A teenager buys a potion from Sardo's magic shop hoping to make himself cooler, since he was in a accident that caused him to have to wear a brace on his leg. He soon finds himself changing, but also discovers that the potion has some very bad side effects.moreless
  • Fighting inner self? Very corny

    "Superb"
This episode was pretty much corny and boring. The cast didn't look attractive and yeah I got a lot to say. School dance and Sardo? Well Keith shouldn't bought that potion. Sardo is only going after money for he's poor. If only keith just saw what became of the rabbit and he wouldn't have taken it in the first place. Soon Mariah just takes the whole bottle to succeed like Keith after she found out. She's ugly and they end up together. Nerd love give me a break. Happy Birthday to Gary and it was a great story anyway you know.moreless

This is a tale for a coming of age audience. It's sort of a dark version of the Cinderella tale. This episode is well acted all the characters felt real and easy to emphise or feel sympathy for. From Keith's frustration and joy of becoming his ideal self. To he's female best friend's strong secret love over Keith, we see in her eyes of desperation how much she care about him and the great lengths she'd go to win him. Some good make up effects which made the slow mosnsterous transformation of the main character's skin and face look real and painfully grotestque, sort of like Cronenburg's The Fly. These helped create a slow building up suspense and anticipation wondering how worse Keith's and his best friend's condition will get and if there's a way out and a romantic tention hoping Keith will choose the right girl (his best friend obviously). This has deep Freudian themes on bodily changes, ideal self, and the great lengths one goes to obtain deep desires of love. Disturbing tale with a beutiful soul.moreless
  • A teenage boy, disgraced and self-loathing because of his leg brace, decides to take one of Sardo's potions to help him pursue a beautiful classmate. He finds that while the potion seems great at first, it reveals his inner darkness.moreless

An exquisite tale told by David for Gary's birthday. Though it is more on the teenage melodrama/sentimental side than normal...this rare element is actually key to its success. The characters are well acted and believable. It touches on a deeply emotional level while still incorporating elements of fantasy and the forces of darkness.

    • After School Special: Also, one can substitute drugs (no drug in particular, just the general concept of drugs) for the magic potion quite easily. For example, -Keith begins using it in his depression after being in a car crash -It makes him feel cool, but brings out the worst in him -He says he "didn't want to be (or feel like) himself when he explained why he used it -It also explains that random scene where he fails a test -When using it, he walks around in a black hoodie covering his entire body, and has to hide his hands, wrists, and face from people -He feels guilty when Mariah follows him into it -Because she's been sheltered from it, she took far too much/overdosed and almost died

    • Plot Similarity: Taking a potion to turn into someone different inside of youself. That's very similar to the plot of the novel, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
