Slappy takes Skippy to the movies to see Bumbie, The Dearest Deer. Skippy is enjoying the film until a hunter kills Bumbie's mother and he bursts into tears. Slappy tries calming Skippy, but the audience begins to get annoyed by Skippy's sobbing, and then a forest fire scene frightens Skippy and makes him cry harder. Slappy carries the uncontrollable Skippy out of the theater and tries to explain to him that no one gets hurt in cartoons, and that she knew the actress who played Bumbie's mother and that she is alive and well. To prove her point, Slappy takes Skippy visit her via airplane, where Skippy starts bawling whenever "Bumbie's Mom" is spoken. Later in the ride, they switch to a bus when Skippy gets airsickness, and then they manage to get to a trailer park in New Mexico (following a brief Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cameo), where they meet the actress Veena Wallene, who is all excited to see her old friend Slappy again. Skippy however, doesn't believe that Veena played the mother because she's old. But then Veena acts out a scene from the movie which makes Skippy happy, and things are all right once again. But on the plane for home, Slappy and Skippy watch the in-flight movie Old Yellow, about a dog who is shot and killed, and Skippy starts crying all over again.
