    THE PRICE

    The Good;
Very much an 'in the bottle episode'. Do like Fred drinking the snowglobe.

    The Bad;
I think the Schlucks (or however you spell it) are deeply stupid, this doesn't really work for me

    Best line:
    Cordy; "We have a pool?"

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
The poor guy crumbling. Also Lilah's assertion that when a co-worker at WR&H pats you on the back you should check to feel for the knife.

    Questions and observations;
Drawing from Alien, Invasion of the Bodysnatchers and The Thing a great deal. Our first appearance of grown up Connor for good or ill. Love Lilah's tarantula, once asked Stephanie Romanov at a convention did she have a problem with that scene but she said no, they're 'furry like a kitten'? Groo's mother was called Pomegranate? 'Puppy-dog' is how CC describes the Groo and how she described Jesse in the first ep of Buffy. Gunn once again demonstrates his loathing of creepy-crawlies. 'Thaunmogenisis' is also the term used for the demon created when Buffy was ressurected. Love Lorne's hat. Note when Fred drinks from from the snowglobe she cuts her lip a little. Powerful scene between Gunn and Wes. First real signs of CC's greater power. Lorne uses the traditional Buffyverse line "Standing right here".
Marks out of 10; 5/10 not one of my favourites

  • The Price

    10
    "Perfect"
The Price was a perfect and classic episode of Angel because it had the becareful what you say theme which made both Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer great series. Angel discovers that there are consequences to the spell he performed with Lilah to find Connor and kill Sashan. I enjoyed watching this episode as we see Cordelia continuing to be there for Angel as Groo is starting to feel left in the background. I thought Gunn made a good though difficult decision to visit Wesley, who wasn't too thrilled himself. I think there was a lot of character development, and we got to see a new power of Cordelias. The ending was pretty shocking and I can't wait to watch the next episode!!!!!!!
  • The Destroyer

    8.9
    "Great"
The Price is a great episode that whilst seeming like a filler and certainly starting off as one, is actually one of the most important episodes of the series as a whole, as Angel receives a cryptic message that The Destroyer is coming and then to learn that The Destroyer is actually his own son, Connor.

We see Angel still in a lull over his loss of Connor and just wanting to get back to normal and try to move on. We get a small reference to Connor as Angel talks about the glass orb (forgot it's name!) he bought for Connor so he could see the snow. It's apparent here that Angel is still going through terrible grief but is going to great efforts to repress it. However he doesn't have to wait long for something to take his mind off it; enter body sucking slug demons.

I thought the demons looked pretty cool and great CGI, considering this is 6 years old and on a limited budget. I liked that they communicated through Fred and their chilling messages of the Destroyer are intrigueing and vague. Amy Acker was excellent in her portrayal of possessed Fred and this had some similarities with Fred being destroyed creating Illyria in Season 5. The stunted speech she uses is reminscent of Illyria's also.

Gunn annoyed me a bit in this episode with his "Connor is dead" speech. He was just completely insensitive and really aggravated me. I wanted Angel to smack him across the room but no luck. I did like his determination to rescue Fred though and it showed that he really cares about her. Wesley annoyed me too with his whole "You abandoned me" thing- eh? Doesn't he remember kidnapping his best friend's son? Wesley needs to acknowledge some blame here and we know why he did it- him saying that Gunn's knows nothing was wrong, as it's pretty easy to guess. The ending was a real shock- the Destroyer appearing out of the portal, killing a huge demon and then calling Angel "Dad" even though he's 17/18 years old and Connor's about 5 months old? Wow. The start of the teenage Connor arc begins here. The Price is a great episode with some great scenes and a cliffhanger ending. Not to be missed.
  • Hi Dad

    10
    "Perfect"
This was the first episode I ever saw of Angel and it was a really weird place in the story line to start but I loved it and it got me hooked on this show and any thing else that Joss Whedon touches. I like how eager Angel is at the beginning of the episode for a case and the demons from Quortoth answer his desire really quickly. I love when he is trying to say that it isn't his fault and then the guy goes, he is coming after you. That is a great moment in this episode.

It is nice to see the team suffering without Wesley when they are trying to figure out what is going on and Fred is so cute in this episode. When Gunn goes to Wesley to get him help, he is so great and shows that she is his priority over all things even Angel. Then at the end when the demon comes through and Connor comes in right after and delivers the line "Hi Dad" which is probably one of my favorite lines from the series.

    I love this episode.
  • Invasion of The Body Suckers!

    9.2
    "Superb"
The Price-When a client suddenly begins acting erratically, Angel and company discover that he has been infected by a strange, slug-like creature which takes over bodies and eventually kills the host. These creatures have infested the Hyperion, and the gang must find a way to destroy them before any more people are hurt.

An errie and spooky episode with great plot and unforseen surprises! Angel using dark magic to try to get Connor has some dangerous effect on the ones he loves. Those slimy slugs from the Quor-toh dimenson where just disgusting and the way they enter the mouth, then drain all the water in you just gives you goosebumps. The special effects were great and the make-up with the cracks and dryiness of the skin is also disturbing. This episode you get to realizes how huge the hotel really is! There's a large ballroom, kitchen, and many more rooms and areas never before seen. We get to see more of how much Wesley as truly chnaged in such a dark way, as he hardly cares for his former friends anymore. Amy Acker also gives a great performance as Fred is under the control of one of the slugs. Also, the revelation of Cordelia's demonic powers is a stunning scene as she glows in this amazing light. The episode ends on a shocking note as out of the dimensional ripe goes out a hideous large creature only to be killed by a young boy who comes out of the ripe a second after. The boy than look as Angel and says "Hey Dad!"...Connor! All and All, a fantastic episode which is sometimes underrated but is one of the best this season and one of my favorites.
  • 7.5
    "Good"
The table-setter for the end of season 3. Seemingly just another day in the life of Angel ... dealing with the Connor and Wesley aftermath, evil strikes, yada yada yada. 'Cept this evil is running from the Destroyer, which, unbenownst to team Angel is Connor. Anyone who reads my Angel reviews knows that my obsession is the Wesley/Fred "love" thang. This episode kinda hints at Fred's feelings toward Wes, as she's the only one who wants him to come back to Angel investigations ... which is also leading to a small rift in her seeimngly perfect relationship with Gunn. In addition to the return of Connor, this episode also shows the decaying relationship between Cordelia and Groo, which is uberlame as Cordelia seemingly can't even express concern for another man without Groo getting all pissy jealous. This will end up leading to the final revelation of feelings between Angel and Cordelia... yeah, I've seen all the episodes, I know they never get to say it, but they both know. Finally, part of the never to be relationship between Cordelia and Angel, Cordelia reveals her "higher powers". Good times.
  • Connor is baaaack!

    9.1
    "Superb"
This was a great episode! Slugs infest the hotel, and these creatures mean business. They enter a persons body and suck all of the moisture out until you are dust. Fun huh? Unfortunately one of them takes over Fred and we are afraid we might lose her because the gang doesnt want to take her out of the hotel for fear that the slugs will get out into the world. Fortunately, Gunn swallows his pride and goes to see a sullen Wes. Wes isnt about to help until he finds out Fred is the one in trouble. Gunn cures Fred and Cordy goes all glowy and gets rid of the slugs. Happy ending...and then a monster comes out of the crack in reality that lives in the lobby of the hotel. The monster is taken down quickly by a boy who comes out of the reality crack (lol)and Angel knows immediately who it is; Connor.

    "Great"
slugs are not the most interesting they could do but the episode turned out much better than you would think.

while angel stil has his grieve for losing connor he has to move on. what is so good about this episode is that we see more of the hotel. and the kitchen and everything. also fred was likeable and she got posessed by a slug and her skin riped open. all pretty cool! but the end beats it all. some monster is coming in through a portal that angel opened and it's angels son. connor ready to kill his daddy.
  • Connor!

    10
    "Perfect"
After an incredible episode that I particularly loved Connor is reintroduced in the series. This episode was filled with all the sci-fi charm that we had come to love in the series. These episodes that mix the sci-fi with the drama tend to be the best because it can be hard to balance the two. This defenitely ranks in my top episodes of the series.
  • The problem of this episode is that it isn't really catchy. after watching it you forget most of it. but it's a nice episode. enjoyable and gives Fred a bigger meaning for the show. but the best of it is the end where Angel's son comes back as a teenager.

    The Price

This episode is pretty cool. Angel has to deal with the consequences and demon slugs. they almost kill Fred as well. but the biggest highlights are Cordy getting all glowy and Connor coming back as a teenager.

Cut to Angel's room. they are gonna built it up again and the gang wants to change it but Angel wants it the way it used to be and he sees some stuff of Connor and gets upset again and they haven't had customers in a long time. Angel goes out of the room. cut to a customer walking in but nobody is there and something goes into his mouth and changes him. when Angel comes down the man acts weird and he goes away.

    the credits start

cut to Cordy going over to Angel and she wants to talk to him but he doesn't wanna say anything until he does and that his head was filled with rage and he's mad cause now she knows and she says that he should have called her cause maybe her demon self could have done something. both are sad but Angel says he wants to move on and he asks Cordy to find a client. cut to that guy in a place and he keeps drinking and says that we're thirsty. cut to W&H where Gavin congratulates Lilah and they are still enemies and she says that she was been through everything and that she saw everything and then they stop being nice and go each their own way.

cut to Fred and Gunn talking about Wesley but Gunn says Angel would kill him and is better not to say his name ever again. cut to Cordy and Groo cleaning and she tells Groo to get something and Fred wants to talk to Cordy but Cordy doesn't cause Angel doesn't want to hear it and Angel's feelings are the only ones that matters to her at the moment. Groo was listening and he's hurt. then Cordy gets a very strange vision. then comes Lorne and takes them to a place where that guy is drinking and it says it's thirsty and they grab him to go to the hotel again. cut to the hotel and they put the man and Angel doesn't want to talk to Cordy when the man stands up and says that it's all Angel's fault and happening because of him and falls on the ground turning into dust.

Angel doesn’t understand and the something comes out and it's some sort of slug and the sandman lies on the pentagram Angel made when trying to get back his son. Angel wants to find the thing before it gets into the world and Fred has to search it up. cut to Lorne and Angel going a place and Lorne says he told him so for the consequences but Angel says he would do it again because it was his son. They arrive to a place with the slug and they try to kill it but it still escaped. cut to Fred and she hates going through those books because she doesn't get them unlike others and Gunn says that she has to get used to getting good and they can fight only one slug. cut to some more slugs arriving.

cut to Lilah's office needing of a password and grabs a spider who does it for her. then comes Gavin and he tells about Angel and if the slugs kill him the bad guys won't be happy cause Lilah did the spell with him. cut to Groo and Cordy and he tells her about that she only cares about Angel's feelings but Cordy says no she cares about him in another way and then Groo sees a slug and tries to kill it but it escapes and then they see Angel and Lorne and both saw one. cut to Angel saying that their gonna shut off the lights and Gunn is gonna do that and they leave Fred behind. they go to the basement and Gunn shuts off the lights while Fred is all alone and a slug attacks her and she screams and it goes into her.

cut to the gang going to a place they have never been before. then cut to Gunn going back to Fred and he noticed she's acting weird and wants to go to vacation with her but sees that she starts to drink water 'we're thirsty'. cut to the guys going to the room but don't know where the sound comes from. then comes Gunn and Fred and she says it wants to get out but they can't and Gunn wants to take her but Angel says no and Gunn says it's all his fault. then they hear something under the ground and cut the ground and see all those slugs and they go out. they run into a place and try to lock the slugs out and Fred realised Gunn is gone.

cut to Lilah going out but Gavin comes in and says that he spoke to Lindwood and that he'll deal with her when she gets back but for now to let everyone die. he makes Lilah look like a fool. cut to Gunn going over to Wes to ask for help. cut to Angel grabbing Fred's drink and he wants to talk to the slug and it says that it's scared of the destroyer and it's coming for Angel. cut to Gunn and Wesley and Gunn tells him about what happened and it's Fred who's infected and Wesley grabs alcohol and says that he fought to live because he wanted to see his friends and tell them what happened. he gives Gunn the bottle and says he's helping cause of Fred but tells him to never come back again.

cut to Angel taking Fred's water away and Angel tells the rest to bring her to a hospital or else she'll die. Angel is gonna give the slugs water and the rest goes away but Cordy stays. cut to the guys bringing Fred and Gunn comes inside and asks them to give him Fred and he makes her drink and she drinks but then spits. cut to Angel and Cordy and they fight but one gets stuck in Cordy's hand. cut back and Fred after drinking so much she spits it out and Groo kills it. cut to Cordy and she suddenly starts to glow and she kills all those slugs and the lights so on and they go back and tell them that it was Cordy. Angel and Gunn have another confrontation but Angel understands Gunn and lets him walk out of it. but they remember about the destroyer and it's coming and Fred says now and a huge demon comes out and then a boy too and kills the demon 'Hi dad'

    Black Out

    ----------

    Best episode quotes:

Groo: "Sunburst splendor" is a hue more worthy of a champion. Or perhaps this unique one called... "Purr-Pleh."

Angel: Purple. And yet you had no problem pronouncing "Pomegranate."

Groo: It was my mother's name.

Angel: Don't know why I bought this for him. A whim, I guess... Thought he'd like to look at it. The snow. Doesn't ever snow in Southern California.

    Cordelia: Did, once.

Fred: It's funny. Well, sad, actually...

Fred: I keep expecting to find... I mean, it's weird seeing Angel sitting at that desk.

Gunn: It was his when I got here. Seems right that it's his again.

Fred: Yeah. But, thing's have cooled down a little since... I'm just saying maybe it's time to... Look, he doesn't have to forgive Wesley.

Gunn: Glad you think so, 'cuz not happenin'.

Fred: No. Right. He shouldn't. But... isn't there some way to, I don't know... come back from this?

Gunn: No unless Wes comes back with that baby under his arm. And even then, Angel'd probably kill him on principle.

Fred: Y--You don't really think that.

Gunn: He took the man's son. Probably best we never mention the guy's name again.

Cordelia: Well, I give up... Tried soaking it out, tried scrubbing it out... No question, we got ring around the lobby. I say we toss in the towel and buy a big ass throw rug. Who's with me?

Groo: That honor is mine, Princess.

Cordelia: Aww. Groo, honey... Do me a favor and dump out the bucket.

    Fred: Cordelia...

Cordelia: He is such a sweetie. So loyal. And loving. Like a puppy-dog.

    Fred: Cordy...?

Cordelia: I know. That didn't sound very good. But he is. A puppy-dog. A sexy, well-built, go-all-night, puppy-dog. Okay, that sounded worse.

    Fred: Cor...?

Cordelia: No. You want me to say something to Angel about Wesley. Sorry. Can't. Won't.

Fred: Why? Why can't you? You've known them both longer than anybody. Angel would listen to you...

Cordelia: Probably. But he doesn't want to hear it. Which is why I'm not going to burden him--

Fred: Look, whatever he did... It's Wesley. You care about it. I know you do. Can you imagine the pain he's in, how horrible he must be feeling--

Cordelia: Angel's feelings are the only ones I care about. He's my priority.

    Angel: "Wee..."

Gunn: Glad you're having fun with this.

Angel: No. He kept saying "we." This morning is was "we have to go." Now, "we're thirsty..."

    Cordelia: Okay, so he’s pretentious

Angel: I don't want to hear it.

    Lorne: I didn't say anything.

Angel: Let's keep it that way.

    Lorne: Well, was I wrong?

Angel: Lorne... It's my mess. I'm cleaning it up. What more--?

Lorne: I warned you, Angel-face. You mess with powers of darkness--

Angel: There's a price to pay. I know. There's always a price. Question is... Is it one worth paying?

    Lorne: So... Was this?

Angel: That spell I did was for nothing. I didn't find my son. Now he's gone forever. So, you ask me, was it worth it? Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Because he was my son.

    Fred: God... I hate this...

Gunn: I'm with you... That creepy crawler was seriously messed up. With those feelers or whatever sticking out of

its face... slithering around like a worm with its slimy--

Fred: N-no, Charles... I meant... I hate going through these books.

Gunn: Oh. Oh, yeah. Books. That's... rough.

Fred: Everything on "Thaumogenesis" is... is so cryptic. And full of words I never heard of, like "amulatives" and... and I have to keep cross- referencing "Chaldean" with "Accadian majicks"... Are you listening to me?

Gunn: Yeah. "Accordion music." Go on...

Fred: I mean, ask me to research stuff on wave-particle dualities or the Schrodinger Equation and I'm a hellcat. But this.. Angel's just go to realize that I'm just not as qualified for this as... Some people.

Gunn: Yeah, well, "some people" aren't around anymore. So, you're just gonna have to learn to get good at it.

Cordelia: Poor Angel. It's eating away at him.

Groo: You are having another vision, Princess?

Cordelia: What? No. I meant... Knowing it was the spell he performed, trying to find Connor, that made this... whatever it is we're hunting. Knowing that it caused a man's death.

    Groo: He is your priority.

    Cordelia: What?

Groo: You said... earlier. Angel's feelings were your only concern. He is all that matters.

Cordelia: Oh. Oh, no, Grooey... I-- I meant, work priority. Work. You see? You. You're my... other... stuff priority. You get that, right?

Gunn: Hang on, baby. We're getting you to a hospital.

Fred: No!!! Charles! We... No... It wants that... To escape. Spread. You can't let it... let us... It... It.. will... kill... Oh, it really doesn't like you.

    Angel: Feeling's mutual.

Cordelia: Oh my God! We have a pool?!

Angel: I wanna talk to that thing inside of you. Now! I wanna know what you are.

    Fred: We... We are... thirsty...

Angel: Work with me, Fred. Make it answer me. What do you want here?

Fred: To live... To live... To drink... And be merry. It hurts. Us. We have to get out.

Cordelia: Sounds more like they want in.

Fred: Have to flee. It brings pain... Such pain...

Lorne: "It?" What happened to "we?" What's with the pronoun switcheroo?

Angel: What are you fleeing from?

Fred: The bringer of torment... agony...death... The Destroyer.

Cordelia: Oh, that's a name you just don't want to hear.

Angel: Why is this "Destroyer" after you?

Fred: It's not... It's coming after you... Aaaangel.

Gunn: Look, I don't have time to get into it with you. I don't even wanna be here. The hotel's infested with something. Some kinda... slug, jellyfish thing. We don't know what they are or how to kill them.

Wesley: Well, now, that is a problem.

Gunn: These things... there's hundreds of 'em. They get inside you. And... and soak up all the moisture in your

    body. They drink you alive.

Wesley: Why come to me? I expect Angel'll find a way to kill them eventually.

Gunn: That's not what I'm looking for. I need to know how to get these slugs out of someone once they're infected.

    Force it out somehow...

    Wesley: Sorry.

Gunn: Don't give me that! If you saw what these things do...

Wesley: I wish I could help you.

    Gunn: Wes--

Wesley: Sorry you wasted your time--

Gunn: It's Fred! What, we're gonna have a drink now? Did you hear what I said? She's dying!

Wesley: I was dying. I knew it laying in that dirty field, life pouring out of my throat. Do you know why I fought to stay alive?

Gunn: Wes, I don't have time--!

Wesley: I needed to live to see my friends again. To explain to the people I trusted... and loved... my side of what happened.

    Gunn: We know what--

Wesley: You don't know anything. I'll help because it's Fred. But just so we understand each other... Don't ever come here again. None of you are welcome here.

Lorne: Good? We're not good. Everybody forgetting a little unexpected company on the way. Goes by the initials of "The Destroyer?"

Fred: The Destroyer! I remember... The Destroyer's coming...

Cordelia: Right. We got that. Any idea when?

    Fred: Um... I think...Now.

    Connor: Hi. Dad.
