Arthur: New Arthur or Classic Arthur

Do you prefer the old episodes or the newer ones??
I like the older episodes from the first two seasons, I don't know why I just do.

Well, I tend to like the older episodes too. And I think the explanation is simple --- they were just plain better-written for the most part. And they still had the original voices.

Yeah, I like the older Arthur episodes better for the reasons stated above. I was also under the impression that having the books come out and an episode based off of it were better than the other way around (having an episode come out and a book being based off of it later).

The newer episodes just seem to give the characters some kind of ailment/condition and make a story surrounding that (George having dyslexia, Binky being allergic to peanuts, etc.).

The "middle episodes" (as in they're not so old, but they're not spankin' new, either) are pretty good and in a way, give a good mix of the elements from the older and newer episodes, like the episode where everyone entered a contest (based on an actual person who entered an Arthur contest).

Yeah I agree with you guys that the classic Arthur is definitely better which is self exclamatory since it's the classic and you can never replace classic. Although I did like the middle Arthur episodes as well. I haven't seen much of the newer ones though but from what I've seen I do miss the old ones.

Classics all the way. The main reason that I started not to like the show as much is because of the voice changes (which is horrible, I know, but it drives me crazy when that happens.) But, I just like the classics better anyway due to their storylines and the fact that I probably know some of them word for word due to watching them so many times back when I didn't have cable.

I haven't seen the new Arthur yet, so I don't know which ones is better. In the meantime, I like the classic/old Arthur.

I have always been a fan of Arthur - Even now! The show has changed over the years maybe good maybe not so good. One needs to also examine how society has changes since 1996. Children are much more exposed to the media through television, interent, aim, cell phones, ipods - so many things that we never had. I was born in 1992, but in those years I see such a vast change in the television industry. In the early days of Arthur the plots were more basic and dry. Now due to the great amount of stories told throughout the show they need to be more creative with their plots which includes learning disabilites, etc. However, when you examine the over all message behind that it is truly astonishing. Through a cartoon of so many frames a second they have been able to tell a story and teach children to accept diversity which can and will include disabilites, food allergies, and coporate America - the episodes with the country dolls of all different nationality in which they are marketed into the children's minds. In 1996 we were all 11 years younger and had a brigther look on the future or just are over all presence in the world. Coming home to see our friends Arthur, D.W, Binky and Grandma Thora were memories we cherish. It is not just the old episodes we miss, but the nostaligia of that time. One thing may also be the animation. The old cel drawing animation seemed personal while the newer flash animation seems to an extent invasive. That is not to say that I do not like it - I prefer it, in most cases. Arthur of 1996 and Arthur of 2007 while yes has changed with character voices, animation, writing quality but so have we as a society in general.

I like either. I like the classics because it's how it first started. I like the new ones also because it gives it pretty modern times.

I don't really like grouping episodes into simply "old" and "new". I think the best era was Seasons 2-7.

EDIT: Scratch that. Seasons 2-10, with the last truly great episode IMO being "Francine's Pilfered Paper" from Season 11.

Old Arthur all the way. That adaptation of the show was done in a way that could appeal to both kids and adults. The stories had good morals that were done in a way that didn't seemed forced and overall, it was just one of the best kids shows.

The new Arthur isn't good at all in my opinion. The character voices are very unfitting, the new musical score is overly cheerful, the animation is screwy, and it just turned into a typical kiddie show.
