CBS and Guiding Light led the field of Daytime Emmy Award contenders announced Wednesday, with television's longest-running soap opera clinching 17 of the network's 57 nominations.
As the World Turns, another veteran CBS daytime drama, received the second-highest number of bids for a single show with 16 nominations, while CBS dominated the overall network tally, followed by PBS with 38 nominations and ABC with 36. Syndicated programs garnered 53 nominations in all.
The winners of the 34th annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards will be announced on June 15 in a live television broadcast in Hollywood.
Comedian Ellen DeGeneres, who has swept the talk show awards at the Daytime Emmys for the last two years, was the top contender in that category for Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Her weekday syndicated program clinched 12 nominations, including bids for best talk show host and best talk show.

Most recently, CBS is using its venerated As the World Turns to try an initiative that blends broadcast and broadband. InTurn is a competition for actors vying for a role on the show, which culminates this week with each of three finalists starring in an entire episode being shown only on the network's Innertube broadband channel where fans can vote and share opinions.
InTurn has promotional value, but it also completes a mutually beneficial circle between the show's online and on-air presence while getting viewers to go deeper into the soap.

CBS's Guiding Light led the 33rd annual Daytime Emmys with four awards, but ABC's General Hospital won for best drama series during Friday's ceremony in Hollywood, the first time the event has taken place outside of New York.
Meanwhile, The Ellen DeGeneres Show won the best talk show host award for a second year and best talk show for a third. The ceremony, which was hosted by Tom Bergeron and Kelly Monaco, was broadcast on ABC from the Kodak Theatre.
General Hospital's win was its second consecutive drama series award and its ninth overall in the category. The show also won in the drama series directing category, while Anthony Geary, who portrays Luke Spencer on the show, received his fifth award for lead actor in a drama series.
