The episode opens with Sarah Elizabeth Burton grabbing her mother's finger. Joan Burton excitedly tells Roland that the baby just grabbed her finger. Roland wants to know if she actually grabbed it or if it was just reflex. Joan says, I think it was grabbing. Opposable thumbs. The works! Roland says, Thats really advanced. We need to get out more. Joan throws out, sleep more! It will all be possible as soon as Roland’s mother arrives. Roland has never seen Joan so excited about a visit from his mother. Joan tells him shes never had a reason to be so excited about a visit from her! Roland says, And youd think being a shrink, a physician could heal himself. Joan replies, Honey, its never that easy. Just relax and enjoy the visit.†Roland says he'll definitely write himself that prescription. Joan excitedly says, She definitely grabbed!
At the Holden residence, Michael comes into the kitchen and attempts to pick up a blueberry muffin. Claudia Joy tells him they are hot. She says technically, they are not for him. He asks, Who are they technically for? Claudia Joy says, Lieutenant Colonel Connor's wife, Jennifer, who arrives on post today. I was going to pay her a visit tomorrow. Give her a day to settle in. Michael wants to know if he should give up trying to ever get ahead of her. She tells him, Probably! She tells Michael the only thing she knows about her is her name and when she arrives. Jennifer Connor is a lawyer, which should give the two women plenty to talk about. Michael thinks that she has to be smart given her profession and should fall right into Claudia Joy's crowd. Claudia Joy lets Michael know that her crowd will be going to Denise Sherwoods house this evening. Denise has just returned from her mini-vacation. Michael asks how Denise is doing. Its been hard for Denise with both Frank and Jeremy deployed. Michael hopes Denise and Frank can get their issues worked out. He reveals that Frank is pretty devastated. Claudia Joy says Denise is, too. She didn't exactly plan on separating. Michael says, But it's what she wanted, right? Claudia Joy thinks Denise is mostly confused. The death hit her pretty hard. Michael asks, death? Claudia Joy tells him, That doctor over at the hospital Getty. Michael has no clue what Claudia Joy is talking about. He asks if Denise had something going on with the doctor. Realizing she had just made a BIG goof and that there was no turning back, she told Michael that the two had kissed. That was all. It was not an affair. Angrily, Michael says, He's over there risking his life and you know how I feel about this, Claudia Joy! She does. Its their problem and they are working on it. Michael considers it a betrayal. He asks her if shed think the same thing if it were him. Claudia Joy wants to know why he's going there it isn't about them. Its Frank and Denise. Claudia Joy is sorry she said anything. Michael is too, because now it changes his opinion of her. Claudia Joy tells him to have some compassion. Denise is her friend. He tells her Frank is his. Michael claims he's going to be late and then leaves.
Over at the Moran home, Pamela is straightening up. Chase comes through the front door and asks, Where's my Welcoming Committee? Pamela drops what shes doing, runs and jumps into his arms. She beings to cry and says, I'm so glad you're home! Chase asks if there's something else. Pamela tells him there is and wonders if she should tell him now. He leans back, looks at her and says, Yes. What? Pamela goes over and sits on the coffee table. She tells him about a fan of her radio show that started stalking her. Chase is looking at her in shock. She says he followed her, left stuff on their doorstep and took pictures. Pamela tells Chase that the stalker broke into the house. This shocks him even more. He asks if she was there. She confirms she was. He asks if the guy hurt her. He didn't. Chase asks about the kids and if they were there. They were, but were not hurt. Pamela's revelations shake Chase to his core. She tells him the guy is in jail. She was just scared and shes exhausted. Now that Chase is home, she breaks down. He just holds and comforts her.
Emmalyn and Claudia Joy are sitting out on the patio. Claudia Joy makes a comment that world history cannot be making her smile like that. Emmalyn says she is writing a letter to Logan. Claudia Joy asks if she knows Logan. He is Emmalyn's Army Pen Pal. Claudia Joy and Michael had encouraged Emmalyn to do it. Logan is in Iraq and is in communications. He does a lot of satellite stuff. The only injury he has received is when he fell off a ladder. But it was a really tall ladder! Emmalyn tells her. Claudia Joy thinks he sounds funny. A woman walks up and says, Claudia Joy? Claudia Joy asks if she can help her. The woman introduces herself as Jennifer Connor, Evan Connor's wife. She asks if its a good time for her to stop over. Claudia Joy assures her it is. Jennifer tells Claudia Joy shes sure it was on her list to stop by tomorrow, but she got in last night, unpacked and is already bored. Claudia Joy says they can't have that. She introduces Emmalyn. Jennifer says, Wow! Aren't you gorgeous! Emmalyn, a little embarrassed, thanks her. Jennifer tells Claudia Joy she didn't mean to interrupt a mother-daughter moment. She didn't. Claudia Joy says she was probably starting to bug Emmalyn, anyway.
Inside the house, the women are in the kitchen. Claudia Joy places a plate of muffins on the counter and asks Jennifer how she unpacked so fast. Jennifer replies, I've got it down to a science. Don't tell anyone, but I hire a lot of extra hands! I know a good Army wife should do it herself, but I've been delegating too long to stop now. We learn Jennifer is into real estate litigation. Evan Connor told Jennifer that Claudia Joy had gone to law school. Claudia Joy says she did years ago back during the witch trials. Jennifer says shes sure its not that different. Jennifer asks Claudia Joy if she was interested in a particular field. Claudia Joy tells her family law, but decided to have one instead. Jennifer states she isn't sure if she has the patience for children. Claudia Joy hands Jennifer a basket with muffins in it. She asks if Jennifer would be interested in joining the FRG. She would. She reveals she was the FRG Leader at Fort Irwin. Claudia Joy tells her there is a meeting tomorrow at noon. Jennifer says she will be there, picks up the basket, and thanks Claudia Joy. As she gets up to leave, she says, Even if your secret plan is to get me fat. Claudia Joy tells her she doesn't have any secret plans. Jennifer replies, How refreshing, and then leaves.
Roxy LeBlanc is straightening up the house. Her sons, TJ and Finn, are in their bedroom, supposedly doing their homework. However, from the sound of things, there is more playing than working going on! She tells them they had better get cracking on their homework or they will go to bed early and have to explain to their teachers why their homework isn't complete. As she walks into the living room, she steps on a toy. At the same time, Trevor walks through the front door. He asks if she’s all right. She tells him its a basic batmobile injury and she'll be fine. Roxy asks Trevor how his ADAPC meeting went. He tells her it was ok. It was his first meeting, so he didn't do any talking. He says it helped to listen. His counselor recommended he attend a meeting every day for the next couple of weeks. He knows its going to put a lot onto Roxy especially since he works full-time, also. Roxy tells him its important and they will make it work. She asks him how he's doing. Trevor replies hes a little shaky and tense, but nothing he can't handle. Hes been told that it should pass quickly. Its been recommended that Roxy receive counseling, as well. Roxy wants to know why and what did she do. Trevor tells her its because shes going through stuff, too. She tells Trevor not to worry about her. She'll be fine. He can help her by getting the boys to do their homework. Roxy is going over to Denise's. Right before she leaves, she sneezes. Trevor asks her if shes getting sick. She doesn't have time to get sick. She claims shes told her body that and its not going to talk back. Trevor mutters, Well, I wouldn't talk back. The boys begin making noise again and Roxy gives Trevor a subtle hint to go deal with them.
Over at Denise Sherwood's, Roxy is still sneezing. Denise is talking about her stay at the beach house. She says she read, took long walks and saw some wildlife that she never wants to see again. She didn't make any big decisions, but she wasn't expecting to. Claudia Joy says it will take longer than a week to figure out her whole life. Denise asks about Trevor. Roxy tells them hes in ADAPC. Everyone thinks its great. Roxy looks at Pamela and says she noticed Pamela never left her house this morning. Pamela tells the ladies Chase just got home this morning. They ask why shes with them instead of with him. Hes debriefing, but when hes done, she'll be with him. Claudia Joy tells them she met Jennifer Connor. The ladies ask if they like her. Claudia Joy says its too soon to tell. Pamela asks Denise if shes heard from Frank or Jeremy. Jeremy is doing ok. Denise and Frank are just taking it one step at a time. Denise says it was hard to come back because everything reminds her of something. Shes thinking of redecorating. Claudia Joy asks if Frank would be ok with that. Denise replies, Hes always left the house stuff up to me. But, he would pay attention to how much I spent. Claudia Joy tells her she'll just have to use her own money. Denise reveals she doesn't have an account. They have always blended their money. Surprised, Pamela asks, You've NEVER had your own account? Denise says, I'm not Amish. I just got married young. Roxy begins to make a to-do list for becoming the new, liberated Denise. Denise isn't liberated. Pamela says, No. Just modernized.
1. New bank account.
2. Redecorate.
3. Pole dancing.
At the Burton residence, baby Sarah Elizabeth is crying and Joan is trying to comfort her. Roland comes through the door asking where his girls are. Joan says, Working it out in here. Vivian, welcome back. How was your flight? Vivian says it was a long flight because she sat next to a chatterbox who wanted to tell her whole life story. Joan hopes it was interesting, at least. It was not. Mama Burton asks to see the baby. Roland tells her Joan is working it out. Joan says, Joan is ready to admit defeat! Mama Burton chastises Roland for not telling her Sarah Elizabeth has all the genes from the Burton side of the family. She doesn't see a speck of Joan in her! Joan says, I know. If I hadn't delivered her myself, I'd swear somebody mailed her to me! Mama Burton says, The Burtons are a delightful bunch, but they are loud! She gets the baby to quiet down. Joan says, Whatever works! Roland, feeling sort of pushed out of the way, quietly says he'll take his mother's things upstairs.
Denise is at Claudia Joys' helping get folders put together for the FRG meeting. Claudia Joy describes Jennifer Connor as vivacious, friendly and a little over-powering. She roped Jennifer into FRG right away. Denise is looking forward to meeting her. Claudia Joy suggests they take Jennifer to lunch one day next week. Denise tells her they should get going because the head of FRG shouldn't be the last to arrive. Michael arrives home. He thought he'd come home for lunch because hes been craving one of Claudia Joys BLTs. His pace slows as he walks into the kitchen and sees Denise. Denise says hi. Michael returns her greeting and asks how Frank is doing. Frank is fine. Clearly uncomfortable, Michael says he'll get something later on and leaves the room. Denise is clearly puzzled by Michael's actions and tone. She and Claudia Joy leave for the meeting.
Pamela arrives at the LeBlanc home to pick Roxy up for the FRG meeting. She asks Roxy if shes ready. Roxy totally forgot about it. Shes been so busy with inventory stuff for the restaurant, plus she has to pick the boys up from school. Pamela thought Trevor usually does that. He does, but hes had to rearrange his schedule to accommodate the ADAPC meetings. Roxy wishes she could go because she really wants to meet Lieutenant Colonel Connor's wife. She asks Pamela for a detailed briefing after the meeting. Then, she sneezes. Pamela says, Gross! Are you getting sick? Roxy claims she isn't. Pamela asks, Should I be worried about you? Roxy assures Pamela that she'll be fine.
At the ADAPC meeting, Private First Class Jenkins is talking about being a soldier and how he should be able to handle anything. The drugs helped at first, but then began to take over to the point where he didn't know where they stopped and he began. The counselor says, War related injuries affect us all in different ways. And part of the problem is that your partners, your family cannot always understand what you've been through. She asks Trevor if he'd like to share. He says, I think more than anything, I feel, um I feel ashamed. Ashamed for getting wounded. Ashamed for not being with my unit. Ashamed for getting hooked on pills. The counselor says, Shame is a powerful emotion. And one we have to learn to overcome. Trevor says its hard. The counselor says its all hard, but that's why they're here to help make it easy on each other.
Roland is trying to sooth and comfort Sarah Elizabeth. Mama Burton comes into the room. She asks what's wrong with the baby. Roland tells her shes a little fussy. Mama Burton says she has gas. Roland says hes burped and changed her and shes probably just tired. Mama Burton says, If she has gas, she needs to be burped. Becoming a tad bit testy, Roland says he did burp her. Mama Burton takes the baby from Roland. Roland is clearly frustrated by his mothers actions. She gets the baby to burp. Roland tells her he would have figured it out eventually. Mama Burton tells Roland that its tradition for the father to earn a living and the mother raise the children. Roland points out she worked. She had to after his father died. Roland says he does earn a living. There is more than one way to support people. She asks, What about your fancy education? You're a doctor teaching high school. What happened to your ambition? Roland says his ambition is to help raise his child. He and Joan have a plan. They've given a lot of thought on how to do it. He says shes not being helpful if all she can do is criticize.
At the FRG meeting, everyone has been briefed on the state of the treasury. There is room for improvement on the fund raising front. Claudia Joy opens the floor for suggestions. Jennifer Connor raises her hand. Claudia Joy introduces her. Jennifer says they will all get to know her because she does not have shrinking violet in her DNA. She tells the group that she would like to introduce an idea that worked very well when she was FRG Leader at Fort Irwin. They did a calendar of hot Army wives. It wasn't a pin-up, but more like glamour shots. The guys loved it and they made lots of money. She looks around and says that she can see a few viable candidates. Claudia Joy says its not a bad idea, but maybe make it a little more relevant. Jennifer asks her what she means. Claudia Joy thinks the deployed soldiers would appreciate a visual reminder of their lives on post maybe a Slice of Life type of thing - group shots, candids of men and women in various locations around the post. Snapshots of how life goes on while they are away. Sarcastically, Jennifer says, Wow. That's sexy. This provokes a few snickers from the wives. Claudia Joy admits its not going to steam up anyones windows, but it feels more like what FRG is about. Jennifer, not overly happy about Claudia Joys idea, asks for a vote. Glamour Calendar gets four raised hands. Slice of Life Calendar receives 19 raised hands. Tradition wins. Jennifer congratulates Claudia Joy. Claudia Joy thanks her for the idea. It is obvious Jennifer is not pleased with the outcome.
At the bank, Denise is filling out paperwork to open her own account. Roland comes over to the same counter and begins to fill out paperwork, as well. Denise asks how the new father is. He tells her fine, but tired. Denise assures him it will get easier. According to Roland, the women are in control at the Burton residence and hes out running errands. Denise asks how the visit with his mother is going. Roland says that the three ladies have completely bonded. Denise asks if its a good thing. Roland reveals that there is a lot of unresolved history with his mother. Denise asks if its the garden variety or something interesting. Its pretty classic stuff. Mama Burton wanted him to go to college and now doesn't feel hes doing enough with his fancy education. Mothers raise kids. Fathers work. The way Roland and Joan are doing things is completely backwards. Everything modern is wrong. Roland presents Denise with Exhibit A a check for $20 made out to Sarah Elizabeth. Mama Burton wants Roland to open a college fund with it. She wouldn't let him do it online because she doesn't trust that process. Hes been directed to hand the check to the teller and then bring back proof that he was there. Denise isn't that many steps ahead of her. She is there to open a checking account in her own name. Roland tells her its a milestone. Denise says she got married young. Roland jokingly asks if she needs help filling out the forms. Denise says, Ah, thanks. I think I've got all the big words figured out! Roland congratulates her and then offers to take her out for an ice cream sundae after they are finished. Denise replies, You know, I'll take you out. And I'll pay with a check! Roland replies, Aren't you sweet? You'll need your drivers license for that. Ok. Jokes stop now!
Chase is playing ball with Lucas and Katie. Pamela is hanging clothes on the line. She asks him if she can get his opinion on something. She tells him about the calendar shoot the FRG is having and they would like her to participate. Chase doesn't think its a very good idea after what has happened recently. He'd like for her to lay low for a bit. Pamela isn't happy. Shes sad that she can't be a part of things. Chase assures her that she is a part of things but doesn't have to be on a poster.
Roland has returned home. Joan, Mama Burton and Sarah Elizabeth are outside. Mama Burton is telling a story about Roland when he was a child. He wouldn't get off the bus with all these people staring at us. So, I was holding his hand, dragging him a little, when he shouts as loud as can be, Go ahead and break my arm like you did before! Joan and Mama Burton laugh. Joan asks where he had heard that. Mama Burton doesn't know maybe TV or something. Roland tells Joan he thinks she made the story up because he has no recollection of it. He says sometimes she tells it and its his brother. Mama Burton says, It wasn't Calvin. It was you the troublemaker. Calvin was too scared to talk back. No, this is the one that had the fire in him. She asks Roland if he opened the account. He did and presents her with the information. Joan thanks her. Mama Burton says Sarah Elizabeth deserves to have the same kind of education Roland had. Maybe shel'l go to medical school and actually practice medicine. Rolands face shows he is hurt by her words. He goes to pick up the baby, but his mother stops him. She says they just got her to quiet down. Joan confirms the baby was crying a lot. Sullenly, Roland walks off saying hes going to find some manly work to do.
Denise and Claudia Joy are shopping. Denise is describing what she would like to do with the re-decorating. She asks Claudia Joy if shes being selfish with Frank is where he is and Denise wanting to redecorate. Claudia Joy asks if shes supposed to just pace and be miserable. Frank is where he wants to be even with the danger. Denise asks what the deal was when she and Michael were in the kitchen. Claudia Joy claims Michael was just preoccupied. Denise knows it was more than that. She felt like a big scarlet A was being burned into her forehead. Claudia Joy says she accidentally told Michael. Denise doesn't understand how she could accidentally tell him. Claudia Joy says, He and Frank talk. He was acting like he knew and it just came out. And I couldn't get it back. Claudia Joy apologizes. She is Denise's friend and understands. She asks her, But Denise, did you really expect there not to be any fallout over this? Denise doesn't know what she expected. Claudia Joy says Michael is entitled to his own opinion. There isn't anything she can do to change his mind. As a fact, Claudia Joy is worried where this is headed. Denise says she is, too. Claudia Joy tells her that wherever it goes, she will be there with Denise.
Pamela is at Betty's Bar and Grill. Shes telling Roxy she hates to disappoint Claudia Joy, but Chase doesn't feel she should participate. Roxy understands. She asks if it makes sense for her to go into hiding. The odds of it happening again are pretty slim. Pamela doesn't feel shes hiding shes laying low. Roxy hates to see him win. Jennifer Connor comes in. She spots Pamela and comes over to her. Pamela asks her how things are going. Jennifer says great and everything is settling down. Pamela introduces Roxy and Jennifer. Roxy is in the FRG too, but missed this mornings meeting. Roxy tells her that her husband, Trevor, temporarily works for Lieutenant Colonel Connor. Jennifer, in a dismissive tone and manner says she knows and shes heard all about him. Jennifer asks if the two of them are picking out their wardrobes for the photo shoot. Pamela is going to leave that to them. Coyly, Jennifer says, The pinup idea was better, wasn't it? Pamela says, Excuse me? Jennifer replies, Claudia Joy is smart and put together, but shes somewhat on the conservative side. Kinda took the air out of the whole thing. Pamela points out that everyone voted. In a snide tone, Jennifer says, Like anybodys gonna say no to her. Roxy tells Jennifer that Claudia Joy is one of their best friends. Jennifer tells them she didn't mean to offend. She really likes Claudia Joy. Pamela says her reasons for not participating are completely different. Unconvinced, Jennifer says, Sure they are. Look, I get it. I'm a lawyer. I understand politics. Its not politics. Jennifer replies, Never explain. Never complain. That's what I always say. She tells Roxy, I'll have a Caesar Salad, Doll, then heads off to the bathroom. Roxy watches her walk away. Pamela says, I so have to do that calendar now! Roxy turns to look at her and says, Yeah, ya do, Doll.
Joan and Roland have just gotten into bed. Joan states its the first time they've gone to bed together in over a week. Joan realizes something is bothering Roland. She tells him to talk to her. Roland feels Joan is on his mothers side. Joan assures him there aren't any sides. Roland isn't proud of how he feels. Joan says, She was a single mother, just barely getting by. You're a doctor. I'm an officer in the Army. Don't you think she might be a little intimidated? Maybe she just wants to prove herself. Roland knows as a shrink that its a lot of defense and projection. But, as a son, it just feels like disapproval - maybe a little payback. He was embarrassed that she worked in the school cafeteria. He didn't want to go in there with his friends. He denied knowing her more than once. Joan reminds him he was just a kid. Roland asks why he thought it would change all that history when he became a father. Joan tells him to give it some time maybe she wants to prove shes still important. She says, Let her teach you something. Wouldn't hurt you to do that, would it? Roland replies, I guess we'll find out.
Claudia Joy is looking at some layouts for the photo shoot. Pamela walks up to her and asks where she wants her. Claudia Joy tells her that she thought she wasn't coming. Pamela claims it was a change of heart. Claudia Joy is glad shes there. Jennifer Connor spots Pamela and raises her eyebrow. Pamela turns and keeps walking. There are flashes of the various shots for the calendar. The final shots shown are of many people walking dogs in the park.
Denise drops Claudia Joy off at home. Denise asks her if there is anything else she can help with. Claudia Joy says she is going to order Chinese and collapse. Michael pulls up just as Denise is about to get into her car. Denise asks Michael if he thinks they should talk. Michael doesn't know what to say. Denise asks if he could consider that the situation isn't so simple. She tells him its not just some Army wife being shallow and restless. Michael tells her that he believes it. Hes sure whatever it is it runs deep. Hes struggling with his own reaction. He says, But it all comes back to this: When men put their lives on the line, what goes on at home needs to be very simple. Fidelity, loyalty, security its what you agreed to give him so that he could stay focused and do his job. Denise wants to know about what Frank agreed to give her. Michael tells her its between her and Frank. Denise replies, You know what, Michael? Its all between me and Frank. Then, she gets in her car.
In the bar at Betty's, a young man is obviously drunk. He knocks over a beer bottle. Roxy tells him and his friends to ease up because its a family place. Roxy tells Roland that shes given the guy three beers in one hour. Roland knows. Roxy sneezes. Roland asks her if her cold is catching up with her. She denies that its a cold and claims its allergies. Roland tells her she looks like death warmed over. Roxy tells him she is shorthanded and Trevor has an ADAPC meeting in the morning, which means she has the early shift with the boys. So, she cannot have a cold. Roland teases her, Your body didn't get that memo. At the other end of the bar, the intoxicated guy knocks another beer bottle over. She reminds them she has warned them to keep it down. The man proceeds to ask for another beer. Roxy tells him no and if he keeps up, shes going to take his keys. This upset him. She is responsible for anyone driving away from there. His friend jumps in, telling Roxy its ok. She looks at him and says, Did I ask you? then demands the drunken man to give her his keys. He tells her to get lost. The friend tells her they are just having a good time. Roxy snaps. Good time? I'm up to my neck in other peoples good times. Getting drunk and losing control that's not good times! And you know what the problem is? Its never your fault! What about the people who have to pick up the tab for that, huh? What about their good times? You don't even care about the people who you leave in your path. The friend tells her hes driving and that he isn't drunk. Roxy hollers, âGET OUT! Roland watches from the other end of the bar. He knows there is more to this than some drunken fool. Roxy looks around, sees all the people looking at her. She says, What are ya all looking at? then storms off.
The next day, Roland goes to see Roxy. Shes sitting on her front steps. He asks her how shes feeling. Roxy finally admits she has a cold. Roland begins to talk about what happened at the bar. Roxy admits she was over the top. Roland says, People who grow up with addictions develop their own addictions. Its called enabling. Roxy tells him she hoped that the first five addicts she hooked up with before Trevor were coincidences. Trevor is different she was sure she had broken the cycle. Roland agrees Trevor is different. His addiction is situational. The way she is handling it is not different. Glossing over problems, taking on more than she can do, not admitting defeat that's the pattern. Roland takes a brochure for Al-Anon out of his pocket and sits on the steps next to her. He asks if shes heard of it. She has. She was hoping she wouldn't need it. Roxy says, You know, when I was young, I used to wonder all the time when help was coming. And then, one day I realized, oh its not. I'm on my own. Just stopped thinking about help, let alone asking for it. Roland tells her things are different now. She agrees with him.
Denise, Claudia Joy and Pamela are at the photographers studio looking at the proofs. Claudia Joy is very pleased with how they turned out. Pamela is looking at a picture of herself. She says, Some how, I thought I'd be skinnier and younger. Claudia Joy and Denise laugh. The photographer tells them they're all beautiful and the calendar is going to be great. Claudia Joy teases him, Aw, what are you supposed to say? We're paying you! This causes the photographer to laugh. Pamela finds some pictures that were mixed in with their calendar shots and asks what they are. The photographer tells them they are Mrs. Connors shots. He apologizes. He doesn't know how they got mixed in and that they were supposed to be in a separate pile. Claudia Joy asks him what hes talking about. She thought they were all doing the same calendar. The photographer assumed they knew. Mrs. Conner commissioned the whole thing. Shes doing a glamour project. The three women are shocked competing calendars! Its a separate project and Mrs. Connor is paying for it herself. Pamela asks Claudia Joy, Ok. Now can we NOT like her?
Chase is outside repairing a window as Pamela walks up. She asks him what happened. It was supposed to be a homerun in the other direction. Chase tells her the kids won't make it to the Olympic Softball team. Pamela says they'll just have to be astronauts. She asks Chase if she can talk to him for a second. She tells him she participated in the calendar photo shoot. Chase asks why. Pamela can't walk around scared all the time. Chase does not like them taking risks with their family. Pamela tells him he was drawn to her for a reason because she can handle herself. He liked that part of her. Chase agrees. While Chase is off protecting our freedoms, Pamela is here afraid to be a part of her own community. Chase tells her she makes a good point and calls her Officer Moran.
Mama Burton is rocking Sarah Elizabeth. Roland watches from the doorway. He tells her she has the magic touch. Mama Burton says its nothing. She just tells the baby what's going on. Roland asks if it makes a difference. It does. Mama Burton says, Most people think babies are stupid. Mainly when they get here, they're just confused. Imagine how it feels going from moment to the next not knowing what's going on. She tells Sarah Elizabeth that shes going to sleep and when she wakes up, they'll all be here. Roland asks if he can try. Mama Burton hands him the baby. Joan watches from the doorway. Mama Burton leaves the room. Joan asks, Do you wonder where you get it from? Roland replies, Get what? Joan says, Your wisdom, your patience, your strength - everything that makes you a great father.
Denise has just pulled up at the Holy City Tattoo parlor. Claudia Joy gets out of her car and asks if its the right address. It is. Denise did some research and found out its the best place in town. Claudia Joy asks her why. Denise wanted to do something scary and permanent a ritual, a right of passage. Claudia Joy wonders if she had something in mind. Denise pulls out a piece of paper with symbols on it. She says its San Scrip for beautiful mistake. Its the idea that nothing is really a mistake. Every choice is a lesson. It shapes who we are and who we become. Its something that Denise doesn't ever want to forget. Claudia Joy doesn't want her to, either. The women go inside.
Trevor is at his ADAPC meeting. He shares with the group that he only knew his wife for two weeks before he married her. He knows some people may consider that irresponsible. But, he knew she was the one.
Roxy is at an Al-Anon meeting. She shares that she used to make one impulsive choice after another because that's what she saw all the people around her doing. Choosing Trevor was the right thing. It lead her to sanity and she cannot forget that. She can't run away at the first sign of trouble. She knows she can't deny what's all around her. She owes it to Trevor.
Trevor says, Its like there's something bigger. Its like there's a small voice that we can barely hear trying to tell us what to do.
Roxy says,The truth is in the middle in the quiet.
Trevor continues, We just have to listen.
Roxy tells her group she is learning to be still.
Both Trevor and Roxy say, Thanks for letting me share.
As the episode ends, we see Denise getting her tattoo with Claudia Joy looking on, Sarah Elizabeth asleep in Roland's arms and Pamela resting her head on Chase's lap. The final image is a close up of Sarah Elizabeth sleeping.
