    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

    • QUOTES (5)

      • Maddie Coleman: Don't I look great?
Luke Snyder: Yes, Maddie. We're like the perfect prom couple. Except I'm gay, and your boyfriend's in jail.

      • Maddie Coleman: Were your parents total movie buffs?
Noah Mayer: Not so much. I'm an army brat, and we moved around a lot. So, for me, movies were always kind of like --
Maddie Coleman: Friends who you could take with you.

      • Alison Stewart: But, Lance is sneaky.
Dusty Donovan: And I have anger control issues. Oh well.

      • Carly Tenney: I went to the market, and I got some of your most favorite things. There's lettuce in here, and kale -- oh no, they switched my bags. Because this isn't lettuce and kale. This is ice cream and candy. Lots of candy and hot fudge sauce.
Parker Munson: Same old mom, same old jokes.

      • Carly Tenney: Oh, J.J., That's terrific. I can't tell you how much I love you guys for saving this stuff for me. Really.
Sage Snyder: Parker didn't save anything.
Parker Munson: I thought that I could just give you my notes from therapy.

    • NOTES (1)

    • ALLUSIONS (6)

      • Carly Tenney: When I left, you were conniving and vindictive. Now you've got this whole Mary Poppins / Mother Theresa thing going on.

Mary Poppins is the title character from the 1964 musical Disney film Mary Poppins who was played by Julie Andrews. Mother Theresa was an Albanian Roman Catholic nun.

      • Maddie Coleman: Hey, I happen to know on the best of the authority that Ernst Lubitsch and Victor Fleming were collators themselves.

Ernst Lubitsch was a Jewish film director born in Germany. Victor Fleming was an American Academy Award-winning film director.

      • Noah Mayer: What can't he do?
        Maddie Coleman: Casablanca.
Noah Mayer: Notorious. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
Maddie Coleman: Lawrence of Arabia. Now, Voyager.
        Noah Mayer: Casablanca.
        Maddie Coleman: I said it.
Noah Mayer: It has to be said twice.

Casablanca is an Oscar-winning romantic film from 1942 set in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. Notorious is a thriller directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock produced in 1946. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a drama film from 1939 starring Jimmy Stewart as the title character. Lawrence of Arabia is a 1962 film based on the life of T. E. Lawrence starring Peter O'Toole in the title role. Now, Voyager is a 1942 film starring Bette Davis, Paul Henreid, and Claude Rains.

      • Maddie Coleman: So, uh, Heaven Can Wait -- that's like, okay, fine.
Noah Mayer: Yeah, but it's no Here Comes Mr. Jordan.
Maddie Coleman: Well who could it be?
        Noah Mayer: Claude Rains.
Maddie Coleman: Claude Rains. He is the best.

Here Comes Mr. Jordan is a comedy film from 1941. Heaven Can Wait is a 1978 comedy film which was a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan. Claude Rains played the title role in Here Comes Mr. Jordan.

      • Jack Snyder: You know, I can now understand why Shakespeare didn't give Romeo an ex-wife and three kids.

William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy by Shakespeare.

      • Noah Mayer: I mean, think about it, if Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan had cell phones they'd -- sorry. Sometimes I forget I'm this complete geek.

Jimmy Stewart was a famous American Academy Award-winning film actor. Margaret Sullavan was an American Oscar-nominated film actress. Stewart and Sullivan co-stared in four films together.
