with Holtz for vengeance, into a slimy, cold, unsympathetic killer. For what she does to Wes, well, it was unthinkable and cold hearted. The scene where she confronts Wes and takes Connor may just be one of the most chilling and unexpected moments in the history of the show. What follows afterwards is a new plan in Holtz's mission. Holtz realises that his vengeance is not to kill Angel for what he did to his family all those years ago. Angel would be dead and not know the pain Holtz wants him to feel. So, what can he do?. Holtz realises that the only thing he can do to inflict the kind of pain Angel did on him way back when, is to take his kid away from him. Just like Angel and Darla took his(and his wife)years ago. This is the perfect punishment. The punishment that Holtz sees fit. We also find out that Sahjhan has a long standing feud with Angel. This, of course, is a surprise to Angel, who has no idea what he is talking about.

The acting here is phenomenal. What else would you expect from a Joss Whedon show?. David Boreanaz does some of his best work here. The end with Holtz jumping through the portal with Connor was great. You could see it all just in Boreanaz's face, without there being words. He knows what he did to Holtz and his family back then, and he knows that everything that has happened up to this point with Holtz is stuff that he created. Stuff that he has brought down upon himself. Boreanaz does great work in this entire episode. Alexis Denisof continues to evolve in his role of Wesley, and he has become the one actor to watch on the show. Poor Wes has been through a lot. There has probably no one else on the show who has gone through what he has. Wes has been filled with pain, been battered, and so on. And now the one stable thing in his life may just be gone forever. It's sad and tragic, but it made for some of the most incredible drama ever seen on this show.

In the end, "Sleep Tight" is pulse pounding and mesmerizing. This is everything the show has going for it rolled up into one fantastic episode. Powerfully written, well acted, and brilliantly shot. This is a high point for season three, and it's as good as "Angel" gets.
