    Did we ever meet her?

My mom thinks we did in on episode, but she does not remember which one.

I can't ever remember seeing her, as I live in England I watch it every weekday morning, so I've pretty much watched every episode at least three times over the last 3-4 months.

I'm not familiar with that character. Was this during the beginning of the series? I haven't seen many of those episodes. I watch on BBC & they show mostly the later years. Although years ago I watched the show on PBS.

She was Mrs. Slocomb's best friend on teh show.  She would always tell Miss Brahms what they did on their various outings.

As far as I know, she never appeared.  She was talked about extensively, but never came on screen.  It was a sort of technique that's been used to varying degrees--having a character who's talked of, but never seen, though I can't recall any other show that carried it that far.  On Cheers Norm's wife, Vera, was like that.  She DID appear once, but her face was concealed by a thrown pie.  I THINK that possibly Fish's wife on Barney Miller didn't appear till he was spun off, but I might be wrong.  I know there was an episode where the guys ate hash brownies and all got high, and Fish became jealous when an old friend made leering references to dancing with Fish's wife.  But I don't THINK she appeared.  I think he just called her and got macho-caveman over the phone, then went home, with the hint being that he was about to get virile.  I'd have loved to have seen Mrs. Axelby.  She sounded like a hoot.

I would have loved to see how she looked more than anything.

As for Barney Miller, she was shown, but slowly got edged out the show.

No, she was never seen, much like Mrs Mainwaring in Dad's Army or Carlton the Doorman in Rhoda.  It's a standard comedy practice.

Barbara Barrie played the ife on Barney Miller and she was there from 1975-1976.  I was watching a TVLand thing about why they dropped of characters and she said she left because there was no point to her being on the show. It was called TVLand Confidential, Breakout and Disappearing Stars.

    Nope. Never.

In an early episode, Mrs. Slocombe refers to her friend - who has a different name...

    Anyone know what it was...?

And for extra points - what episode it was in...?
