  • Lucille kidnaps George Michael for Motherboy

    9.8
It is impossible to not find this amazing Arrested Development episode funny as it has all of the things you expect from the show and more with great humour revolving around Buster’s claw, Buster’s army training, Gob’s marriage and Tobias’ acting.

The plot is fantastically written with unlimited laughs supplied throughout the episode, guaranteed to make all who watch split their sides, however literally you may want to take that comment.

Overall, if you like Gob’s sexual idiocy, subtle Burger King advertising and Motherboy costumes, you are guaranteed to love this instalment of Arrested Development, all of the characters contributing classic lines and visual humour at one stage.moreless
  • Lucille drags George Michael to Motherboy and it's up to Michael to save him.

    9.4
I love the Motherboy story. Because it's Motherboy 30, she decides to drag George Michael to it because Buster is still recovering from his hand incident. Michael worried over the traumatic impact that one Motherboy can have, so he enlists Buster's help since Buster has spent many years at this event. Seeing all those pictures of Lucille and Buster in the matching outfits is one of my favorite parts of the series. Buster tried to be a hero, and tries to go down the telephone line, but goes about two feet. Operation Hot Mother finally succeeds and Lucille and Buster get one more mother son dance. There are so many great things in this episode, such as the many outfits that Lucille brings, and Amy Poehler as Gob's wife. One of my favorite episodes of the series.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • The stuffed seal in Buster's bed is what he won in the episode "Afternoon Delight".

    • In the flashbacks of Buster & Lucille's "Best Couple" wins at Motherboy, they're wearing matching outfits. This is a reference to their appearance on the cover of Balboa Bay Window magazine and Michael's statement that "You guys wore matching outfits until he was twelve" in the episode "Switch Hitter".

    • Tobias's license plates suggest he auditioned (or hoped) for roles as a con man, a prisoner, a stand in for the Blue Man Group, and Dr. House.

    • Lucille: We had a fight. Who knows about what?
      Narrator: I do.

This marks the first time the narrator refers to himself in the first person.

    • After correcting Dave Attell on the proper use of cut-offs, Tobias mutters "there are dozens of us". He proclaimed this loudly when the crowd booed George Michael for wearing cutoffs in the Living Classics Pageant in "In God We Trust" in season 1.

    • After Buster accidentally breaks the driver side window of the stair car, some pieces of the shattered window disappear and reappear during his conversation with Michael.

    • The frame for Tobias's "INM8 2" vanity license plate says "Yes, your following..." at the top. This is grammatically incorrect. It should say "Yes, you're following..."

    • Motherboy

Motherboy was not a real band. If you look at the pictures they show during the episode, you'll see that it's really just the male members of the cast in costumes and makeup.

    • Gob and his wife would have known each other besides their marriage night as they lived together for about a week after the night.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Lucille: Do you think enough time has passed to do Sonny and Cher?
      George-Michael: Who?

    • Michael: I think it's getting too risky keeping you up here.
George, Sr.: You know what's risky? Letting your son go on that church thing.
Michael: Her name is Ann, Dad, and he's not "going" on her, ok? They're just friends.
George, Sr.: Not for long. They're making promises to each other. It's all that fidelity and pledging yourself to a woman garbage. I wine 'em and dine 'em, but I don't let them tell me what to do. (speaking to his dolls, arranged for a tea party) I don't let them tell me what to do.
Michael: Ok, I should've never taken the pumps out of here.

    • Buster: My Army training tells me that this is going to be a hot mission.
      Michael: What? A hot mission?
Buster: Yes. I create a diversion, and you grab George Michael and go. We need a name. Maybe "Operation Hot Mother."

    • Michael: Buster, you can't zip-line over there.
Buster: Either I zip down, or he zips up, and that is a mighty long zipper on Mother's Cher jumpsuit. You have to get on your knees to start it.
Michael: This is much less scary. Godspeed, Buster!

    • George, Sr.: If you play me, you got to play me like a man and not like some mincing little Polly or Nellie! I get those names confused. Apology. (to dolls) Apologies all around.

    • Tobias: What are you doing up here?
George, Sr.: I'm having a f**king tea party, what does it look like I'm doing?
(He shoves Tobias up against the wall with his hand against his mouth)
George, Sr.: I'm living up here and if you tell anyone about this, I will f**king kill you. Ah, stop licking my hand, you horse's ass.

    • Barry: You really wanna settle this, now your job is to convince that "wife" of yours that you are willing to go in front of a judge and admit that you never had sex.
Gob: She has a name Barry. You don't happen to know what it is by the way, do ya?
Barry: That's why I want to settle...I'm not "super prepared".
Gob: Well, we did have sex...and I'm not a great liar.
Narrator: Both things he just said were lies.

    • Barry: You don't want to go in front of that judge. I caught him in a drag club.
Gob: What were you doing there?
Barry: Wow, you should be the lawyer.

    • Lucille: (to George Michael) Aren't you the sweetest thing, spending some time with what's left of your uncle?

    • Michael: You know, if that hand is still intact inside the seal, Buster's got a shot at a transplant.
Gob: At the very least, we can get Buster's Swatch back, right?

    • Michael: Ok, that would be disgusting if you'd actually slept with her, but I don't think you did.
Gob: I did and it was disgusting.
Narrator: They didn't, but it would have been.

    • George, Sr.: (to the dolls) Now, who wants to take their top off?

    • Sailor Boy: Take me with you!

    • Buster: Can I open a can of soup for you?
George Michael: Can it open a can?
Buster: Can what open a can? Oh, God.
      George Michael: Oh, God.

    • Carl Weathers: I'm gonna go get a new soda. Hey, you know that you can get a refill on any drink you want here, and it's free? (laughs)
Tobias: (laughs) It's a wonderful restaurant. Mmm!
      Narrator: It sure is.

    • Michael: Oh, no. What, Buster, for the first time ever, doesn't want to do this?
Lucille: No, no, he does. It's just he's been so mopey.
Michael: Well, that could have something to do with the fact that a seal ate his hand.
Lucille: I don't know what it is.
Michael: I think that's what it is.
      Lucille: Who knows?
      Narrator: It was that.

    • Dave Attell: (referring to Tobias) If that man is straight, then I am sober.

    • Maeby: Do you guys know where I can get one of those gold necklaces with a "T" on it?
      Michael: That's a cross.
      Maeby: Across from where?

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • n/a: Abu Ghraib
The picture entered into evidence in Gob's trial is remarkably similar to pictures from the Abu Ghraib prisoner scandal.

    • Jumped the Shark

Right after Barry (played by Henry Winkler) announces he's going off to Burger King, he jumps over the shark they caught. "Jumping the shark" is a slang term for the moment at which a good show starts to take a turn for the worse. Additionally, because the phrase originated from an episode of Happy Days where Fonzie literally jumped over a shark tank with waterskis, this marked the second occasion Henry Winkler jumped the shark.

    • Visual: DR HOUSE
The personalized license plate Tobias holds up that reads "DR HOUSE" refers to the hit FOX drama House.
