"Arthur's Family Vacation"

Arthur will do anything to get out of going on a family vacation and go to camp, until the prospect of one-upping D.W. convinces him to give it a shot. Everyone has all sorts of exciting dream plans --- Dad's lobster dinner, fun at the beach and an exciting stay at the hotel's Family Fun Suite. From the beginning, though, things go wrong, with the plans plagued by storms, traffic, unplanned pit stops and other assorted hassles. By the time everyone's in the hotel, they're thoroughly soured on the idea of vacation. Arthur, though, comes up with an idea that may just save their plans for a fun trip.

"Grandpa Dave's Old Country Farm"

D.W. and Arthur enjoy visiting Grandpa Dave's farm, but when they get there, they find it in a far different state than they remember. The farm has gone to rack and ruin --- chickens are being kept in the bedroom and things are falling apart all over the place. Grandpa Dave is an independent country type and doesn't want any help, but he's in no condition to fix up the farm on his own. D.W. and Arthur decide that they have to find some way to help Grandpa Dave because, among other things, they want to sleep in separate beds, something they can't do as long as there's chickens in one of the bedrooms.

    • TRIVIA (5)

    • QUOTES (21)

      • (The family's car is in a traffic jam, and D.W. notices a bad odor...)
D.W.: P.U.! What's that awful smell? Did we run over a skunk?!
Kate: (imitating car motors; the smell is coming from her dirty diapers)
D.W.: GAS CHAMBER!!! AAAAAAAAAAAH! (her screaming echoes across the highway)

      • Grandpa Dave: (mock serious) Ed Billings, this farm has been in our family for over 150 years... (relaxed) it's about time we got some decent help around here.

      • Grandpa Dave: I can't make you stay here and work. What'll I tell your folks? And besides, this farm has been in our family for...
D.W.: Grandpa! We are your family!

      • D.W.: Ed, how come Grandpa Dave can't keep the farm fixed up?

      • Grandpa Dave: Ed, the day I need your help is the day hens give milk. Our family has been keeping that farm neat as a pin for...
Ed: 150 years, I know. And that's about how long that henhouse has needed a new roof.

      • Arthur: See? Bed, desk, dresser... chickens?! Huh?!

      • Arthur: It sure looks different.
        Grandpa Dave: Different? How's that?
        D.W.: Everything's falling down!

      • Grandpa Dave: Ed's just pulling my leg. For some reason, he thinks I need help to take care of my own farm.

      • D.W.: Poor Mom and Dad. What will they ever do without us for a week?

      • D.W.: Paint the house rainbow-colored, Daddy!

      • Arthur: There's one place that's always great to go on vacation --- Grandpa Dave's farm!

      • Mr. Read: Didn't I tell everyone this was gonna be a great vacation?

      • Mrs. Read: I never heard of a Cow Festival before. Good idea, Arthur.

      • Arthur: Well, at least we have the pool to ourselves.
(the pool is actually unusually small)
        D.W.
: (sarcastically) Yeah, but our bathtub is bigger than this.

      • Hotel Desk Clerk: If you'd just been here five minutes earlier. We thought you were a no-show, so the "Family Fun Suite" went to another family. Luckily, the "Ocean View Hotel" always has a vacancy.
        Arthur: Where's the ocean anyway?
Hotel Desk Clerk: Over there. Behind the shopping center and the highrise... see?
        Arthur: No.
Hotel Rabbit: (sighs) Ah. If you'd only been here a couple of years earlier.

      • Mr. Read: Hey, D.W., someone has a shark just like (cuckoo)! Oh. (laughs nervously) Honey, are you sure you tied arkyshay on ightay?
Mrs. Read: I thought you tied him on!

      • Mr. Read: Just think, guys --- lobster!
Arthur: I want a Jiffy burger!

      • D.W.: Sharky wants to ride in the car.
Mom: But there isn't any room, honey.
        D.W.
: Make Arthur ride on the roof.
        Arthur
        : (excited) Can I?

      • Arthur: If I'm old enough to take out the trash, aren't I old enough to choose my own vacation?
Mrs. Read: You didn't really think that was going to work, did you?
Arthur: It was worth a try, wasn't it?
Mrs. Read: That's an idea, though.
        Arthur: (excited) Hmm?
Mrs. Read: You could take out the trash.

      • Buster: Don't worry, Arthur. We'll fix it so you can come to camp.

      • D.W.: (singsong) Guess what, Arthur! You can't go to camp! You can't go to camp!
