  • Sun, sand, great crabs. What more could you ask for?

Tony traveled to Tahiti researching the life of Paul Gauguin, the great painter. Bourdain found out that the famous Post Impressionist painter was not a sympathetic character. He deserted his wife and five children. He was first in Tahiti, later returning to the Marquesas, where he is buried.

I could not help but envy Tony's trip. I dream of travels to tropical locales. I recall the gusto that Tony had eating the crabs that ate coconuts. The meal prepared by the grandmother with food from the land around her house was astounding. I was chagrined to hear Tony speak the language of his father, as he declared the meal magnifique.

Food is always better with sand between your toes, Tony always says. I heartily agree.
