  • Good night, Animaniacs...

What a clever way to end the first episode of Animaniacs! In the final cartoon, the characters are wished a good night's sleep in the style of the popular children's book Goodnight Moon. The poem begins with the Narrator (who sounds a lot like Winnie-the-Pooh) setting the scene ("Inside the water tower room/there is a log flume/And a picture of a big baboon...") and continues to introduce most of the prominent recurring characters; including the Warner siblings, Pinky and the Brain (the latter being a little upset at being referred to as a "rat"), Rita and Runt (who has no idea that Rita is the cat being mentioned), the Hip Hippos ("who are incredibly fat"), Mindy and Buttons, Skullhead, the Goodfeathers, and even Dr. Scratchansniff and Hello Nurse. Not only is this a nice homage to Goodnight Moon, but this semi-soothing story seems like a good way for the audience to calm down after the first two chaotic cartoons. A great ending to the first episode of a great show!
