It's the first episode of Attack of the Show after the 2006 E3 coverage, and I was dreading it. All during E3, Kevin and Olivia were hinting about the change in the show format, yet again. How many set/design/remakes does it take G4? Well, I was setting myself up for disappointment - I'm a fanboy and I fear change. The commerical they were using at E3 was cool, but I was still waiting to be mad yet again at G4. However, after watching, I realized I may have been wrong.
The new intro looks better, but it was a bit off. I think the music needed to be less interrupted. But it was nicer looking than the previous "Soviet" intro. The clips of the cars and such did remind me of some subliminal psychological tests I had in college though.
The new set is an improvement in that it opens things up more and while it has more empty space, it looks more comfortable for the hosts, that were usually standing at the begin of the show (Poor Sarah). They do need to lose the creepy TV-head guys.
The worse factors of the new show is the "Headline Newz" ticker at the bottom of the screen which now lists random notes that were usuall reserved for "The Feed" segments. If I wanted my news up-to-date I would check out the latest rerun of Headline News. Then there was the sports related stuff. If I wanted to watch sports I would check out the experts at ESPN. Those two things were the only bad things I had with the new look of the show
As for the show, they kept to the direction the show had already taken, but they stayed true to the technological/video game oriented base that it's fanbase has come to enjoy with the E3 coverage as well a interview with someone from a Sci-Fi show, Tricia Helfer.
I thought they were going to really mess things up with AotS, like they did with Filter, but I was wrong. So I'll keep watching as long as they don't mess with it too much more.moreless
