    M. Night Shyamalan and Paramount will be bringing Avatar: The Last Airbender to the big screen. And this should be interesting... it's going to be live-action.

I don't see how they can do this and NOT ruin the series... The article wasn't very informative though. Will they movies even fit in with the plot and advance the story or will they stand alone from the actual series completey? Maybe the movies will take several already made episode and translate those to a live action movie? I really don't see how it can ever work out..... But, if the creators are behind it (which the article didn't seem to mention anything about) then I guess it would be good.....

    I don't think so.

Also M. Night Shyamalan's only good movie was The Sixth Sense and that wasn't so great. Also it seems his directing theme is water.

how did he get the rights to do that...

also he's a horrible person to do something like this, if he writes and produces an avatar movie it will be total garbage.

If there are three movies, they'll maybe be based on the three seasons. Hitchicker's guide to the galaxy was based off of the books, and in a single movie managed to cover a few of them(as I heard). And it turned out kinda okay. I don't know, if the movies actually get made, we'll just have to hope for the best. *shrugs* It might ruin the avatar name, it might not. But who here is seriously not gonna watch them if they make it to the big screen?

I haven't seen one animated or video game to movie that has been done well. But, I'll keep my hopes up, cuz for M. Knight to wanna make this movie it means he's a fan, so hopefully he knows what makes the show good and can translate that to the big screen. I still say any Avatar movie should be an animated one...

This is just about ridiculous.  We were all talking about this recently.  We even created an official forum to write the script.  Wouldn't it be funny if M. Knight was on our forums and got the idea from us.  Now he is waiting for our script.  This just cracks me up.  Then we get no credit what-so-ever.  This just seems to the story of my life.  I have written a book that is similar to a present day Avatar.  There are some major differences between my book and Avatar.  I love Avatar as a show and since it aligns with my book.  However my book was in the works for years before the show even aired.  So what is funny about the whole thing is that everyone is now doing something that involves the 4 elements.  All of a sudden that is the new fad.  Sorry if I am ranting but sometimes I feel like that movie The Truman Show.  I change shampoo conditioner and suddenly the stores start running out of it.  Lol.  Do all of you feel this way sometimes?

Come on, guys. This is awesome news. We all wanted an Avatar movie. So now we're getting a LIVE ACTION one. Kickass...but nonetheless IT'S AN AVATAR THEATRICAL FILM. You can't tell me this will be kickass will all the special effects. Only thing that bugs me is the Avatar guys aren't writing it. But who knows...

I wonder how they'll do Air and Waterbending. I already have Earth and Firebending being done realistically in my head. But, all the other two. I'm excited, skeptical, and annoyed all at once...

I just checked cnn.com and they dont mention anything about this. No real news website has confirmed this info. Everything sounds hoaxy to me, especially since n00bs created this thread.

First, Variety has the info on their website and they are a reliable source, period end of story. Second, here is M. Night Shyamalan's mailing address should you wish to write to him:

    M. Night Shyamalan

    c/o United Talent Agency
    9560 Wilshire Blvd.
    5th Floor
    Beverly Hills, CA 90212

    Secondary address:

    c/o Bloom, Hergott & Cook
    150 South Rodeo Drive
    3rd Floor
    Beverly Hills, CA 90212

My wife and I are going to write to him and say something like, "You had better NOT screw this up or you will be getting hate mail for the rest of your life..."

Does seem awfully iffy. I'm kinda hoping this turns out to be false myself. Like Zuko going Aang, I'm against a live action movie...

Well the waterbending will be similar to the water effect in the Abyss and Terminator 2.  As for the airbending they will just use fans to make people blow around or something.

As for this being a hoax I doubt it.  The reason why I say that is because of it being on Yahoo.  That is more official than the site mentioned here.

OMG :[ I was thinking last night, and (don't get mad at me)...NOT hoping for an avatar movie..BUT HERE'S MY REASONING!

Unlike Spongebob, and Rugrats, and the Wild Thornberrys, AVATAR HAS A PLOT Spongebob could make a movie because theres no plot, so they could just do anything. THat means people who normally don't watch spongebob mioght watch it...Unlike Avatar (which has a plot, I remind u :]) They would have like the season 3 finale on the big screen or something...So it might only draw in a crowd of people who already WATCH the tv show, even though its popular, it might not be SUPER popular in every state or wutnot...I just hop this doesn't flop :[ If it does..I'm gonna feel REALLY REALLY bad for the creators...I really hope the creators do have a say in this.. :[ With Night doing it, it's gonna be all...The waterbenders are born out of the water, earth out of earth, fire out of fire....Pooldude, I know what your saying, the special effects would be awesome! But they have to get the ABSOLUTE PERFECT CAST, and the clothing is important too...If they dont get it just right..it'll look really stupid :[ I'm scared for this movie now :[
