  • Hey, definitely a great true introduction to my favorite characters on the Animaniacs series. Dynamite stuff.

Not much more I can say about this episode other than.... downright awesome stuff. I absolutely adore the ultra-enjoyable chemistry between the street savvy cat, Rita (a major cutey, both in physical appearance and in mixture of tough girl attitude and good heart [then again, I always DID have a fondness for cats]) and the thick-skulled but loyal dog, Runt (he might not be as smart as Rita, but the big lummox MORE THAN makes up for it with a very good and loyal heart [true, he thinks Rita is a dog, but it's still a good and loyal heart the big mutt has in there. :D]). And this is a highly enjoyable showing of their first meeting. Rita had a GREAT song in this (actually, almost all of her songs are great, but you get the idea) and the first meeting was done in a rather logical manner to boot. All in all, surefire dynamite stuff.
  • This episode introduces Rita the too-independent cat, and Runt, the dense mixed breed (sheepdog?) that doesn't follow directions, probably because he's too stupid to understand them. Rita and Runt break out of the "joint" (pound) and decide to travel toge

I can only describe this as a casting coup. Bernadette Peters is not only an incredible voice talent, but an amazing singer, perhaps one of the best of her time. The writers take full advantage of her range and give her songs in which her voice can really shine. I don't know who managed to sign her on, but she makes this one of the top episodes of all times.

Runt is loveable but dense and together Rita and Runt decide to travel together. Runt thinks Rita is a dog, and when she tries to tell him she's a cat, he goes looking for the cat ... not realizing it's her. Rita and Runt appear briefly in the Pilot episode but do not have speaking roles. This episode is their true "introduction."
