Netflix (ended 2013)
Wouldnt it be cool if Gob, Tobias, and or Lindsay moved to the office? Michael would be cool...hell the whole cast should jump in! lol but seriously those characters would be a great addition to the dunder mifflin family!
Gob living in the company office would be a funny idea (which is what I thought you meant originally until the last part of the post)
Me too! After living at Marta's, his boat, his wife's, and the rumored lighthouse, I think it would be a very natural progression for Gob to live in the office.
Michael would arrive 1st in the morning, sit at his desk, then hear "Come On!" from the washroom.
Gob: No shampoo?!!
Michael: No shower.
Gob: I made a huuuuge mistake.
But Arrested Development is a comedy and the Office isn't... it is? Well it's never made me laugh! Gob living in the company office would be a funny idea (which is what I thought you meant originally until the last part of the post) and sleeping there could be an alternative to where he actually lives (the boat, as we find out in the last episode). Although I did always picture him in a lighthouse...
Maybe not but I have a sense of humour and the UK office is hilarious but the US one is very poor.
I don't think that having AD characters in The Office would work. The shows are too different and it wouldn't be funny.
The two shows are very similar in my opinion.
Michael, GOB, Buster, and Tobias would all fit in great in the world of Dunder Mifflin.
I don't know how anyone can contest to that unless you just don't watch The Office...the humor is very, very similar. There are some differences, but those three would fit in great in The Office...especially GOB.
The shows both have quirky, non-traditional, character-based humor, even if their approach is dramatically different. So they're similar in that respect. Also Scrubs fits in there (although they're leaning away from that...I have faith they'll be able to rope the writing back in, though). A lot of comedies aren't character-based, but rather use the characters are vessles for jokes and will often have people doing something grossly out-of-character just to fit in their joke. Or work only on archetypes but Arrested Development, The Office, and Scrubs tend to have more authentic writing and care about the character they're writing for, which is what makes the shows similar in comedic style.
I don't think an Arrested Development character could move to The Office, though. The Office has a much more slow, naturalistic pace because it's intended to partially simulate real office life. Arrested Development was much more frenzied, with rapid conversations and quick jokes that you could blink and miss. Imagine going from that chaotic life to a much more slow environment, I reckon it'd drive you mad (Michael Bluth might like it though). GOB wouldn't last a day sitting at a desk.
So moving an Arrested Development character to The Office setting? I don't think it'd work. Now, a cameo in one episode would probably work very well and I would certainly love to see one! Kind of like the rumored Tobias cameo on Scrubs (or perhaps that was just a desire expressed by Zach Braff, I can't remember). Have the character pop in, but be able to leave by the end of the episode. That way, you don't permanently change the dynamic of one show nor do you run the risk of souring your favorite Arrested Development.
So a cameo would be awesome, but a permanent move would most likely not work.
