      • Principal Character(s): Archie

      • This is a special episode in that various references are made to Archie Comics projects outside of this show (other episodes have done this, but not to this extent). There are at least three such instances. In the first, Archie stands outside Jughead's window and yells, "Jughead, come out right away, it's a matter of life or death!" to which Jughead replies, "Aw, relax, Archie -- relax." This is the dialogue that would begin each episode of the Archie Andrews radio series of the '40s and '50s. The second incident takes place as the young Betty and Archie meet. Archie comes out riding a bicycle while standing on it, where he meets Betty. This scene is almost exactly what happened in the first page of the first ever Archie comic, which appeared in 1941 in Pep #22. In the third incident, there is mention of one of Riverdale's earliest settlers, Bob Montana. Montana was actually one of the founding fathers of Archie Comics, creating the primary characters that we all know and love today in the Archie Universe.
