Michael had scheduled a meeting with Stan Sitwell, the Bluth Company's main competitor. He planned the meeting for the model home so George Sr. can overhear everything. Tobias, meanwhile, wants to plot his route to the studio where he'll be auditioning tomorrow. Lucille arrives, complaining that Buster has not been kicked out of the Army yet.
During their meeting, Michael and Stan find themselves agreeing on many points, including a new name for the Bluth Company's new development -- Sudden Valley. Stan suggests a joint development, as well as giving one of the 450 homes to a disadvantaged family. Michael runs this proposal past George Sr., who rejects it for two reasons. One, because he rejects all of Michael's ideas as a strategy to make him work harder and two, because he thinks Stan just wants to figure out the Bluths' batting order in the upcoming company softball game -- a game that George Sr. considers a fierce rivalry, even though Stan Sitwell mainly uses the game to raise funds for charity.
Michael heads downstairs and discovers that Gob has already told Stan off. Stan, being impressed that Gob would recognize a bad deal, offers Gob a job, which he accepts. Tobias and Maeby arrive at the studio and Maeby convinces her father to get the Funke name spread around the studio before tomorrow's audition.
George Michael visits his dad at the office to suggest Ann for the company softball game, since it's a requirement to have females on the team. Michael thinks she'd make a better backup, then calls Lindsay to be the team's female presence. Lindsay, full of Teamocil, happily accepts. Gob then comes back to the office with the news that he quit Sitwell's company. Michael suggests that Gob go back to Sitwell, where Michael will help him with the job.
Lucille is still fretting about Buster, who she thinks will be shipping out shortly. Oscar tells her to call an old friend, Sgt. Bill Garvey. A man she left during Vietnam for Oscar. At the studio, Tobias begins to create his own buzz. Meanwhile, Maeby looks for an empty office to use the phone, but can't get through to George Michael, who was supposed to be writing an essay for her. An assistant enters the office and mistakes Maeby for a high-powered entertainment exec. Maeby assigns him her essay to write.
Over at Sitwell, Stan, impressed by the ideas that Michael gave Gob, offers Gob a softball as a present and asks if he wants to play for Team Sitwell this year. At home, Michael defiantly tells his father that his business ideas are good, using Sitwell's approval as proof. But George Sr. is more upset that Michael let Gob, a terrific softball player, go over to Sitwell's team. So Michael vows to win this year's game. But he realizes Lindsay will be useless, so he goes back to Ann.
Lucille visits Sgt. Garvey and performs an old USO number for him. And then Buster is pulled out of combat training and put into USO training. Elsewhere, Michael visits Gob at Sitwell and tells him to throw the softball game since that's all Sitwell hired him for anyway. Over at the studio, Tobias loses out on the role he was up for. But a development executive notices Maeby carrying around her book report for The Old Man and the Sea and, when she gives her name, thinks she's the Funke everybody's been talking about. He immediately green-lights her version of the book, starring Jude Law.
The softball game is underway. Michael feels confident about a Bluth win, until he finds out that Ann can't catch the ball, which is a real problem when playing catcher. Fortunately, Gob is playing worse than ever. But when Stan gives him a pep talk and a hug, Gob finally feels someone believes in him and hits the ball deep. He tries to stretch it into an inside the park home run and runs headfirst into Ann. However, as George Michael described it, Ann was like a wall and knocked over Gob. George Sr., who snuck into the game as the umpire, calls Gob out. Michael, frustrated by his father once again, declares Gob safe and tells his father he's going to turn him in. So George Sr. runs away.
