Episode Summary

EDIT
Testing Water Quality/What Is It?/Replacing a Damaged Floorboard
AIRED:
Richard and a water specialist Mike Barone examine a homeowner's water quality and discuss the installation of a water softener and sediment filter. A test from an independent laboratory revealed there were no harmful contaminants in the water, but that there were elevated levels of magnesium and calcium, which resulted in hard water. In the Ask This Old House loft, Tom, Richard, Roger and Kevin examine an unfamiliar object and try to guess how it is used. Then Tom makes a house call to help a homeowner replace a rotten board in her oak hardwood flooring by removing the damaged section of red oak tongue-and-groove strip flooring by drilling several holes along the center of the board and chiseling out the remaining pieces.moreless
