It's Dora Winifred Read. D.W. has stated that she does not like the sound of her given name and prefers to go only by "D.W." See the story "D.W.'s Name Game" in which Arthur teases D.W. by repeatedly chanting her full name. "Oh yeah, well I know what you really are. You wanna know what you really are? You're such a --- Dora Winifred! Dora Winifred! Dora Winifred!"

No wonder the girl doesn't like her name. Winifred sounds like an old person's name.

Well, there is Grandma Thora --- maybe Mr. and Mrs. Read wanted a name that rhymed with "Thora." Where the Winifred comes from, dunno.

It could be Grandma Thora's middle name.

D.W stands for Dora Winifred. She goes by her initials because she doesn't like the name her parents gave her, probably because it's too long for her, can't pronounce it, or maybe it sounds weird.
