They then repackaged each of the six chapters as one-hour episodes to be rebroadcast in the week following each premiere. Perestroika was broken down into "Stop Moving!," "Beyond Nelly" and "Heaven, I'm in Heaven." These ran Monday-Wednesday at 8 pm E/P and played again Thursday-Saturday at 10 pm E/P December 15-20, 2003.

This episode is based on Tony Kushner's play, Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, Part Two: Perestroika (1992). This part won the 1994 Tony Award for Best Play.
