"Arthur Babysits"

Arthur has plenty of gripes about his past babysitters, but soon finds himself trying his hand at some babysitting of his own. He ends up having the Tibble Twins' Grandma ask him to babysit the infamous Tibble Twins and he agrees to the job. Despite the warnings from both his friends and D.W., he takes on the task and quickly finds himself overwhelmed. After some quick thinking, and a willingness to keep at things, he comes up with a plan.

"Arthur's Cousin Catastrophe"

The Read Family is having a big reunion, with aardvark relatives from all over coming. Arthur normally enjoys the festivities, such as sack-racing and swapping stories, but finds himself hiding because he's worried that his cousin Mo has a big practical joke planned for him. He remembers her being awful to him in the past and is sure that she has something big planned. However, his worries might just be unfounded.

Thers nothing great about this ep and theres nothing bad about it its just pretty blah. Arthur isn't old enough to babysit anyways. I don't see how he is qualified to be a babysitter cuz on one ep he does have a babysiter himself. I also don't like the tibble twins thier a couple of annoying brats they need beaten with a stick. The cousin ep is alaright to becuase I have a big family and I have to hide from certain cousins to like Arthiur. But unlike Arthur my cousins show up alot and I have to suffer with 3 times as many.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • In the book version of "Arthur Babysits," the Tibbles are humans. Tommy Tibble wears a red cowboy hat, and Timmy wears a blue hat. Mrs. Tibble was introduced in the books in "Arthur's Halloween" (she was still a human). However, in the animated series the Tibbles seem to be aardvark-types. In all subsequent non-Step Into Reading Arthur books by Marc Brown (as late as 2004), the Tibbles still continued to be depicted as humans.

  • QUOTES (15)

  • NOTES (8)

    • Watch the characters carefully when they are all together at the Sugar Bowl in "Arthur Babysits." At various points throughout their discussion of the Tibbles, several can be seen with bags under their eyes, as if they're getting extremely tired just from the discussion.

    • Arthur's Cousin Catastrophe introduces several members of Arthur's family who have never since appeared on the show (as of the fifteenth season) --- Aunt Loretta, Uncle Bud, Cousin Mo, Aunt Bonnie, Cousin George, and several other relatives including a lively old great-grandma (the mother of Grandma Thora, a semi-regular, whom also makes a brief appearance in this story.) All the relatives come from Arthur's father's side of the family. Aunt Bonnie and Cousin George make a brief appearance in Arthur's Birthday, and Uncle Bud was also mentioned in the book version, but did not appear in the actual episode of the same name.

    • Mrs. Tibble, the Grandma of the Tibble twins, explains how to identify them in this episode. Tommy usually wears a red handkerchief, while Timmy wears a blue one.

    • Arthur discusses three of his past babysitters in "Arthur Babysits" --- Mrs. Gudder, Mrs. Schmegengy and Mrs. Featherhoffer. As a moose character, some Arthur fans believed for many years that George was related to Mrs. Schmegengy, until it was revealed that he's a part of the Nordgren family.

    • Haney Abuse Tracker: In "Arthur's Cousin Catastrophe," Mr. Haney steps out his front door to take in a bright, sunny day when he is it on the head by a stack of burgers that were sent flying by Mrs. Read's Flipomatic spatula.

    • "Arthur Babysits" is based in part on a book by Marc Brown.

    • And Now a Word From Us Kids: The kids explain that babysitting is not the easiest job. Talking about what happened in "Arthur Babysits," they explain the role of a babysitter.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Male Cousin: (giving charades answer) Honestly, On the Bridges of Medieval Paris: A Record of Early Fourteenth Century Life by Viriginia Egbert.
Female Cousin: We said pick a popular book.

One of Arthur's cousins references an obscure book about French history when playing a game of charades.
