  • If you want to know what makes Ginger Foutley tick, this is your episode.

    9.0
Just for the last five seconds, this episode deserves an A grade. A surprise ending that puts everything in a different perspective.

But the rest is spot-on too: how the usually divided students in Ginger's class rise up against an overly strict substitute teacher is one those moments that feel so real you want to join in on the meeting. We get Miranda in a starring role as the plotting ringleader and Courtney in her slightly-out-of-this-world mode.

And we see Ginger for real: doubting, pressured in, backing out, with her sence for justice and a nagging conscience battling it out. ATBG is like the real world, doing the right thing doesn't mean you'll get rewarded.

Same goes for Mr Licorice btw, any other series would let him win the contest after his performance and turn it into some sleazy 'if you are yourself, you can do everything' thingy, but that's too easy for ATBG.

Of course it's not perfect: I really miss Darren in this episode. Ginger would always have consulted him over her issues at hand, but his character isn't in this episode.

And the behaviour of the substitute teacher was a bit exagerated.

Quote of the day is for Carl: "Wow, this is getting violent. Pass the popcorn."moreless
  • One of the worst episodes in the series. The plot of this episode is incomplete, and Ms. Grimley, the substitute teacher, was not mentioned again.

    5.4
Pathetic, incomplete, and exaggerated. Surely Ms. Dorzie could choose a better sub than that. She was incredibly harsh to her students and overworked everyone. When someone does something wrong, such as clearing their throat, She makes them do a ridiculously long essay or something. Grimley made Miranda, Ginger, and Courtney do a 17,000 word essay on the Cotton Gin just for passing notes in class. That is a TOTALLY unfair punishment for them, she should just made them write "no passing notes in class" on paper several times. That's all. Ms. Grimley is either stupid or from a different part of the world where punishment is more intense. On the other hand, it was painful to see Brandon and Mr. Licorice be booed out on stage. Even when Licorice played the instrument perfectly, the crowd was still not impressed. This episode ended when Ginger stood up to the teacher and said things to her about being too mean. Ginger later wound up in detention and the episode ends.moreless
