  • A very emotional episode of Army Wives

    9.6
    "Superb"
This episode is a very emotional episode which picks up exactly where the season one finale ended. We slowly learn, that 3 people are critical injured and that 15 are injured and a couple have died. We have to wait for most of the episode to learn who has did (who know that at least one member of the main cast has been killed). Roxy is waiting for news on Trevor. We see Claudia Joy and her daughter Amanda, although injured heading to college. We see that Betty the owner of the Hump Bar is critically ill and that it doesn't look to good for her. As the episode drew on I believed that Betty would be the cast's casualty of the bombing. After all we had seen Claudia Joy and both of her daughters, Denise, Roxy, Pamela, Ronald, Joan and a few other cast members.

Joan takes Ronald home and he asks her where they are in their relationship and she tells him that she wants him. He asks her about the pregnancy and she tells him that she needs a few days and then they can talk about it. Joan tells Roxy that Trevor is fine. When she goes home and puts on her dressing gown she finds a DVD from Trevor telling her that everything will be ok and that he loves her. When Denise talks to the Army Detectives, we learn that Claudia Joy and Amanda were still inside of the building when it exploded, as they won't leave without each other. We then see Claudia Joy setting Amanda's room for her at college. We then flash back to the hospital and see that Amanda is still in the hospital and her heart has stopped beating and that they are trying to revive her. We then see Amanda and Claudia Joy saying goodbye to each other, at a train station. We then see Amanda's father in tears as they fight to bring her back to life, but they are unable to do so. We then see Claudia Joy waking up in hospital and Michael telling her that Amanda has died. But Claudia Joy already knows she's gone. They both brake down in tears.

This is a really excellent show and glad to see it back. It leads up to the wives being involved in the action, rather than their spouses and their boyfriends. Because the blowing up of the radio station really hit them hard. Not just physically but mentally and emotionally. It takes place four days earlier on what led up to the blowing up. Sadly, one of them dies. And that is Amanda. They try to remember her in happier times. But it is too hard on them to do so. RIP Amanda as you will be missed. Really good to see the show back!

This is one of the best shows out there!I just hope they do not take it off of the air like they do most of the good shows out there. This show goes into detail of what army wives really do when their husbands or wives are gone to fight for their country. This is just a heartwarming tv show they have ever mad and I will be sad if they do take it off the air. People who do not really like this show does not have a heart if you ask me becuase they go though a lot of this country.

I knew Merlyn would be dead, but I thought that would be it. Amanda's death was a shocker. This episode was a fantastic way to start the series. Still sad about Amanda, but I loved that line she said before she left. "Show me the mother and I'll show you the child." Pamela's commentary during the show was also excellent. I love this episode, the second, and can't wait to see the third one. If you're just starting to watch Army Wives, you need to catch up with season 1. This show is fantastic, and helps you understand the Army. Wonder what season 3 will be like...
  • A wonderful 'put-together' episode!

Throughout the whole episode, I had sadness written all over my face. I absolutely love the way the episode was written with Amanda & her mother... it was what her mom always wanted... for her daughter to go to Harvard and do what she couldn't finish. That was the beautiful part. The one that kinda drove me nuts was, Roxy. I mean, I love Roxy... but the attitude she gave off towards the Army was pretty unacceptable... I mean, the Army did do right for her... she doesn't have any room at all to blame the Army for anything. Other than that... I loved this episode and I'm so happy Army Wives is back on! Wooohooo!
  • Death, Destruction, Mystery and Intrigue

I know other's have found fault with this episode. I was a little wonkified by the whole thing, until the end. I thought that the season two premier was brilliant. The writers did a fantastic job of keeping us in the dark with the mysterious fourth death. I was stunned to find out it was Amanda, even though I unconsciously thought it might be. I did really enjoy the coma/afterlife/goodbye situation with Amanda and her mother though. I have a feeling the entire episode is setting us up for some terrific future drama. We see Jeremy come home to console his mother. (Dunno how he got leave from boot camp though, I'm pretty sure that's a no no) We have CJ and Michael Holden's lives falling apart. Poor Betty in a coma and in peril. The Hump Bar destroyed. Roland and Joan's lives are also in turmoil. In addition, our favorite little spitfire, Roxy, is getting a little cranky with her new hubby's first time in the field since they married. Finally, we have the ever present and level headed Pamela. Her hubby was supposed to be home for a while, and off he goes into the wild blue yonder. All of this, again I say, will be leading up to some pretty dramatic future moments for our Army Wives. I for one ... absolutely cannot wait.
  • Happy to have them back!

I have to say that when I started to watch the season premiere, I was very excited.

Then, gradually, it was like I was getting bored. I don't know why. I had been waited for so long that all I wanted was the episode to go straight to the point and tell us who died.

Moreover I was kind of disappointed to see that Amanda had survived. It sounded so unrealistic. She was standing right behind the bomb man after all.

It's only in the last 5 minutes that I completely enjoyed the episode and felt overwhelmed. Claudia Joy was just dreaming about taking her daughter to college. While it was their goodbye to one another. I really didn't see that one coming.

I must say that it was a fabulous idea from the writers to let us think about a "miracle" while it was only sadness to come.

The storyline between Claudia Joy and Amanda is wonderful. I can't help reminding one of the final lines: "Show me the mother and I'll show you the child". Brian McNamara is also very great at expressing his sorrow. Finally, all the rest would be almost details. Sure, we care about Betty, we worry with Roxy, we sympathize with Denise - even though I find Catherine Bell quite annonying -and we support Roland.

Still, the best part is the ultimate separation between a mother and her daughter. I will have to replay the episode to see if there are any signs that could have let me know about the outcome - you know like in "The sixth sense". I know that I kept asking to myself: why is Amanda's sister staying at Denise's house, why does her father come to check on her... Jeremy seemed to be ok so I didn't really imagine the worst.

I have also been very moved by Pamela's long voiceover. The words sounded so true, so human, so poetic... Season 2 has a great beginning. Let's see what is coming next.

PS: Did Kim Delaney get her lips done? They looked so different... and not very nice...

ok so one word would descride this unbelievable show. AWESOME! ok so I have to admit I was in tears watching the season premier. you feel so much for these people involved with the show. You wish you could be there to hold there hand and feel there pain with them. Finally a show has really captured what it feels like and the reality of being an army wife. I have been wating for this show to come back and it was definitly worth the wait. I hope life time can continue to follow this path of excellent writting.

This is one of those shows that will give me something to watch this Summer.

Roxy's difficulties dealing with Trevor deployment is very understandable. Especially after the bombing. It did irriate me that Joan (excuse me, LTC Burton) played the rank card with a friend. I guess this was done because she was giving her some information as an Army official and not just a personal friend.

The Claudia Joy - Amanda scenes were fantastic!. I did not catch what was going on until she had to said goodbye. All I can say is Wow!

Pamela is one of my favorite characters. Her ability to remain calm and steady is truly one of greatest strengths. Nicely done, keep up the good work.

This has been one of the most anticipated season premieres and it did NOT disappoint!! We begin four days after the bombing. Pamela goes on air and reveals that she has just learned that she lost someone near to her. While Pamela is talking, it shows Joan getting ready for a press conference. We learn that there were four casualties, 15 injured and three were critically injured. We do not get to learn the names of those that have been killed or injured as they were still in the process of notifying next of kin. Joan also informs the press that the terrorist threat is no more. She says that the munitions were stolen by Sergeant George Polarski and that they had recovered some from his home.

We get to see Denise and Roland while Roland is still in the hospital. Roxy visits Betty in the hospital. Denise also visits Betty. We see Claudia Joy and Amanda walking on the college campus. Jeremy gets to come home.

Poor Roxy. This is her first deployment and boy-oh-boy is she having a rough time of it! The person she turns to in her times of stress and duress is Trevor and he is not there. She is not handling the explosion or Trevor's deployment well, at all. Pamela and Denise both try to help her. The problem is, no one seems to be giving her what she needs - information that Trevor is ok. All Roxy needed to hear was that Trevor was ok and she was able to gather herself back together and be the strong person that she is.

Pamela is having pangs of 'survivor's guilt'. She knows that she should have done something, but was too wrapped up in her own world to really give a crap about Marilyn and Marilyn's drama. The conversation between Roland and Pamela was oh-so dead on!! Joan is trying really hard with Roland. She still loves him very much and definitely wants to work through their difficulties. She gets Roland a hospital bed and has it set up in the downstairs so that it will be easier for him to get around.

Denise is the backbone in this episode. She spends most of her time at the hospital. Her quiet calm is reassuring for Roland, Emmalin, Michael and Roxy. It was good that Jeremy was allowed to come home. Claudia Joy and Amanda on the college campus . . . These scenes were so bittersweet. We are allowed to think that everything is ok and that all of our "loved ones" survive. But as each of the Claudia Joy/Amanda scenes unfolded, you begin to notice that things are subtley different. For me, it was like there was a barely visible fog - giving it a dream sequence quality. I began to get very scared for both Claudia Joy and Amanda - but mostly for Claudia Joy. As a parent, I cannot imagine facing what Claudia Joy is about to go through.

The most gut-wrenching scene for me was Michael Holden in the hospital room with Amanda. He's a commanding officer that can make many things happen. In that room, he was helpless. There was not one single thing that he could do and you could tell that it was THE MOST painful thing that he has ever faced in his entire life. The second most gut-wrenching scene was when Claudia Joy woke up, looked at Michael and said, "Amanda's gone, isn't she?" The sheer agony on Michael's face told Claudia Joy everything. I watched this THREE times back-to-back. Each time, I cried harder than the time before. For me, this episode REALLY did live up to all the hype!

The conclusion of season one's finale! Welcome back Army Wives! WOW! Army Wives welcome you back with a phenomenal season opener! I definitely didn't see the ending of the episode coming. I was shocked that it was Amanda that died. She will be missed! I can't wait to see the rest of the season and see what surprises unfurl! I enjoyed seeing Roxy going to Joan getting pissed not knowing anything about where Trevor was!

Side note: The actress Caroline Pires who played Emmalin Holden was not the actress who played Emmalin last night. The actress who now plays Emmalin Holden is Katelyn Pippy. Does anyone know why Caroline Pires isn't playing Emmalin anymore?

I have, like everyone else, waited patiently over the past year for Army Wives to return. I knew that in order to keep its audience the Season Premiere would have to set the stage for another phenominal season. Little did I know that I would be on the verge of tears or crying throughout the entire episode. This premiere allows us to piece together what happened that night in the Hump bar through a series of flashbacks and stories told by the principle characters. Then we have Pamela, who gives her poetic inside into how we survive and deal with tragedy. I was watching this episode with my mom and moved closer to her and sobbed as we see Amanda talking to her mother for the last time. This show does that all the time, it brings us together, verbalizes our fears and encourages us to carry on. We don't have to be Army wives to relate, because everyone can connect those feelings with their own situation. Even as I am writing this review I am still crying because the premiere was that impactful. These people's lives were turned upsie down because as Amanda said, "We were just at the wrong place at the wrong time." That can happen to anyone but, as the women in this show will learn to do, you just take it one day at a time.
