The Diary of Anne Frank is a 1980 made-for-TV movie adaptation of the classic first-hand account of one young Jewish girl's terrible experiences during World War II, as her family hides from the Nazis in a secret annex of a home in Amsterdam. This film stars Melissa Gilbert as Anne Frank, the thirteen-year-old who continues to study and hope for a career in journalism, even as the threat of discovery and death looms ever-present over her and her family. Maximillian Schell and Joan Plowright co-star as Anne's father and mother, who do their best to raise their child in the close-quarters of the secret annex as they try to maintain the illusion and prevent their arrest. The story is based on the play of the same name from Academy Award-winning writers Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, who also wrote the screenplay for this version.
