Waiting for Kristen, The Midnight Society sets up the fire. They are all spooked when a ghostly figure arrives! It is Kristen, dressed up in spooky duds to create effect for her story.
DeDe meets Greg and Chuck in a cemetery; they tell her they're looking for the ghost of the prom queen. The prom queen died long ago, waiting for a ride to the dance from her boyfriend, who died on the way to pick her up! DeDe's curiosity is peaked, so she agrees to help the guys with the ghost hunt.
They sift through newspaper articles at their local library, and find one in 1956 that describes the tragic prom tale. To contact the ghost of the girl's boyfriend, the trio decide to do a séance so that they can urge him to pick up his girlfriend, and put the girl's ghost to rest.
During the séance at the lake, the lake gurgles and bubbles threateningly, spooking Greg and making Chuck guffaw at Greg's terror. Once they've contacted Ricky, the boyfriend, the trio goes to the cemetery to wait for his ghost.
At the cemetery, a hooded, ghostly figure crosses over the graves, but it turns out to be Chuck's cousin and the two are playing a mean-spirited joke. However, the joke is on them when the ghost of Ricky in his car drives over the graves toward them. Just then, the boys notice that DeDe begins to hum and twirl around…
She is suddenly wearing a lovely, formal dress, and thanks the guys for rescuing her. She says that she is the ghost of the prom queen; her real name is Judy, and that now she and Ricky can finally go to the prom.
The Midnight Society, rendered speechless, puts out the fire and goes home.
