this was probably my least favourite episode of the entire series ..im not saying it was bad but it just didnt interest me and i love animals and atla but i guess for me it was missing a little somethin somethin. I liked the tale of momo more.It could be because my favourite animals on this show is flopsy, hei bai, bosco, the lion turtle and the dragons...anyway glad it finally have appa back.
  • Not that good.

    "Good"
I really didn't like this episode for many reasons why. An obvious reason is that Appa was practically tortured in this episode. There were only two things that were good about this episode. That awesome fight between Suki and the other Kyoshi Warriors fighting Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee. We learned that Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee wound up winning but, it was still a very good fight with many shocks. If only it didn't stop it. The other good thing was the character devopement of Guru Pathik, he is a 150 years old that was a special friend of Monk Gyatso, Aang's mentor. Overall, this was an okay episode and I give it a 7.8.
  • Appa's Lost Days

Appa's Lost Days was an amazingly superb and entertaining episode of Avatar The Last Airbender. This episode was a focus on what has happened to Appa since he was captured by the Sandbenders. Appa has undergone such an unexpected journey that really touches the heart. I found this episode compelling as it was from Appa's point of view, and from being in a circus to battling Azula with the Kyoshi Warriors, and an unexpected friend at the Eastern Air Temple, this episode was full of surprises and interesting circumstances. I look forward to watching the next episode of Avatar The Last Airbender!!!!!!!
  • A story without words is still effective.

This is almost like a continuation of last episode; a "what have they been doing lately" type of episode, except this one is fully dedicated to Appa and his whereabouts since being taken from the sand benders. This one is clearly inferior in almost every way; without much dialogue, there wasn't much room to be successful. Though like the Momo sequence the last episode showed, you don't need human speech to portray a story. The episode did a wonderful job of portraying Appa's emotions through just sheer action. The only downfall is that Momo's was nice because it was only like five minutes. This feels like the quality of it was expanded to fit the half hour deadline. Not that there's anything wrong with that; still a great episode.
  • Poor Appa...we finally learn what has been happening to him since his kidnapping...

I like Appa, and this episode was hard for me to watch. Appa was kidnapped by the Sandbenders and sold to merchants. He is forced to listen to an Animal Tamer in order to "earn" his food. The Animal Tamer has him perform in a circus in front of thousands. Appa doesn't do what's expected of him, and he gets whipped for it. The small boy that reminds Appa of Aang helps Appa get food and escape. Appa returns to the library where he was kidnapped and searches for Aang. Not finding him, Appa devotes his time to search for food.
  • This episode is so touching. I love animals, so this episode just really makes me sad. It's great, just a depresser.

Appa's Lost Days really made me realize how cruel people can be. Yes it is animated and fake, but still, this episode has a great message. DON'T ABUSE ANIMALS!!! The Momo scene(s) were very tear jerking. You always saw Momo teasing Appa and he would just ignore him, but really, they have a really strong relationship. They are the last mamals of the Air Nation. They are so close. The feelings that you can get from this episode, (let me state it once more) which is an animated TV Show targeted for kids, are more than you can get from any other similarly themed epsiode from another series. This episode will definately go in my book of favorites!

This episode spans a period of four weeks, from the end of The Library to just before Tales of Ba Sing Se, detailing Appa's adventures after he was captured by the Sandbenders outside of Wan Shi Tong's library. The Episode begins with Appa's capture in the earlier episode. Sandbenders attack Appa with intent to capture him, while Toph, her hearing is hampered by the sand, and divided by the need to prevent the library from sinking, is unable to help. The Sandbenders drag Appa away, until Ghashiun, the leader of the group, orders Appa's saddle ransacked for any valuables, but nothing more valuable than Sokka's club is found. Appa tries to fight back once more, destroying one of the sand sailer's, but Ghashiun is unfazed, as that sailer had been stolen from another tribe in the first place. He tosses the supplies on the saddle away, and continues with his plan to sell Appa to a group of Earth Kingdom merchants with beetle-like hats. After a little debate, the merchants decide to buy Appa, giving the Sandbender's a small chest with the money. The merchants start to drag Appa into a position so they can secure him on a caged sled , but once Appa is fastened into the sled, Aang blows his whistle during his search for Appa. Appa hears the whistle and begins to struggle, lifting the entire sled off the ground. The merchants decided to shoot Appa with some Shirshu spit darts fired from a blowgun. The darts land in Appa's foot and he falls quickly to the ground. Before he is unconscious, he sees the giant cloud created by a frustrated Aang as he hears the two merchants discuss selling him for parts. Appa next wakes up inside a small cage, along with several other animals. A firebender talks to him and seems sympathize, but it immediately becomes apparent that he is an Animal Tamer, and intends to break Appa to his will. He begins by feeding the other animals, but not Appa. Instead, he lets out a Vulture Griffin and shows how Appa will "earn" his food by sending the Vulture Griffin through hoops. While the Animal Tamer is performing tricks, Appa slyly sucks in air, pulling the cabbages from the cart to his mouth. The Tamer furiously threatens Appa with fire. That night, the circus is performing in a Fire Nation town. Appa tries to pull a bale of hay closer to him to eat, but it is much heavier than a cabbage. A small boy, waiting for his father to return with some "sizzle crisps," disobeys his father's orders not to move, and helps Appa by moving the hay close enough for him to eat. He stays with Appa, only leaving when the Animal Tamer comes back. The Animal Tamer speaks to the circus' Ringmaster of how Appa is not "ready" to perform and how he needs more time, but the Ringmaster tells him that a circus is, "the home of Fear and Danger," and that Appa will perform that night. During the show, Appa is introduced as "The Wind Buffalo," and dressed in a garish costume and makeup. The crowd laughs at the sight of Appa, and the Animal Tamer attempts to get Appa to fly by shouting, "Up." Appa spins around, and the crowd laughs more, only infuriating the Animal Tamer, who strikes at Appa with a whip of flame. Appa flies up and goes through a burning hoop and stands up on a high-rising platform, then flies through another hoop. However, Appa's costume catches on fire, and he slaps the hoop to the ground, striking the Animal Tamer on the head and knocking him to the ground. The crowd laughs again. Appa lands, and sees the boy who helped him earlier, who reminds him of Aang. The boy yells at Appa, telling to escape, and as Appa flies up, the Animal Tamers gets back up and is about to strike Appa with the whip, only to have Appa send him flying through the Circus tent. Appa manages to slip through an airhole at the top side of the tent, and escapes, leaving behind his costume for the small boy to watch and smile. Appa flies back to the spot where the library was, only to find it completely buried. He tries to dig it out, but decides it a futile effort, and flies off. Feeling hungry, Appa lands to find food. He starts to move towards a giant purple egg, and just as he is about to eat it, a bipedal lizard runs off with the egg held above his head. He then turns over and goes to eat a cactus, scaring away a jackalope in the process: However, Appa eats the whole cactus, and gets a mouth full of thorns for his trouble. Appa lifts off again, and finds himself in the Buzzard-Wasp nest that Aang and the gang travelled to, quickly earning the ire of its inhabitants. Appa manages to fight them off, and collapses in the sand, trying to get at the honey on his feet. That night, Appa wanders into a farm, where he goes into an open barn, and eats some hay and water. Appa then collapses, exhausted, on the ground, dreaming of his past: At the Eastern Air Temple, an airbending nun is preparing several children to bond with a group of young Flying Bison. She gives each of them an apple, telling them how to chose a bison carefully, because a bison is a companion for life. One of the boys is Aang, who soon finds Appa and offers him the fruit; Appa happily devours it before pushing Aang over and licking his face. Aang laughs, saying how this must mean the two will be together forever. The scene switches to Aang, sleeping with the group during "The Serpent's Pass", who is having the same exact dream as Appa. Appa is startled awake by a farmer who, frightened of Appa's immense size, is attacking him with a pitchfork. The man's wife, drawn by his cries, comes to the barn with a torch to check out what is going on. Appa, now frightened of fire due to his time with the Tamer, rears up and backs into the barn, damaging the wall before flying out straight through the roof and flying off. Appa's path takes him directly over the Serpent's Pass, where Iroh sees him in the sky. Zuko, awakened by his uncle's reaction, asks him what is going on, but Iroh decides not to tell him about it. Appa continues to fly, finding his landing in the middle of a forest. Exhausted, he lands in front of an overgrown doorway. As Appa tries to stand up, a porcupine boar comes charging out of the passage, tackling him and sending them both tumbling down the hillside. Appa is stuck with several quills, but manages to fight off the boar, claiming the ruin as his own. The next day, the The Warriors of Kyoshi are out picking berries when one notices the damage caused by the fight, as well as several clumps of white fur. Suki, recognizing the fur as Appa's, finds him still sleeping. Appa, however is now frightened of people, and is reluctant to let her get closer, despite the gift of fruit she leaves him. Suki gathers the rest of the warriors, and calms Appa down by telling him how she wants to help him and return him to Aang. The girls remove the quills left from the boar and clean his fur, but their celebration is short-lived as a blast of blue flames knocks a tree over. Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee show up, still perusing the Avatar. The Warriors of Kyoshi defend Appa, but Azula and her friends are far more formidable opponents than they've faced before. Grabbing a burning branch, Suki uses it to get Appa to leave and search for Aang. Still frightened by the fire, Appa flies off, as Suki turns to engage Azula in combat. Appa flies far away, passing over a group of Water Tribe ships, where Katara and Sokka's father sees him flying above. He eventually makes his way back to the Eastern Air Temple, where he remembers his early days, playing with his siblings as a calf. As Appa walks around, he stumbles upon an old man who he thinks is Aang: After tackling him and licking him happily he finds that the man is not Aang, and he backs away and growls at the man. The man, who calls himself Guru Pathik, understands that he is not the person Appa expected, and he simply lies back, looking at Appa ever so often, and receiving a growl in return. Eventually, night settles in, and Appa falls asleep. the Guru reads Appa's energy, remarking on how Appa is so full of Love and Trust, but at the same time Fear is moving into where Trust should be. He also tells of how he had a vision of Aang and Appa years ago, and decided to come to the Eastern Air Temple and wait for the two. He then leaves Appa to rest, saying how Appa must let the clouds in his mind part and be at peace. Come morning, Appa finds him meditating with a group of animals surrounding him. Appa decides to leave the man alone, and after flying around a bit, he comes to rest next to the guru at the top of the Temple. the Guru gives Appa a note, which he ties to his horn, and then proceeds to tell Appa about how much his energy and Aang's is intertwined. As he tells Appa this, he puts his hand to Appa's forehead, and tells Appa where to find Aang. Appa flies off, heading off to Ba Sing Se. As Appa flies into Ba Sing Se, we see two Dai Li members on the rooftops, then sliding off the roof. Appa continues to fly around, until suddenly he hears something. Under the gaze of three Pygmy Panthers, Appa lands in the middle of the city, where, deep in the shadows, he sees a man blowing a whistle. The man, however, is revealed to be Long Feng and after a swift and powerful Earthbending move, captures Appa underground, leaving only a single footprint in the mud, that the Panthers will lead Momo to find later that night.

Awwww! Poor appa! in this episode we recall what appa has encountered for the past 4 weeks being separated away from the gaang.

We see Appa being tortured by the sandbenders and being sold in the fire nation circus (The same circus where Ty Lee was working) and abusing him as the "Wind Buffalo" he met a lit tle boy who was really kind to him. When Appa escapes he was attacked by some guys and a porcupine pig, so they had the same dream as aang where we see a glimpse of how he met aang, I have to admit that was so touching! and I was sad of appa's new fear of fire. so after many days he met with Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors where he is helped but separated in the end because Ozai's angels attacked them and it was left unknown what happened to them (cliffhanger) so when appa went to the eastern air temple where the Guru was and told him where aang is. The twist in the end was really shocking because Long Feng Captured appa. Tearjerker episode
  • How can a cartoon make me cry?

Well I didn't exactly cry but I did have to hold back a few times.

One would think that an episode dedicated entirely to a character that can't talk, and an animal at that, would be slow and boring. Well not so. This was probably one of the best episodes in the series up to that point.

This episode removed all doubt, in my mind anyway, that Appa is not a major character in the show. Yes he has helped the gang out numerous time during fights but he can also hold his own as well.

I watched this episode while in Iraq and Appa reminds me of my dog Daja. They have similar qualities and all I kept thinking was of my Daja being lost and having to fend for herself.

This episode could not have been written, animated and produced any better. The combination of music, flashbacks and overall story was excellent. Again I had to hold back tears numerous times in the 20 minutes or so that this episode lasted.

Quick note before I conclude. I really, really hope this show gets released in high def so that one day I can watch it with my kids (which I don't have any of yet).

What was possible at being a bad episode turns out to be a great one. My first thoughts about how the episode might come out, were that it might be bad because the whole story revolved around a non speaking animal. But I kept my hopes up and they were not lost. "Appa's Lost Days" is compelling, sad, adventourous, and even triumphant. The character of Appa too is well done. Though even before this episode, you get an idea of Appa's personality and loyalty to his owner. The best part aboout this episode in general is how well it meshes in back tracking and coming to the present. It doesn't miss a beat and neither do you. It all works together.
  • This Episode was neat! Appa has his story of how he got captured and where he finally ends up which is underneath a certain section of ground in Ba Sing Se.

Splendid. the organization of the stealing of the flying bison first leads to Appa being taken by the Sandbenders and being traded so the leader gets his treasure! Appa puts up a fight but the people who take him shoot him with tranquilizers. Appa ends up at a circus and is being abused. Soon after he gets taken to put on a show Appa figures out a way to escape and then finds refuge in a hut with a lot of hay. The last result has Appa finding and landing in Ba Sing Se. Too bad it wasn't exactly the right place for him to land since he gets figured out and is trapped undneath the Stone Walkway. Especially in the desert area its something that has never been shown before and is a special place not like any other places of the world. The Desert area was also featured in The Library and The Desert!

I really liked this episode. It finally told us what happened to Appa and it told us where he is now. It really stinks that he had to go through all of that and almost get burnt too. I wanted to smack that circus Firebender so hard across the head. Anyway, it was nice but there wasn't much talking in the episode. However, I do like the part where Suki and the other warriors find him, help him, and then defend him. Anyone else starting to hate Azula so much that they wish she would fall in a pit of lava already? All in all, it was a good episode.
  • The events surrounding Appa's theft are revealed, and the episode dwells on his experiences alone.

    9.2

An episode which reveals the experiance of Appa during his separation from the group. This is a somewhat unusual angle to take, and not one that I would usually enjoy. However, the abnormal format is actually highly effective. The episode sheds light on past events, fitting intricately and effectively into the chronology of previous episodes. The story is interestingly emotional, and invites the audience to sympathise with Appa through his ordeal. One negative is that the episode takes up space at a time when the finale is approaching, and it is difficult not to feel slightly unsatisfied. The story closes with no further progression than last weeks, and one experiances a desire to know what will happen, not what has happened. Despite this, "Appa's Lost Days" is an excellent episode which really demonstrates the characteristics which make Avatar so good.
  • A lovely episode, finally we see something from his eyes.

  • A sad account of what happens to Appa after the sandbenders take him away.

    9.0
    "Superb"
This is indeed a very sad episode. I don't know how else to say it. I have always been a sucker for animal centered - episodes. It shows the struggle, anxiety, fear, comfort and love previously unexpressed in Appa. It starts when the Sandbenders are trying to tie him down and Appa is struggling until the end. Then he is given to the beetle-traders. eventually he finds himself in a circus, where a cruel 'trainer' attempts to starve Appa into submission. However, Appa is wily and finds ways to fill his six stomachs. A small boy, bearing a striking resemblance to Aang, sympathizes with Appa and encourages him to escape. Appa does, flying through many episodes. (The Library, Zuko Alone, The Kyoshi Warriors) until he finds a cave to rest in. However, it is already occupied and Appa has to fight to gain it, earning many prickly spines in the process. Finally, spent, depressed, deprived, and starved, he sets down to sleep for 2 full days before the Kyoshi warriors find him and nurse him back to health. However, this good luck is short lived as Ozai's Angels find him and attack the Kyoshi warriors, forcing Appa to take to the air once more. He makes his way to the (southern?) air temple where he grew up. Here he meets Guru Patik, who will play an important roll later on. With the Guru's help, he makes his way to Ba Sing Se in search of his life long friend, Aang. However, he is tricked by the Dai Li and Long Feng, and is captured. All in all, this episode is great. It shows the many emotions of Appa that could not be shown in previous episodes. I loved it.

    The Desert

The episode begins with Appa's capture in the earlier episode. Sandbenders attack Appa with intent to capture him, while Toph is forced between keeping the library above ground. Unable to clearly "see" what's happening to Appa, she is unable to help.

The Sandbenders try to drag Appa away, until Ghashiun, the leader of the group, orders Appa's saddle ransacked for any valuables. However, the Sandbenders find nothing more valuable than Sokka's club and Aunt Wu's umbrella. Appa tries to fight back once more, destroying one of the sand sailers, but Ghashiun is not fazed, as that sailer had been stolen from another tribe in the first place. He tosses the supplies in the saddle away, and continues with his plan to sell Appa to a group of Earth Kingdom merchants with beetle-like hats.

After a little debate, the merchants decide to buy Appa, giving the Sandbenders a small chest with the money. The merchants secure Appa on a caged sled, but once Appa is fastened down, Aang, hunting for Appa on his glider, blows his bison whistle. Appa hears the whistle and begins to struggle, lifting the entire sled off the ground. The merchants shoot Appa with some Shirshu spit darts fired from a blowgun. The darts land in Appa's foot, causing Appa to fall to the ground and fall asleep. Before the tranquilizer takes total effect, he sees the giant mushroom cloud created by a frustrated Aang and hears the two merchants discuss selling him for parts. The Circus

Appa dressed up as "The Wind Buffalo" at a Fire Nation circus.

Appa dressed up as "The Wind Buffalo" at a Fire Nation circus.

Appa next wakes up inside a small cage, along with several other animals. A Firebender talks to him and seems to sympathize, but it immediately becomes apparent that he is an Animal Tamer, and intends to forcibly break Appa to his will.

A small, barefoot boy, waiting for his father to return with some "sizzle crisps," disobeys his father's orders not to move, and helps Appa by moving the hay close enough for him to eat. He stays with Appa, only leaving when the Animal Tamer comes back. The Animal Tamer tells the circus' Ringmaster that Appa is stubborn and wilful and it is too risky to let him perform, he needs more time. The Ringmaster is unimpressed and tells him that a circus is "the home of Fear and Danger," and that Appa will perform that night.

During the circus performance, Appa is introduced as "The Wind Buffalo," and dressed in a garish costume and makeup resembling a Chinese Imperial guardian lion. The boy yells at Appa, telling him to escape, and as Appa flies up, the Animal Tamer gets back up and is about to strike Appa with the whip, only to have Appa send him flying through the Circus tent. Appa manages to slip through an air hole at the top side of the tent, and escapes, leaving behind his costume for the small boy to watch and smile.

    [edit] The Library

Appa flies back to the spot where the library was, only to find it completely buried. He tries to dig it out, but decides it a futile effort, and flies off. Feeling hungry, Appa lands to find food. He starts to move towards a giant purple egg, and just as he is about to eat it, a bipedal lizard runs off with the egg held above his head. He then turns over and goes to eat a cactus, scaring away a jackalope in the process: However, Appa eats the whole cactus, and gets a mouth full of thorns for his trouble. Appa lifts off again, and finds himself in the Buzzard-Wasp nest that Aang and the gang traveled to, quickly earning the ire of its inhabitants.

She gives each of them an apple, telling them how to choose a bison carefully, because a bison is a companion for life. One of the boys is Aang, who soon finds Appa and offers him the fruit; Appa happily devours it before pushing Aang over and licking his face. Aang laughs, saying how this must mean the two will be together forever. The scene switches to Aang, sleeping with the group during "The Serpent's Pass," who is having the same exact dream as Appa.

    [edit] Iroh

Appa is startled awake by a farmer who, frightened of Appa's immense size, is attacking him with a pitchfork. The man's wife, drawn by his cries, comes to the barn with a torch to check out what is going on. Appa, now frightened of fire due to his time with the Tamer, rears up and backs into the barn, damaging the wall before flying out straight through the roof and flying off. Appa's path takes him directly over the Serpent's Pass, where Iroh sees him in the sky. Zuko, awakened by his uncle's reaction, asks him what is going on, but Iroh tells Zuko to go back to sleep rather than let him know.Kyoshi WarriorsAppa continues to fly, finding his landing in the middle of a forest. Exhausted, he lands in front of an overgrown doorway. As Appa tries to stand up, a Boar-Q-Pine comes charging out of the passage, tackling him and sending them both tumbling down the hillside. Appa is stuck with several quills, but manages to fight off the boar, claiming the ruin as his own.

The next day, the The Warriors of Kyoshi are out picking berries when one notices the damage caused by the fight, as well as several clumps of white fur hanging from the bushes. Suki, recognizing the fur as Appa's, finds him still sleeping. (Dialogue indicates this part of the episode takes place after "The Serpent's Pass," meaning Suki has already left Aang and the others, and knows that they are in Ba Sing Se looking for Appa.) Appa, however is now frightened of people, and is reluctant to let her get closer, despite the gift of fruit she leaves him. Suki gathers the rest of the warriors, and calms Appa down, but she isn't successful at first. After mentioning that they can bring him back to Aang, Appa is willing to accept their help.

The girls remove the quills left from the boar and clean his fur, but their celebration is short-lived as a blast of blue flames knocks a tree over. Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee show up, still pursuing the Avatar. The Warriors of Kyoshi defend Appa, but the Fire Nation warriors are far more formidable opponents than they've faced before. Suki tells Appa to get away and Appa does but then begins to turn back to help Suki, but Appa backs away from the fight when Azula taunts Appa about his fear of flames, telling him "he should be." Suki grabs a burning branch in an attempt to keep Appa away. Still frightened by the fire, Appa flies off, as Suki engages Azula in combat. However, Appa does not witness the final outcome of the battle.

    [edit] Guru Pathik

Appa flies far away, passing over a group of Water Tribe ships, and is seen by Hakoda; Katara and Sokka's father. Appa eventually makes his way back to the Eastern Air Temple, where he remembers his early days, playing with his siblings as a calf. As Appa walks around, he stumbles upon a bald old man who he thinks is an Airbender monk. After tackling him and licking him happily he finds that the man is not an Airbender, and he backs away and growls at the stranger.

Come morning, Appa follows a trail of fruit made by the Guru which eventually leads Appa to find the Guru meditating with a group of animals surrounding him. Appa flies off, heading to Ba Sing Se.

    [edit] Ba Sing Se

As Appa flies into Ba Sing Se, two Dai Li agents can be seen crouching on the rooftops, then sliding off the roof. Appa continues to fly around, until suddenly he hears something the sounds like a bison whistle just like the one Aang has. Under the gaze of three Pygmy Pumas, Appa lands in the middle of the city, where, deep in the shadows, he sees someone blowing a whistle. Appa is surprised to see that it's was not Aang, but instead, it's non other than Long Feng, and after a swift and powerful Earthbending move, he flips the ground beneath Appa's feet and captures him underground, leaving only a single footprint in the mud. The Pumas will lead Momo to find the footprint later in "The Tales of Ba Sing Se."

this was a great episode. It tells of waht appa has been doing over the time that he was missing. It also introduces some other characters and important things go on the viewers know about that the characters don't know about. This was a creative way to inddroduce things. Suki might or might not be dead, that is defeinetly something to wonder about. Sokka will definetly be sad if suki dies and that would make him an official chic killer. I wonder what hte message on appa's horns says. It is probably somehting to do witht he mind because the guru seems like some spiritual person.

Egads it was so hard to watch this episode. After seeing Aang so totally devasted over the loss of Appa and seeing firsthand how many times they were so ironically close to reuniting, good grief, it puts a lump in your throat. Man alive. I think for me the most poignant thing about this episode was the truth that no one really is going to understand Aang as well as Appa. I know Appa is a 10-ton bison, so how much could he understand? Well the fact is no one else is from the 100-year-old pre-war world but Aang and Appa. They share not only their airbending heritage in common but they are also creatures out of time, meaning this newfound world after the iceberg is equally strange and foreign to both of them. I love this episode but find it hard to watch again and again because it's just so sad!
  • finnaly, an episode where we get to see the whole thing through appa's eyes.

  • What Appa was doing the past 7 episodes.

    9.8
    "Superb"
Alternate storylines never get old. This episode reveals what Appa was doing when he was captured by the sand bandits. Appa went through many horrible things, such as being sent to a circus owned by an evil tamer. It makes you actually feel bad for Appa. However, he had good times, like when he was dreaming of when Aang got him as a pet. The action and sympathy are blended together in this particular episode. Better yet, he meets up with the Kyoshi Warriors, who meet up with Azula. Overall, this makes for a great summary for what Appa went through on his own.

This episode was not particularly one of my favorites, but I still enjoyed it. I never really thought of Apppa as a main character and a huge asset to the gAang until we saw them suffer without Appa. Also, we got a taste of Appa's feelings and memories in this episode, which was a nice touch. Also, the ending is revealing. We learn the true ambition of the Dai Li and Long Feng (dear Lord, almost called him Sao Feng. ^_^). In the later episodes, we will truly see the wrath of him and his 'cultural police.' Stupid commies. So, all in all, not a memorable episode, but it was a nice change and certainly adds to the plot.
  • A very important episode to season 2. At times it was hard to watch because it was so sad.

In this episode we are filled in on where Appa's been and what's happened to him since we last saw him being captured in the episode The Library. After his capture, he is traded to some merchants, but they realize they can't handle him, so they sell him to a fire nation circus where he escapes. Eventually, Suki, the lead Kyoshi warrior, finds Appa in a horrible and an unrecognizeable condition. So she and the other Kyoshi warriors nurse him back to health. But just as things are starting to look up for Appa, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee show up and try to capture him. Appa is forced to leave the Kyoshi warriors fighting off the fire nation girls, and he flys to the Eastern Air Temple. There he finds a guru who tells him where to find Aang. But before Appa leaves, the guru attaches a very important letter to one of his horns for Aang. As Appa flys into Ba Sing Se, he hears a bision whistle and flys toward the sound. Unfortunately, it's Long Feng blowing the whistle, not Aang. The episode ends with Appa being recaptured. Although this episode answers many questions, it creates many more.
