The Drill was a really superb episode of Avatar The Last Airbender. This episode was very entertaining, full of action, drama, intrigue, character and plot development. I thought this episode was cool because we got to see a glimpse of the great Earth Kingdom City's outer Defense. It was cool to see Azula, Ty Lee and Mai in action again as they tried to preven the Avatar and gang from disabling their drill. I think this episode turned out well. I thought it was interesting that Jet picked up on Iroh heating his tea and he has decided to follow Iroh and Zuko. I look forward to watching the next episode!!!!!!!
  • Another Avatar episode, another quality watch.

    9.0
Unlike other episodes, this doesn't really have a life lesson or issue with morality. Despite this we are still treated to an excellent episode filled with some awesome action, showdowns, and potential tension between two of Aang's enemies. Like in almost every episode, it's impressive how elemental bending can serve the people in the Avatar world in terms of technological engineering. The way those soldiers used earth bending as a vehicle, trains, etc. The showdowns between the various fighters weren't the best in the show; there have been better action and fight scenes before, but the showdowns themselves were just exciting. And there's also the Jet and Zuko conflict that will eventually turn into an all out war between the two factions. Exciting to see what will happen out of that.

  • Aang and the gang must find a way to destroy a Fire Nation drill that's attempting to penetrate the city of Bah Sing Seh...

    9.6
Aang, Sokka, and Katara board the drill that is attempting to penetrate the walls of Bah Sing Seh. Katara freezes a man to get a map of the drill, and together, she and Aang use waterbending to destroy the inner structure. They are caught by Ty Lee and Mai, so they run to the sludge pipe and escape that way. Ty Lee chases after them, but Mai stays behind. Katara and Toph use their bending to plug up the drill while Aang goes to the top to deliver the final blow to the drill. Azula catches him and they fight. While Azula is coming back to her senses, Aang delivers the final blow and destroys the drill before Bah Sing Seh is captured.
  • Almost perfect.

    9.9
The Drill is a fantastic episode full of loads of action and other things. Azula VS Aang is always a good match. The only bad things about it is that Zuko wasn't involved as much as other episodes, and the animation wasn't too good. Other than that, fantastic episode. My favorite part is when Aang ran down the wall of Ba Sing Se and made Azula go flying. The whole fight was good. The episode would have been better if Suki was in it. I was surprised and shocked at the end of this episode. I give this episode an almost perfect, 9.9.
  • The fate of the Earth Kingdom rests on the shoulders of Aang and Team Avatar as the Fire Nation once again attacks Ba Sing Se.

    9.6
This episode can be described in one word: action! This episode is part two of a two episode special, The Journey to Ba Sing Se. Whilst the first episode, The Serpent's Pass, is more of an exposition into the characters and their relationships, this episode is about repelling the Fire Nation's attack. This episode contains one of the most exciting one-on-one fight sequences of the entire Book Two. The fight between Aang and Azula on top of the drill is beautifully choreographed and drawn. We also see the continued evolution of Team Avatar's problem solving skills and their continued development as a team. There is also a continuation of the interaction between Zuko and Jet from the previous episode. An exciting episode filled with action, this is one of my favorites from Book Two.

Having made it to the outer wall of Ba Sing Se, the kids confront a Fire Nation army that is driving a massive Fire Nation drill, which poses an imminent threat to the last Earth Kingdom stronghold. Meanwhile Zuko and Iroh make crucial mistakes which begin to attract Jet's suspicions. Can Zuko and Iroh keep their cover? Iroh had heated his tea when he though no one was looking and jet got extremely supsicios. Will Aang manage to save Ba Sing Se from the Fire Nation drill? i hate that i read the spoilers early though...i would have enjoyed it more if i hadnt.
  • another great installment

    9.8
The episode begins with Fire Nation tanks moving towards the wall with the drill close behind. Several segments of the drill then extend out making the drill even larger. Steam comes out of pipes and spikes lodge into the ground around the drill. The command module then rises up into the sky attached to the drill like an antenna. Inside the command module is Mai, Ty Lee, Azula, War Minister Qin, and several fire nation soldiers operating the drill. War Minister Ching is bragging about the drill and how it will defeat Ba Sing Se. He says, "Nothing can stop us." Ty Lee then questions whether the earthbenders in the drill's way will stop it. Ching then replies, "The drill's metal shell is impervious to any earthbending attack." and hits the periscope Ty Lee was looking through. Azula doubts Ching and sends Mai and Ty Lee to take out the earthbenders. Mai sighs, "Finally, something to do." Then we see the family Toph, Katara, and Sokka are leading to Ba Sing Se with their new born baby: Hope. Aang flies down on his glider with Momo and lands in front of them. Katara asks what he's doing there. Aang answers Katara and then Toph and Aang are earthbending everyone up the wall. Sokka asks, "Now, what's so big that Appa has to wait?" Aang says, "That." The drill is shown briefly and then everyone is on top of the wall looking down at it with horror. The mother says that they're finally there and that no one is safe. Earthbender soldiers then ask what they are doing there. Aang says that he is the Avatar and asks them to take him to their leader. The general says that their help is not needed and goes on about how the wall is impenetrable. Toph says that the Dragon of the West(Iroh) got in and the general responds saying that he was quickly removed. He makes a joke about the meaning of the word Ba Sing Se. Toph says that there is still the drill. The general says he has sent out a team of Earthbenders called the Tera Team. Sokka comments on the name being catchy. "The Terra Team" knocks one of the Fire Nation tanks into the air and out of their way. They bend earth spike-like columns to the drill from the ground. The drill extends again and the columns crumble. They all create earth shields protecting them from Mai's daggers. Ty Lee and Mai slide down the drill's side. Ty Lee swings off a rope onto the ground. She deftly takes out all the earthbenders in seconds. Ty Lee is standing over all the defeated benders. The general sees their defeat and exclaims, "We're doomed!" Sokka slaps him and tells him to get a hold of himself. The general apologizes. Toph asks him if he wants their help again. He turns to Aang and says," Yes, please." Katara, Toph, and Aang all look at Sokka for a plan. Iroh and Zuko are at the underground ferries. The ticket lady says their names and looks at them suspiciously. Iroh corrects her on the pronunciation of their names and she gets mad and asks him if he's telling her how to do her job. Then Iroh compliments her and says she's pretty. She likes it and compliments him back. The ticket lady stamps their tickets and welcomes them to Ba Sing Se. Zuko snatches his ticket out of Iroh's hand and says,"I'm gonna forget I saw that." Jet and Smellerbee talk about Lee(Zuko) joining the new Freedom Fighters. Smellerbee doesn't like the idea. Katara is using her healing powers on one of the Earthbenders that was attacked by Mai and Ty Lee. The general asks her what is wrong with him. She tells him that the earthbenders chi is blocked. Katara asks the earthbender who injured him and from the description Katara knows that it's Ty Lee. She is talking about Ty Lee and says "it's like she takes you down from the inside." Sokka face lights up and he waves his arms in excitement. Sokka says,"What you just said that's how we're gonna to take down the drill. The same way Ty Lee took down all these big earthbenders. Toph chimes in by saying,"By hitting its pressure points!" Aang summarizes what was just said. Toph earthbends a creating an enormous dust cloud for them to use as cover. Toph tells them to stay close. They all run into the cloud. Ty Lee sees the dust cloud through the periscope and says that it's poofy. Azula looks at War Minister Ching and he reassures her that it's nothing. Everyone is running in the dust and Toph creates a tunnel and tells everyone to get in. Sokka says how it's a dark and Toph sarcastically says,"Oh no, what a nightmare." Sokka apologizes for being so thoughtless. They all come out of the tunnel and are under the drill. Sokka sees an open hatch and Aang helps them all get into the drill. He tells Toph to get on and she explains that she wouldn't be able to see and that she'll help from the outside. Toph wedges a huge rock against the drill to slow it down. Sokka says that he needs some schematics of the drill and Aang asks where they're going to get it. Sokka swings his machete taking off a wheel to a pipe. Steam starts to rush out of it. At first Aang and Katara don't get why he broke that but Sokka explains and they understand. A firebender engineer walks out of the mist and turns around. Katara freezes all of the steam and the engineer too. Sokka takes a schematic from the engineer and the gang run up some stairs. Sokka examines the schematic and explains that they need to cut through the braces that hold together the inner mechanism and the outer shell. Iroh and Zuko are sitting on a bench. Jet comes over and sits next to Zuko. Jet asks Zuko if he has any plans once in the city. A tea cart comes by and Iroh asks for some Jasmine. Iroh spits it out disgusted and complains that it's cold. Jet asks Zuko if he could talk to him. Zuko heavily sighs. Jet tries to convince Zuko to join the Freedom Fighters but Zuko declines. Jet sees Iroh drinking hot tea and then Jet is sure that he's a firebender. Zuko knocks the tea out of Iroh's hand and scolds Iroh for firebending his tea in public. Iroh says,"I know I'm not supposed to cry over spilled tea, but it's just so sad." Sokka, Katara, and Aang arrive to the braces. Sokka comments on the size of the braces. Aang and Katara slowly slice away at the brace. After half way through one brace both Aang and Katara are exhausted. Sokka tries to cheer them on and almost gets water whipped by Katara. They cut through one brace and they are both beat. Aang and Katara both don't know if they can make it in time. Suddenly, there is a loud rumbling and the entire drill shakes. They think that they finished the drill but then War Minister Ching comes over the announcement system and explains that they have made contact with the wall. Sokka is uselessly pushing as hard as he can against the brace Katara and Aang cut through. Katara says that this is bad. Sokka then says how they're putting everything they have into cutting down the braces. Aang then explains that they don't need to cut all the way through the braces just enough and then he'll give the final blow. Aang reminds them that everyone in Ba Sing Se is depending on them. Toph is still slowing down the drill painstakingly. Aang and Katara are still cutting away at the braces. Earthbenders on the wall are throwing tons of boulders at the drill but to no avail. A soldier informs the war minister that the engineer was ambushed, and another tells him that a brace was cut clean through. Azula says,"Let's go ladies." Aang and Katara are still cutting through the braces. Sokka is in the middle of cheering them on when a blue fire ball comes down. He dodges and screams. Ty Lee exclaims,"Wow, Azula you were right it is the Avatar... and friends." Sokka waves and says,"Hey." Katara pulled him away. Ty Lee dove towards Aang and he airbended her away. They split up and Katara gives her water sack to Aang. Mai and Ty Lee follow Katara and Sokka. Azula follows Aang and says that the Avatar is hers. Sokka and Katara come to a hatch that reads: "slurry pipeline". Katara asks what it means and Sokka says that it's their way out. They jump down into the muddy water and get carried away. Ty Lee and Mai look down into the pipe. Ty Lee tries to get Mai to go with her but Mai persistently refuses. Ty Lee shrugs and jumps in. Mai closes the hatch after her. Aang speeds past numerous engineers and control rooms with Momo on his back. He goes up a ladder to deliver the final blow. Katara and Sokka end up outside of the drill covered in wall sludge with Ty Lee close behind. Katara bends the water in the mud creating a plug with Ty Lee in it. Sokka tells her to keep it up so that when Aang delivers the final blow it'll be ready to pop. Aang picks a spot on the top of the drill to deliver the final blow to. Suddenly, several boulders fall from the sky. One of the boulders nearly hits Aang. Aang tries to tell the general to stop shooting rocks and then right after the general says,"Soldiers, whatever you do, don't stop shooting rocks down there!" Aang uses the water to weaken the spot where he is going to deliver the final blow. Katara is still holding back the slurry to build up pressure. Sokka is cheering her on and she finally gets fed up and pushes him down with slurry. Toph asks if they need any help and Katara asks her to help plug up the drain. Toph earthbends the earth causing the pipes to be about to burst. Aang is still working on weakening the spot and stops to say,"What I'd give to be metal bender." Momo shrieks and they turn around to see a blue fire blast shooting towards them. Aang dodges it. Aang sends Momo away for his fight with Azula. Azula shoots several balls of fire at him. Aang dodges them and shoots an airbending blast back. He uses his water whip to knock Azula's blasts off target. She kicks two fierce blasts and Aang tries to block them with water but it evaporates while he is knocked back. Several boulders start falling again and Aang takes the opportunity to shoot one at Azula. She ducks in time and shoots a fire ball. Aang creates a wall of rubble and shoots rocks from the wall at Azula. She kicks them away and almost gets Aang's head with a kick of flames. Azula somersaults in the air and does a really powerful fire blast destroying his wall. Aang hurtled into the wall and falls unconscious on to the ground. The drill extends again and Azula walks over to Aang to deliver the final blow. Azula picks Aang up and holds him against the wall. She forms a blue flame in her hand while Aang is coming to. He quickly makes an earth glove and blocks her attack which knocks her several feet back. Slurry spews from the wall which causes them to lose their balance and crash into each other. They both begin sliding off the drill. Azula is able to stop herself and Momo helps Aang back on his feet. Aang thanks Momo and runs to the weakened spot. A rock falls right next to him. Aang shapes it into a nail and goes high up on the wall on an air scooter. He races down the wall and successfully gives the final blow just missing getting hit by a fire ball. Toph makes an island blocking them from the flood of slurry. Iroh and Zuko are on a train with Hope's family heading into Ba Sing Se. Sokka still tries to give the team a name but gets no one's approval.
  • Upon arriving at the outer wall of Ba Sing Se, Aang finds something horrible built by the Fire Nation.

An epic episode of war and battle, "The Drill" is a great episode. I liked everything basically about this episode expect for maybe Sokka's annoying cheer for Katara when they get out of the drill. That's it. Everything else was well done, fun and brillant to watch. I really enjoy the characters of Ty Lee of Mai. They're such polar opposites but they work together and it's makes me feel good that their personalities are so different from Azula, nothing is too alike or repeative, as it should be in a group of characters. The ending is fabulous and you find yourself also wanting to get into Ba Sing Se.
  • People say this was a filler. Maybe so, but a freaking amazing one.

Everything in this episode was just amazing. It was well thought out and had reason behind everything. It had one of the best most suspensefull action sequenses of any of the episodes that i have seen so far. Throughout the entire thing I couldn' look away. It was really cool when Sokka found out how they could take down the drill from the inside it was very logical and realistic the way they planned it out. Then when Aang went to "deliver the final blow" after they had weakend the braces. He fought with Azula. That fight was in my opinion the best fight that has happened in the show so far. I really liked how he is beginning to use all of the three elements that he has learned so far to fight with, instead of his usual airbending. When Aang uses his air scooter to travel up the side of the wall and shoves the peg he had made out of the rock into the drill, thus causing it to collapse. I think that was by far one of the most impressive scenes in the entire show. It shoots goosebumps up my back every time I see it. This episode reminded me why I love Avatar and just how great it really it. This episode really showed us what the Avatar creators can do and I know that they have even more amazing things in store for us in the future.
  • The Gaang defends the walls of Ba Sing Se from a giant drill created by the Fire Nation, with the objective of breaking through.

    8.7
A very nice episode with plenty of action, plot, etc. and all the other things that make a good episode. To start off the action was stunning and the whole episode looked visually very well done. The fight on the drill was awesome because Aang is using earth bending for the first time in combat. Also it was nice to see that Azula knows some gymnastics skills or shes just flexible as she was able to kick the rocks away. The plot moved nicely since after the fight they were on their way to the city of Ba Sing Se. There is some shipping(note: I'm not a shipper) for those that support Sokka and Ty Lee. The dialogue was not so bad either and Sokka is officially established as the brains for the Gaang. Overall a good episode from Avatar.
  • A fire nation drill was about to drill through the thick wall of Ba Sing Se, Aang ang the gang had to give up the oppotunity of finding Appa and fight the drill.

    9.8
Just when Aang was in full hope that he would find his bison in Ba Sing Se, he discovered a giant drill near the outwall of Ba Sing Se. Clearly, Azula and the fire nation war minister was taking on another move in trying to take the control of Ba Sing Se.
After the Earth Kindom soldiers failed to resist the drill, Sokka came up with a plan to hit the drill's pressure point and take it down from inside. After much hard work, the gang was able to cut the pillars in the drill through waterbending after they've been discovered by Azula and her gang. A fight was inevitably broke out, eventually Aang was able to defeat Azula by some mean and destroy the drill when it was on the half way through in penetrating the wall of Ba Sing Se.

As Aang reaches Ba Sing Se he notices a drill approaching the city. He then goes and see if the city needs any help. A group of elite earth benders go an try to stop it but have no luck because Azula and her friends are protecting the drill. Sokka than come up with a plan to destroy it from the inside out. Aang and Katara weaken the drill and than Aang delivers the finally blow and destroys it saving Ba Sing Se. Elsewhere Zuko and Uncle get into Ba Sing Se but Jet realizes that they are fire benders. This is a good episode because it shows that no place is safe and Aang is willing to do anything to help those who are still free from the Fire Nation.

This is my favorite episode from Book 2. The sheer magnitude of the drill that was designed by the mechanist is amazing. However, waterbending cound't have been able to cut through all the metal braces before the drill could get through the wall of the city. Otherwise, it was a force to be reckoned with. All of the characters showed their traditional personalities that make the show so fun. Toph would not go near the metal, because she didn't know that she could metal bend yet. Sokka was allways trying to be the one to make the plan, and Katara was allways yelling at him. Azula was calmly watching over the scene from the control tower, while Tye Lee was anxiosly sitting there. Mai looked completely bored and when told that earthbenders were approaching, took the fight as "Something to do". All in all, this was a really great episode, and I hope more are like it.
  • Drill that could take the city down

    9.9
In this episode of the avatar the last airbender, aang and the gang must stop a drill from taking down the wall that protects the city of ba sing sa. it starts out when the drill is going through the wall. aang, sokka, and katara go inside to try and stop it. toph was outside stopping it with the earth. she was outside because she couldn't see inside the drill because it was made of metal. the get the drill to weaken. aang fights princess azual and wins the battle. the drill is stopped and the city of ba sing sa is protected. Overall, this is a very exciting episode.
  • Aang discovers a secret Fire Nation invention heading straight for Ba Sing Se and must stop it before it destroys the great wall that protects the city from invasion.

    8.4
Aang warns the commander of Ba Sing Se's Outer Wall, General Sung about the Fire Nation drill headed straight for his city, but the general claims that Aang's help will not be needed; informing Aang that he's sent a group of elite Earthbenders, called the Terra Team, to stop the drill. Mai and Ty Lee, however, quickly disposes of them, striking their pressure points to paralyze them and shooting them with shuriken.

Now realizing the vulnerability of his position, Sung begs for Aang's help. Aang needs to figure out a way to stop the drill, and immediately looks to Sokka for ideas.

Meanwhile, Zuko and Iroh have to get past another clerk, in order to get inside the city, which Iroh accomplishes with a little buttering up. Jet, in the meantime, is looking to recruit Zuko into the Freedom Fighters.

Later, Katara is checking out the injuries received by the Terra Team. After one of the paralyzed Earthbenders tells them that a girl blocked his chi channels and cartwheeled away, Katara recognized her quickly as Ty Lee. Katara's words about how Ty Lee fights gives Sokka an idea to infiltrate the machine and destroy it from the inside, by hitting its pressure points. Toph creates a dust cloud, giving them some cover, then bends them a tunnel to get under the machine. Aang, Katara, Momo and Sokka get inside, but Toph refuses, preferring to try to slow the drill from the outside.

Inside, the gang manages to steal the schematics from an engineer, and figures out an idea to cut through the supports holding the machine together.

Back in the city, Iroh buys a cup of tea from a vendor, only to find out that it's cold. Jet tries to talk Zuko into joining him, but the prince naturally refuses. Zuko turns back to Iroh and find that he used Firebending to heat up his tea. Zuko chastises his uncle for possibly blowing their cover and knocks the tea out of his hand, but it's too late, as Jet has also seen the steam rising from his cup, and starts to suspect the pair as Firebenders.

Inside the Drill, Aang and Katara use Waterbending to saw through a massive support beam, with Sokka "cheering" them on. They cut through the beam with much effort, but it's not enough. Unfortunately, the Drill has just reached the wall. Aang, remembering some of Toph's teaching, comes upon a better idea. Instead of trying to cut completely through a few beams, they only cut partially through many of them. Aang is then to deliver the final blow from above, to bring the entire machine down.

Unfortunately, their previous actions are discovered, and Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee quickly dispatch themselves to take care of them, and the group splits up to escape. Azula goes after Aang and Momo, sending Ty Lee and Mai after the other two. Sokka and Katara escape through a slurry pipeline, a pipe containing rock, sand and water from the drill. Mai refuses to jump into the "Wall-sludge juice," but Ty Lee quickly goes after them.

Katara and Sokka are carried out through the rear of the drill, Ty Lee following soon after. Katara, however, quickly Waterbends the slurry and Ty Lee right back up the pipe, keeping her from attacking them. Aang starts trying to cut a weak point to strike, but is hampered by the panicked efforts of General Sung, who is ordering his troops to continually drop boulders on the drill, to no effect.

At the rear of the drill, Sokka is still cheering his sister on as she Waterbends. Toph shows up, offering some help. As the mud is partially Earth, she lends her abilities to Katara's shoving the slurry (and Ty Lee) all the way back up the pipes.

Topside, Aang is confronted by Azula, who wastes no time in engaging him, even through a rain of falling boulders. Aang fights her off with both water and Earthbending, but gets knocked out by a fire blast just as the Drill breaches the Outer Wall. Azula pins Aang against the wall to finish him off, but Aang recovers, creating a stone hand around his arm to push her away. Before they can begin round two, however, the slurry, backed up by Katara and Toph, overflows the drill, sending a wave of mud over them both. Azula looses her footing and goes slipping into Aang, slamming them both against the wall. They go sliding off opposite sides, Momo helping Aang recover and get himself back up to the top. Using a rock "helpfully" dropped by Sung's men, Aang shapes it into a wedge, placing it right on top of the weak spot. He then runs at full speed up the wall, ultilizing the air scooter, going as high as he can before dropping back down onto the spike of rock. Azula, in a last attempt, shoots a blast of fire towards Aang but misses as he pounds into the shaped rock. The resulting shockwave blows Azula off of the drill, and dislodges many of the machine's weakened supports. The strain of the impact, as well as the pressure of the slurry, is too much for the drill, which collapses into a muddy pile of scrap.

Back at the city dock, Jet makes the realization that Zuko and Iroh are Firebenders, and seeks to confront them on a subway train, the same one Ying and Tahn are also riding on.
  • Aang arrives at the outer wall of Ba Sing Se to destroy the drill, and defeat Azula.

    9.5
Another great installment, this episode was aired along with the serpents pass, and was titled "Secret of the Fire Nation".

There was a good amount of action in this episode, as Aang and team join forces to stop the drill. As Katara, Sokka, And toph battle ty lee and mai, aang battles azula. meanwhile, jet figures out that zuko and iroh are firebenders. Jet is obsessed with revealing this to ba sing se. Aang uses air, water, and even earthbending to face azula. As Azula and aang prepare for a final confrontation, the drill comes to a complete stop, at long last, the drill has been destroyed. Azula has failed.
  • Great eppy!

    9.9
I don't know how this show is getting better and better, but it does. This episode was very exciting. Aang is getting more confident in his powers and it is showing in his fighting. This episode you get to see more of his earth bending skills come to play. I love Momo, especially how he helps the gang. the fight between Azula and aang was awsome, i just wish that Toph had a bigger role in this epyy. we also see a tiny bit of ty- lokka this episode. Sokka annoys katara even more ( while trying to think up a wierd nick name for the gaang) ty lee attacks katara, but katara uses her waterbending skills to hol dher off, this was a great eppy!

  • Exactly what I wanted.

  • This is probably my favorite episode of Avatar.

    10
I was a late fan of Avatar. I bought the first DVD when it came out and that was the first time I'd ever seen it. I may have seen the second and third DVDs at the point this "movie" special came out so I was really a Sokka and Suki fan because I have yet to see the Princess Yue Epiosdes (though I totally love that pairing as well). So this episode suited me well. I recorded it and watched it over and over again. It was definitely better than The Library and The Desert "movie" special. I was glued to the TV non stop, it was so action packed. Definitely an awesome episode.
  • I am loving Aang's fighting/bending ability.

I don't know how this show is getting better and better, but it does. My whole family enjoys this show. This episode was very exciting. Aang is getting more confident in his powers and it is showing in his fighting. This episode you get to see more of his earth bending skills come to play. I love Momo, especially how he helps the gang. I hope to see Zuko and Iroh join 'Team Avatar', because Aang needs to learn fire bending, and who better to learn from then Uncle Iroh? I can't wait till next week when they reach the city to see if they will meet together and to see if they get Apu back.
  • Talk about a major evasion!!! This episode reminds me of the Germany invasion!!!

    10
This episode is counted as one of the best shows out of the Avatar Series!! As Germany developed and tried to take over neighboring countries, the fire nation emulates that same premise. The invention of the Drill for this episode was a great idea, which is similiar to the German ingenuity during World War 1. During WW1 you had the Central Powers: Austria-Hungary, the German Empire, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire which were defeated by the Allied Powers: France, Russia, the British Empire, and later, Italy and the US. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Suki, and etc are the Allied Forces destined to meet the Central Powers: Azula, Mae, Ty Li, and the whole fire nation! Zuko is the only wildcard in this equation. He's still confused about his emotions and is unsure of himself so he goes back to his old pattern of trying to capture the Avatar. Even now, he's in more turmoil due to the fact that the only person that ever truly loved him, besides his mother, was Uncle Iroh. The same uncle that he betrayed in the last episode of the Avatar. Uncle Iroh is the rock or foundation for Prince Zuko, but he doesn't realize it yet. I hope that he does in the near future. I think that his mother will comback to see him and answer alot of questions about her leaving him as a child, thus completing the circle. Then a new Zuko will emerge.

  • One of personal favorites.

This episode starts out with Aang telling the rest of the gaang about a giant drill he saw while looking for Appa. We learn it is a Fire Nation Drill set to destroy the wall of Ba Sing Se and let the Fire Nation enter and claim Ba Sing Se. They talk to the General there and tell him that they can help stop the drill. He refuses and says his "Terra Team" can handle it. The very next moment his Terra Team fail and they retrieve the men. Katara talks to one of them and he tells her one of the girls that defeated him blocked his chi. She knows it was Ty Lee and gets a little nervous just thinking about not being able to bend. Toph, Sokka, Katara, and Aang set out to stop the drill. Toph gives them some cover and gets them inside. Toph refuses to go in though because its made of metal and shes a blind earthbender. Sokka, Aang and Katara go in and find some pipes. Sokka breaks one, telling Katara and Aang that when something is broken, someone comes to fix it. Sure enough, someone comes with a map of the drill and Katara then freezes the guy and takes the map. Sokka says the drill is made up of metal columns that hold it up, so they decide to go and destroy the columns. Katara and Aang use water to slice the columns, but they still seem to stand. Aang tells them that Toph has been teaching him that you should never give 100% into one thing. He says that they should weaken more columns and then Aang will deliver the final blow above the drill to stop it and destroy the columns. They start damaging more columns until Azula, Mai and Ty Lee show up. The gaang runs and the three girls follow. Aang goes one way and Katara and Sokka go another way. Azula tells Ty Lee and Mai to go after Sokka and Katara and she will handle the Avatar. Katara and Sokka come to a dead end, only with a pipe line full of slurry, a mixture of earth and water. Ty Lee follows them in but Mai doesn't want to jump in the mess and get dirty so she waits there. Meanwhile, Aang gets above the drill and starts hammering away at it with water, all until Azula shows up. They fight and dodge some rocks being thrown down by the General's men. Katara and Sokka follow the rushing water which leads them outside the drill and Katara uses her waterbending to hold the water in the drill, with Ty Lee stuck in the current. Toph is still holding back the drill with her rock, but it is only just slowing it down. Aang takes one of the boulders thrown by the General's men and forms it into a sharp looking object and sets it in the damamged part of the drill he created. Azula tries to stop him, but he dodges all attacks until finally he is thrown off balance. Toph finds Katara in the back of the drill and helps hold the slurry steady, building up pressure in the drill. The pressure is so much that it explodes throughout the entire drill, including where Azula and Aang are. They slide around because of the slippery surface now. Azula knocks Aang down and puts him up against the wall to finish him off and just as she is about to hit him he wakes up and uses earthbending to surround his hand in earth to put out her flame. He then pushes her back and begins to climb the wall of Ba Sing Se. He goes up very far and runs down the wall, trying to deliver a final blow to the weakened point in the drill. As he gets closer to the drill, Azula fires at him, but she misses and Aang hits the drill so hard it sends a shockwave and the drill collapses and stops. toph earthbends Katara, herself and Sokka up more and Ty Lee slams into the wall they are on. Mai knows she is defeated as she looks out the window of the drill. Azula seems very upset because she was told the drill was invincible. The General thanks the gaang and they head into Ba Sing Se, hoping to finally find Appa and meet with the Earth King to tell him about the day of black sun. Very, very good episode and cleverly plotted. One of the best. It was even nominated for an award I believe. Thats all I have to say. VERY GOOD!
  • Probably one of the best ATLA episodes I've ever seen.

    10
Of course, most of the Book 2 episodes are good, but this one's special. Aang and his friends try to stop a giant fire nation drill from penetrating the walls of Ba Sing Sa. Meanwhile, Iroh and Zuko are just settling in in Ba Sing Sa. However Aang, Sokka, and Katara board the drill while Toph tries to stop it from the outside. Sokka discovers that if all the supports are damage and the goop in the pipes is clogged up, when a large hit is made, the drill will collasp. But when Aang tries to deliver the final blow, Azula shows up and tries to stop him. But in the end, Aang succeeds. However, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee manage to sneak into Ba Sing Sa.

The kids confront a Fire Nation army that is driving a massive Fire Nation drill. It posses a threat to the last Earth Kingdom stronghold. Iroh makes a mistakes which begins to attract Jet's suspicions. My favorite part of this episode was when Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka and Momo try to stop the drill of destroying the earth kingdom and when at the same time Ty Lee and Mai try to stop them. Another part of this episode that is my favorite is when Jet starts to suspect that Iroh and Zuko are fire nation. I hope you liked this episode very much.
