Chile is a country in South America that I know little about. It was full of surprises.

Our intrepid host started the show talking about Pinochet. I was shocked that Chileans do not hate us for that. Instead, they look with hope into a bright future.

Tony travels widely in this long, narrow country. He ends up in Patagonia, the end of the world, an unspoiled place he hopes is not ruined by progress.

The dishes featured in this show: Lobito, a sandwich made of pork, tomato, avocado and mayo. Teremodo, white wine with pineapple ice cream. Pernil, a pork leg simmered in brine

Alayado, cured pork and bits rolled in pork skin and boiled Braised brisket

Beef ribs braised in red wine and mashed vegetables

Fried sopapillas Peaches cooked with barley in a sweet sauce Calf hoof soup

    Deep fried intestines

    Chilean corn pie

    Razor clams and cheese

    Conger eels

    Fish stew

I never knew Chile could have so many culinary treasures. I think many viewers would be happy to try most of the dishes featured in this episode.
