  • George Sr goes to Mexico

    9.6
This episode is quite shocking, mainly because George Sr dies after a series of humorous misunderstandings and shows that mistaking twins can go both ways, also showing you may not be better off revealing your true self.

The paper-scissors-rock scenario was a great aspect of this episode as was Gob in charge which brings a lot of hilarious scenes (two weeks to build a house, don’t build the insides, etc.) which pay off in the end in one very brilliant setup with Buster joining the army… since Lucille had signed him up anyway.

Overall, this episode has some hilarious moments and Gob in charge is a concept most fans would not want to miss.moreless
  • This episode shows how well this sitcom is written, I love it.

    10
This was probably one of the best written shows, even thought there are so many to choose from. This one had so many cleverly planned plots that culminate in the end, but I just love the way the characters acted in this episode. I love how Gob kept rubbing his presidency in Michael\'s face in front of Starla.
  • Rock, Paper, Scissors has never been so funny

    9.4
This episode is literally "exactly why I watch this series." Arrested Development specializes in introducing multiple subplots that have no relation to each other and then ending the episode with them all coming together in one hilarious Comedy Knot tying up all the threads. Gob is the newly appointed President and tries to impress Michael and the board by getting his own business model (an actual female model) who sits on a rock and then promises to build a model home in 2 weeks. The ribbon cutting ceremony with the model and her rock is a classic scene in this series. One of the best.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • The truck Tobias is hiding on says "Blendin Moving and Storage". Blendin is the "company" used by the feds when they're on stakeout in "Shock And Aww" and "Staff Infection".

    • The picture of the proposed child of George Sr. and Kitty is provided by the "Mommy, What Will I Look Like?" company that Lindsay started.

    • Buster's oddly-shaped reproductive organs were first referenced in "Storming the Castle": Lucille comments that Lucille 2 changed him as a baby, to which Buster replied, "That's why she wasn't surprised".

    • While Lindsay is talking to the "bum", Tobias camouflages himself within a Cloud Mir advertisement. When Michael was dating Jessie, she got Lindsay a job with Cloud Mir Vodka.

    • When George Sr. is making his case to the Mexican police, you can see the top of his head is much whiter than the rest of his head. Suggesting that he kept his yarmulke on when he escaped?

    • A picture shows George Sr. cutting the ribbon at the opening of Orange County Prison in 1983, but according to a sign seen at the entrance of this same prison in the season 1 episode "Top Banana", the prison was established in 1903.

    • George Sr. used to have hair, but he lost it over time. However, when pictures are shown of him cutting ribbons, in 1963, he has no hair at all. Then, in 1973, he has a full head of hair!

    • When Michael presents his business model, the board members have changed places when the camera changes. The Asian man is at the end of the table, but a second later, after GOB sprays his pennies, he is sitting at the front of the table.

    • A newspaper is shown with a 3-column article on GOB's becoming president of The Bluth Company. However, while the first few sentences are about the Bluths, the 2nd and 3rd columns are from a story about the arrests of a mortician and hopsital employee for tampering with dead bodies.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • George Michael: She sometimes takes a little pack of mayonnaise and she'll squirt it in her mouth all over. And then she'll take an egg and kind of...mmmm! She calls it a 'mayon-egg.' Are you okay?

    • Lindsay: There's a cream with real diamonds in it...I can actually smear diamonds on my face, and it's only $400 a tub! That's like, what? A million diamonds for $400? A million f*cking diamonds!

    • Buster: You lied to me, Mother. You told me I wasn't fit to serve!

    • Lucille: I want you out of the house.
Oscar: Oh, I want you everywhere.

    • Lucille: (regarding Oscar) You're building a house. I want you to give it to him.
Michael: It's not a real house.
Lucille: Perfect, he's not a real man.

    • Michael: You know I didn't set you up, ok? I really think the only reason you and I always fight is that since we were little kids, Dad's always played us off each other.
Gob: Dad always said that was your fault.

    • Buster: They're taking me in the army. They didn't think there was enough wrong with me.
Lucille: Well, did they check everything?
Buster: Yes! They even touched my Charlie Browns.

    • Lucille: It's not fair to Buster. He's a nervous wreck right now. He's going into the Army, for God's sake.
      Michael: You volunteered him.
Lucille: I knew you were going to throw that in my face.

    • Tobias: It is not a competition, Lindsay. We are doing this to save our marriage. But I should be telling you that I have been meeting more than my fair share of groupies. Or should I say "blue-pies"?

    • Michael: (to Gob) Get rid of the Seaward.
Lucille: I'll leave when I'm good and ready.

  • NOTES (8)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • A still photo, with a caption regarding George Sr.'s possible death, is shown on Los Mas Buscados de Mexico. Translated to English, this becomes Mexico's Most Wanted, a reference to FOX's own America's Most Wanted.

    • The falling wall stunt in this episode was taken from Buster Keaton's silent feature Steamboat Bill Jr. which has been duplicated many times, though never by another "Buster" as shown here.

    • n/a: "Mission Accomplished" banner
The ribbon cutting ceremony spoofs President George W. Bush's speech aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln on May 1, 2003, declaring an end to major combat operations in Iraq, which has been harshly criticized as being premature.
