Here is my review for a very good Animaniacs cartoon to watch. It's called "Hearts Of Twilight", and it is about Mr. Plotz hiring the Warners (Yakko, Wakko, & Dot) to go to a mysterious soundstage known as Studio 64 and stop a movie director from making a movie that cost the studio a fortune to make. Yakko narrates the whole adventure as they find Studio 64. When they make it, they end up getting captured by the film crew, who is acting like a native tribe. The Warners easily get out, and they meet the movie's director (who is actually Mr. Director from the cartoon "Hello, Nice Warners", except he's bald and fat). The Warners manage to stop the director by getting him squashed over and over with a huge mallet as part of the film's ending. The first time I saw this cartoon I thought it was good, and it still is each time I watch it. If you haven't seen it, I recommend you get "Animaniacs: Vol. 1"; it can be found in that box set, as well as other great episodes.moreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • When the Warners finally get to the soundstage, the film is on the 6437th take of the final scene.

    • In the background during the backlot studio tour there is a sign saying that tickets are $27.50, with a few guests screaming in horror at the high price. Ironically, now the price to get into Universal Studios ten years later is close to $70 a person!

  • QUOTES (7)

    ADD QUOTES
    • (Upon meeting the Warners) Jerry Lewis: Look, kids. I don't sign autographs; it cheapens us both. Me, the director, and you, the...whatever-you-are.

    • Dennis Hopper: First you need to say the secret password, man. No one gets to see the director without knowing the password. (Yakko looks at the people chanting "Froylaven") Yakko: Could it be..."froylaven"? Dennis Hopper: They have spoken Froylaven. Go in, we should let them! Dot: (to Yakko) How'd you know? Yakko: It just came to me...

    • Mr. Plotz: Your objective is to get from here to Soundstage 64, there. Any questions? Dot: Do you think I'd look better as a blond? Wakko: Why do cats purr? Yakko: Who do you think is fatter: Perry Mason or Scotty from "Star Trek"?

    • Yakko: Careful, sibs, there could be a trap around here-- (The Warners fall into a pit) Dot: Thankyou, amazing Kreskin.

    • Yakko: (narrating) We'd each been selected for our unique abilities...That's Dot. Her speciality: cuteness. That's Wakko. His speciality: the mallet. That's me. My speciality: two paddle balls at once!

    • (while sneaking into the soundstage, Yakko pulls out two paddle balls) Dot: What are you gonna do with those? Yakko: Nothing. It's just fun!

    • Mr. Director: Hoyl! How'd you... with the going...you were there... but here now... you are...for me to see... how'd you do...? Yakko: You understand any of that? Wakko: I think he said: "Hoyl! How'd you...with the going... you were there...but here now... you are... for me to see...how'd you do...?" Yakko: Thanks for clearing that up.

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • Yakko: The sights we saw... This montage of the Warners driving by a backlot studio tour, including King Kong, Earthquake, and Jaws is a parody of the Universal Studios Backlot Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood which is very simillar.

    • Jerry Lewis: The hurting...the hurting... This is a parody of the last line of "Apocalypse Now", which is, "The horror...the horror..."

    • Episode Plot: The making of Apocalypse Now.
The plot of this episode lampoons the making of Apocalypse Now. The tortuous making of that film and the personal difficulties run into by the film's director Francis Ford Coppola is chronicled in the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse

    • Episode Title: Hearts of Twilight
The title of this episode "Hearts of Twilight" is a reference to the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The film Apocalypse Now is based on this novel.
